I'm strongly adverse to "helicopter parenting", but my wife and mother-in-law (who lives with us) are paranoid, so I frequently get overruled when trying to encourage independence in my kids. I have a difficult time not helicopter parenting. I don't know what it is but I have to remind myself to step back and let the kids explore.
