She's essentially put to bed the old view that you had to be a teenager to be an elite gymnast. The USA team as a whole was the oldest in average age since the 1950's and still won Gold.

was it an age cap or an age minimum that it had? I thought the Beijing olympics had controversy because people thought one of the chinese gymnasts was too young?

Maybe? I'm actually not sure, now that you mention it. Quick Google search suggests you're correct. But I could've sworn I heard them talking about a cap when discussing another country's 32 year old gymnast. Maybe I just heard wrong though.

I always assumed it was such a grueling sport for young women that they were happy to get out asap. Probably didn’t help that the US doctor was molesting them.

I remember it being an age minimum for gymnastics. 14 I believe it was.

Yes she's really old comparatively. She's 27.

I wonder if she'll try to make the team for 2028 too since it's in LA.
I hope she doesn't make the team. Nothing against her, but if USA is ripped by a 31 year old it probably isn't a good sign.

If she is a world champion like she was this year why would her age matter at all? If she’s the best in the world than we should be proud to have her.

Idk isn't that kind of like saying LeBron or Tom Brady put to bed the idea of an upper age limit in their sports? Sure, you just need to be a once in a lifetime type athlete. Same with Simone.

It’s a good come back by the US. Winning the men’s 100m which is surely the number 1 event at any / every Olympics is a big deal.

Watching Amit Elor truck everybody in wrestling has been pretty impressive. Took out the #1 seed and World Champion in the first round. Look forward to the gold medal match today.

Let's go Yared! Incredible finish to get the Bronze. Yared was a freshman in my dorm my junior year, and we had a series of phyiscal and mental challenges for people to compete in (like speed eating a can of spam, super smash bros, that sort of stuff), and our last event was the "South Quad Sprint", running from the Rock to the flag pole on South Quad outside of Alumni. Unknown to all of us coordinating the event, Yared was a future Olympian and current member of the track team, and he won by about 20 seconds

The lady from India that our 50kg wrestler was going against in the gold medal match, missed weight. Now Cuba (who India beat in the semis) takes her place against Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger native, btw).
