Same w/ ISD. They said BK sounds Iike Coan still “gives them the best chance to win”. Pyne must suck in practice. They seemed equally as frustrated that they were going back to Baker/Carmondy instead of Alt at LT.

Baker for one series, Carmody for one series, then Alt. Unless I'm blind he's the only one of the three who has been passable

It is sad sad times right now. Coan’s experience threw and int inside the 10 yard line at home on a terrible decision. Then continued to make bad decisions.

I absolutely love watching Notre Dame football but it’s starting to get hard to watch because of the continued bad decision from the coaching staff.

After starting coan last game, i no longer really trust this offensive staff; period. Oline, no more words needed, coan starting vs bearcats, qb rotations at dumbest times. Coans face in games looks like E Golson when he lost it. If BK cant see the diff energy when pyne is in, i chalking this up to another L.

Not Tommy's fault that Phil didn't have the chest to play at ND. Depth would have been fine if Phil didn't transfer, but it is what it is. I'm not worried about the QBs though, we can win with any of these three guys, and if Clark was healthy prior to the season there are some that vouch for his skill too. All three have been prepared, although Buckner is limited to his package. The root of the problem still lies with the OL. Without them coming together we've got no run game and our QBs don't have time to throw consistently.

If you put that up against any top 10 schools QBs over the last 4 years how does it go?
I am going to say bad.

I am pretty sure that the recent decision to recruit 2 for next year is an admission that he has not done well.
His assessments/projections are not good.

I remember watching video of Coan playing for Wisconsin. I thought, “he’s no Ian Book, but he’s mobile and can at least move the chains & evade the rush”. Then he gets to ND and is about as mobile as I am at 50 years of age. We know the OL is a turnstile vs defenses but we also agree that Coan did himself no favors when he stepped up into the pocket and could be blamed for some of his own sacks.

I wonder if that has to do w/ never fully recovering from his foot injury? Again, the OL still doesn’t provide enough protection but Coan looks like he’s stuck in cement on most plays.

Sorry, that made me laugh.

All I know is that even if our OL was great this year Coan (or Pyne) would not be a playoff winning QB. In fact, he would probably be the worst quarterback to start a playoff game. That’s the problem, our best option is mediocre at best. In year 5 of Rees coaching the position.

No. I simply said there are at least 10 programs that have recruited QB better than Rees since he has been recruiting. I am going after Rees. He is a bad recruiter.

You can't force a kid to come to your school, so if the stars aren't landing they're not landing. That said, stars aren't everything...you can't trust everything the scout sites say. Book played above his 3 star rating, but how many 4 and 5 stars fail to pan out? Not everyone is Trevor Lawrence, and even getting a true 5 star kid to land at your school is a challenge even if he does live up to the hype.

We've recruited well enough at the position, Buckner and Pyne are both talented. It's up to the coaches to develop the players and they have to respond in turn. Kids that want the easy way out and decide to blame others can kick rocks along with Phil. Phil leaving is why we looked to bring Coan in, if he's here there's plenty of depth and experience with the offense.

The Allar quote is pretty questionable imo. Like I get we love his film and all, but Buchner was a higher rated recruit on the composite and he absolutely lit it up when he was in Allar’s shoes. I don’t think you can fairly criticize Rees’ recruiting while overlooking his biggest achievement.

They just lost to Stanford and damn near lost to Fresno State. All they do is talk shit about their QB situation.

Where we're at doesn't feel right. I get it. But to think we're the only program struggling with QBs is weird, and TB might just be awesome.


Clemson has another 5 star and you see how far its getting them right now. Our O line is crazy right now. If it was just slightly above average we'd likely be nearly a top 5 team. But alas...

I literally thought the exact same thing. He won't be as elusive as Book, but you won't be able to drop 8 on third down. boy was I wrong.

Unfortuantely, imo, we cant continue to roll with Coan with current limitations of the OL. I thought towards the end of Purdue he was starting to realize he needed to roll out a bit but he just doesnt have the comfort level there for whatever reason. I certainly think well have our own limitations with Pyne but his ability to pick up some gimmee yards and extend plays is just what the OL/Offense needs.

Sure but the same thing can be said about Coan. In both cases the veteran we brought in isn’t very good but are still the best option, per the coaches.

Interesting stats from "The Athletic". Irish O-line does better against the blitz than against a basic rush. Hokies blitz more on 1st and 10 than 3rd and long. Tend to go with a 3 man rush on 3rd and long.

Oddly, that doesn’t mean teams have done that by all-out blitzing. Despite its offensive line issues, Notre Dame has been good against the blitz, allowing pressure on 31 percent of dropbacks when defenses have sent five or more pass rushers, which ranks 24th nationally.

The Hokies, whose 3.25 sacks per game rank 14th nationally, haven’t sent the house all too often, blitzing on just 29.7 percent of dropbacks this season (54th in the FBS).

If Coan starts, I just hope Rees' play calling is better than last weekend. He has got to figure that out. WRs better start catching the ball too. Their drops at the absolute worst moments are killing this offense just as the bad QB play, bad OL play, and bad play calling have been.
