I know we have alot got upset at some point or another with this team. And i know i have some negative things that i believe are true. And with alot of topics lets see a thread with Positive words about this team. I was very glad to see that Wood came out on fire. I was really worried about him being a factor. And i loved see the young guys on the D-line. i would expect to see them alot again this weekend.

Couldn't positive thoughts have just been posted in the USF game thread?

I'm just saying. I kinda started more of a positive posting in the USF thread the other night.

Threads like this easily turn in to a joke and make the site look bad. See the posts following my first.

It just seems like that would have made more sense to post reactions to the game in the game's thread. I agree with your intent though.

You can't post positives about the last game!!! I mean every person in America has decided that ND has nothing positive about their program anymore. I mean, we just handed USF a game with turnovers, so the ND football should just stop playing.

OK, now reality. ND made a record breaking amount of mistakes, but there are MANY positives to take from this game.

OFFENSE:
- Floyd is unstoppable
- C. Wood is going to be really special
- OL can run block and protect the passer
- Eiffert is a player
- TJ Jones has some skills, despite his lack of head turning.
- Riddick has speed and moves despite his bad day at the office

DEFENSE:
- Irish Chocolate is a MAN in the middle
- Ethan Johnson was tough all day, except for brain fart personal foul
- Manti is Manti
- Calabrese looked a bit better in space
- Depth is solid
- Blanton is still a good playmaker and tackler

SPECIAL TEAMS:
- Argh!!!
- Brindza the one bright spot

turnovers can be corrected, the offense played well (over 500yds) and the defense played reasonably well(250 yds allowed).

First Game

First Game

I think the best news about last Saturday's game is that it's our first game of the season and if you are going to lose 1 game all season the best game to lose is your first.

Is there any chance we stay in the Top 25 with that loss? is there any chance we get back into the Top 25 if we beat Michigan?

My question is typically a 10-2 ND can get into a BCS bowl. With the loss to South Florida and how dismal ND played, does a 10-2 ND team go to a BCS bowl this year or will they now have to be 11-1?

I know a lot of you will jump down my throat with BCS talk given Saturday's performance but I can't sit here at the beginning of September and get geared up for and be praying for a Champs Sports Bowl. 9-3 and a Champs Sports Bowl win would still be a good season and growth in my eyes as would 8-4, too. But i can't think that way right now this early in the season.

^agree

Good topic but there's just too many threads that easily blend in with each other. Any type of imput on a game should go into the game thread...that's why it's there.

We will not be ranked if we beat Michigan. We will have to win 2 or 3 stright for them to even consider us.

They could but then there are those of us that don't feel like dealing with the meltdown and negative posters that have come out of the wood work. I thought about starting a similar thread.

Well let's see:
A). is it possible that we get a whistle for Jonas being forward-progress-stopped next game?? Yep, I bet that happens in every game from now on --- Gee, I wonder how much difference that would have made??

B). is it possible that a micro-hold [performed by every good blocking wide receiver in the nation] might not be called on a TD from now on out; I'll bet it's possible. Gee, I wonder how much difference that would have made??

C). is it possible that our defense which held USF to small yardage and one TD, and could have looked up at the scoreboard at the end of the game and seen "13" or less alongside USFs name [if the offense and special teams behaved], is for real just like they looked in last year's final games?? Yep, I bet so.

D). Is it possible that our defense will grow even more ferociously successful as the young monsters settle in and Coach Diaco smooths out a difficult rotation problem?? Yep, I bet that just might happen.

E). Is it possible that the O-Line will continue to block like men for Cierre Wood to the point, since we'll not be desperately behind, he'll roll for 150 if not 200 yards in several games?? You know that just might happen.

F). Is it possible that Ethan won't lose it again and somebody will catch punts and Ruffer will wake up?? SEEMS like there's a pretty good chance of that.

G). Is it possible that Tommy actually IS pretty good at competently running our offense and even inspiring the rest of the mob at playing hard and confidently?? My money's on the little riverboat gambler who seems somehow to overcome a mistake here and there, but get it in the endzone.

Gosh and golly. We might be pretty good afterall.

We already know how this group responds to getting "hit in the mouth" we saw it last year after the losses to Navy and Tulsa. I think they will respond the same way this year. Their play was good and the fact is that players that are normally consistent had a bad game and made some mental mistakes. Are they a bad team? Absolutely not! This group has a bright future and I'm glad to see that you guys feel the same way.

Defense looked very good, gave up only 1 TD and that came after a few boneheaded penalties that kept that drive alive.

Tommy Rees looks good, he can run the offense and put points on the board.

Cierre Wood may be the best RB we've had in some time, he's shifty. Credit the offensive line though, they too may be the best we've had in awhile. Our previous backs couldn't be that good because they were often making their first cut in their own backfield...can't make yards like that.

Floyd is the best WR in college football, I would put him up against any other WR play for play in the SEC or any other conference. I would also pit him against any DB, I think he will beat them more times than not.

I think I learned that the most important player on ND is Theo Riddick. A lot of the high expectations for this season were based around the underlying assumption that Riddick would become an electrifying player through the nation and a great compliment to Floyd. Riddick had an awful game and he needs to turn it around. i think we know what we have elsewhere on offense this year. Floyd will be Floyd, but has a history of injuries and will see double teams more and more frequently. Eifert and Jones will be capable but not game changers. Wood will be solid and we need him to stay healthy. To be perfectly honest, if Riddick lives up to his expectations then it doesn't really matter much whoever our QB may be....our offense will be very strong.
