If Phil were good enough they’d play him,... he’s not, they were just talking about during the BG game how they almost moved on from him in spring. This idea of the savior on the bench is just a bind hope

He can't be worse than Book. He may not be better, but he cannot be worse.

Chip Long’s worst game, by far, and that is saying something because we’ve had some clunkers in terms of play calling.

Ian Book needs to be benched. He’s getting good pass pro from the OL, but bailing out anyway... but this is NOT the time to put Phil in. Bad conditions, and scUM dominating against the run. Takes away Phil’s best two traits.

I do hope they see this film tomorrow and realize that Ian’s issues are holding the team back far too much, at this point, and at least come up with a plan to transition to Phil starting next week.

Maybe in normal circumstances he isn't as good, but with these conditions and how they are defending us, he is probably better at beating the defense than Book. Especially if we are just playing him for this scenario, we can run him more than if he were QB1 which provides another dimension Book doesn't have right now.

I'm shocked you guys are spending this much time talking about the QB. We could have Joe fucking Montana back there and he's not doing shit with this playcalling and OL in a downpour.

play calling has sucked more than execution. and execution sucks.

we are getting beat in the trenches on both sides. not always, but more than we are winning by far. 20 yards rushing and a 1.3 average, when Book has 5 of the 20 says enough.

It seems like on that blocked punt 45 did not know the rule. I mean there are about 3 or 4 things to know on punt coverage, there arent that many things to do. That's bad coaching.

Although the offense is absolute garbage. Let’s not forget that the defense did in fact get gashed and he blew a blocked punt.

Call me crazy but the end of the half reminded me that Patterson is still their QB and if we get our shit straight we can make a run in the 2nd half. We are not this bad.

Lea will get the defense straight. Scoring is over for meechicken. Going to be up to the offense. Three possessions out right now and the Irish are going to score 28 this half.....

I think its execution more than playcalling. Playcalling is hamstrung by the QB. Book isn't seeing open receivers, even Kelly admitted as much during halftime interview. Book also isn't seeing the options handoffs correctly. Hes done nothing positive in this game except fall on a fumble and throw a couple 50/50s to Claypool.

What did he say?

Basically they are getting their ass kicked, they are not executing on offense and there are open receivers they are missing. First an foremost stop the run.

You can tell he is going to dig into them at halftime.

Sorry, just logged in and maybe I missed a rule change. Are we allowed to throw to a TE over the middle?

Wish we took Cam McCrone.

Just try Phil even if it is tuck it and run or go deep. Two plays like novacaine

It’s performances like this that really highlight the question, “what kind of offense do the Irish run?”

It’s a hodgepodge of plays with little deception, less power, and jump balls galore.

I’m calling it now...this game will end up the same as the game at Michigan State in 2006.

Has ND ever come out after half under Kelly in a game like this and not laid down and got blown out?

That would be awesome. Of course it would be nice if we had a Brady Quinn and Jeff Samardzija playing tonight.

Bit or a knee jerk reaction from me. I think we gotta open up the competition in the offseason.

I’m sitting here drinking Grumpy Pils & trying to figure out if it’s QB recruiting or QB development, when it comes to Kelly but there is a major positional problem there.

Book has to win this game and Don Brown knew that before it started. And that’s why we’re down 17.

I’d like to watch the Georgia game again and see how his entire performance went..

I don’t know.. the whole team looks uninspired.

It’s not a quick-hitting, speed offense, though some play calls make it seem that way. It’s not a run-heavy, grind-it-out Iowa type offense either.... except against bad competition. It’s certainly not an air-raid offense either.

It’s a hodgepodge of plays with little deception and jump balls galore.

I've been thinking about this for a while.

Is Chip Long just an offensive version of BVG?

It seems like we try so many different offensive designs to win, but by doing that we can't execute any one of them particularly well. Combine that with just trying to be too smart for his own good when figuring out how to attack teams (trying to get the edge versus speedy LBs here and UGA 2017; BVG using a 3-3 against Texas).

Its like they try so hard to be great, that against not terrible teams they aren't even good.
