The fact we hired Harry Hiestand back in the day and he failed.....then we hired him back only to fail even harder!

This was one of their idiotic moves the football program has made in many years.

What's the definition of insanity? Notre Dame football!! 🤣🤣🤣

Since 2nd half against Cal, the OL has been one of the best units in the country. Really it was just the Marshall game where they were horrific as OSU has proven to have a stout front 7.

Prister says they expect Coogan and Schrauth to be Kristofic’s main competition, assuming he stays at ND, at this point looking ahead to next year

I'd love to see BFish move to guard for a year and for Tosh Baker to play RT. I thought Baker would be a stud when he signed... hate to see him potentially transfer.

Alt has one more year most probably... so maybe Fisher is OK with playing LG for a year and then slotting in at LT his senior year.

If the goal is to get your 5 best on the field, I wonder if Tosh would be a better Tackle than whoever the 2nd guard prospect would be.

So does that mean we're essentially looking at Coogan, Schrauth and/or Kristofic as our starting guards next year?

Strange, not just because Spindler seems to not even be in the discussion, but neither is Carmody. He seems to be right up there in the guard discussion.

For whatever it's worth, I found it interesting to note who Harry put in there on the second team when he took the opportunity to get the Big Dogs out. That second line was:
LT=Tosh Baker; LG=Andrew Kristovic; C=Ashton Craig; RG=Rocco Spindler; RT=Michael Carmody.

Of most enlightenment to me was Craig, who I'd forgotten, and who I also had forgotten that he was offered as a Center.

And, given my usual sunny outlook for OLine, that Five looks awfully good to me whenever it takes the field.
And what we have in the deeper pipeline is pretty stunning. Harry needs to stay here and die in OLine Paradise.

We lose Patterson and Lugg.

Is the feeling that next year’s OLine will be down a notch

The interior will take a step back. Kristofic is a signficant step down from Patterson and you're replacing 2+ years of starting experience at RG as well. However, Kristofic has 9 career starts under his belt and has proven to be at least a servicable starter. Could be less of a decline than expected.

Probably, but you have Correll back, and while Lugg has been serviceable, I do think we can stand to upgrade talent wise there.

Then there's Fisher and Alt, who should be among the top OL in the nation next year. Alt already is, but Fisher has continued to get better and better by the week.

Several bits of commentary above that I severely disagree with, but who the he!l cares?

My view for next year is that we lose TWO NFL draftees at guard, BUT people keep forgetting that players get better.
Alt, Correll, and Fisher will get better with one more year. That alone is a big deal. I believe that Kristovic is on the same track.
What we then need is a power monster to fill RG. I'm going to assume that anyone named Rocco is that kind of guy.

That ought to be a VERY good unit. Plus look at all the other choices that Harry has to develop. My view of our OLine "house" (it's hardly just a "room") is that we probably have THREE OLines there that 90% of the nation would kill for.

We may not see as many runs up the middle next year, but with the others returning and another year of Harry I don't see why they can't be dominant. Expect some communications issues at first with the new guys, but I'm hoping they start out faster than they did this year.

Ran it like 4 times. A shame his next gig is likely HC, would been great in SB. Grimes then you can get a true QB Coach since he coaches OL or TEs? Nasty.

Not bad by Hiestand to improve from 47th last season to 17th this year. Michigan makes sense being that they've been pretty dominant. Also, Oregon State's OLine coach needs a raise after being #1 last season and 5th this season! Pretty remarkable stuff by them up there given their recruiting limitations. Also, pretty crazy to see 3 traditionally good OLine schools in Stanford, Iowa and BC being terrible up front this season

Out of curiosity, how do they rate these? Interesting that 6 of the top 8 are in the PAC12. I wonder what conclusion could be gleaned from that.

Notre Dame and The SEC are blocking better Defensive Tackles than most of the PAC-12 are.

Logic says: parts of the ratings must involve sacks, hurries and tackles for loss.
Other stuff could be involved, like penalties especially drive stoppers; yards per carry.
One has trouble thinking of other major criteria (Busting the Dining Hall budget?)

They weren’t great today for 80% of the game, but they were awesome for the 20% that really mattered.

Yea not sure how you can say the line wasnt great for 80% of the game. They dominated the entire 2nd half which is 50% of the game right there, and we move the ball Ok in the first half. They had a couple pass pro issues early but figured it out, and opened some really nice running lanes. They also sealed really well when we went to the perimeter.

I thought they were dominant for most of the fourth quarter. I didn’t really think they were dominant run blocking for the first three quarters. I did not think they did well in pass protection today. That was my assessment.
