Thank you, my friend. Sometimes my life is hard taking care of my Mom, but sometimes Notre Dame explodes into such pleasant surprises that the stress at least temporarily melts away.

Elmer and his two new giant friends are beginning to form the next great Wall of China.

We need one more "big eater" this cycle and we'll be more than happy to pay for the "Victory Crablegs".

And how about Coach Hiestand?? Another Kelly gem.

I don't think I knew of your mother being ill. I'm sorry to hear that. I had to take care of my mother when she was dying (I hope that is not the case with your mom). So I know how tough and stressful that can be. I hope nothing but the best for you your mom and your family.

Mom is nearly 96. She has congestive heart failure but a strong enough genetic background so that it is a long slow slide. She is just now becoming unable to stand up on her own. She sleeps most of the 24 hours and my "job" [spiritual duty to both her and God] is to simply sit with her for 5 to 6 hours each day. There is nothing joyful about this other than knowing that when she does not wake up one of these times, she will be with God. It is a hard card to be dealt to sit each day watching your Mom slowly die, but it simply is the absolute spiritual task God has asked, and I do it without questioning His demand. My life as an ND grad and a prof has been so privileged that He wants to see if there's anything REALLY to my soul it seems. As we say as the Fighting Irish: failure is not an option. And you guys [who I apologize for boring with this] can see why I find it a little difficult to get excited about what recruit de-commits, what Kelly does or doesn't do, what the latest "tweet" might portend.

An old lady who was/is a lifelong Notre Dame fan, and who married a Notre Dame grad at the campus Log Chapel, is about to pass to God. She would take great delight to see our next young supermen take the field and "when that Irish line goes smashing through, they sweep the foeman's ranks away": a song she still sang. I think that it's likely that she won't see this next season though, except from a seat very high up.

OMM, I'm truly sorry to hear about your mom....I just lost my Grandfather last weekend to complications from Pneumonia(sp?). He was one of the greatest men I've ever had the pleasure to have known, but he suffered greatly over the past year, and our family rejoices now that he is home with his Savior and Lord. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. Peace be with you and your family.

Thanks guys. Mom still has occasional good days. Today was blessedly one of those. We watched local TV mass, and then the Pope celebrating in Mexico [her religion is very important to her now]. I even got her interested in watching our basketball girls blasting St. Bonaventure in the NCAAs. And fed her a celebratory piece of lemon pie as an afternoon snack. It was a good day; a respite and a gift from the Lord.

Mike,

As we have discussed I was through the decline of another great lady, a year-and-a-half ago. All I can say is peace be with you. Here is one of the things that got me through:

METHA

May I be filled with loving kindness;
May I be healthy and strong;
May I be free of all dangers, internal or external.
May I be filled with the ease of well being.
May I be happy!

It was a prayer I used, and then after I took care of myself, I substitued Mom, or anyone elses name in I thought could use it. Hope you get a chance to use it. And I hope things resolve peacfully for you and your mom.

All my admiration,

Bogs.

Sorry Old Man Mike to hear that. Will say a prayer for you and your family. Hope god knows who old man mike on irish envy is :). I lost my dad in an untimely death, and always wished I could have had the chance to hug him again. Never easy anyway you go. You sound like the kind of a guy who will make the most of it for both of you.

Wow.

So now we have four beastly OL.

Bivin, Elmer, and the Micks. ;)

I'm diggin it. Trenches are getting deep gentlemen. The earth movers have met quota.

And how about Zaire? Wow. I'm in shock.

Of course if you build it, they will come. What QB in the nation wouldnt love to work behind that line?

Now we need an elite RB.

Greene, come on down.

And Elliot.

But I have to tell everyone, Trinity included, that Jaylon Smith is my número UNO target.

And Matuska, I got nothing but love for ya baby.

So I'm going to go ahead and say that the OL we have coming to ND, along with the talent we already have has already paid it's dividends in snagging a great QB this cycle; which in turn has led to another commit.

9 men, fellas (and ladies).

Halfway home?
