Agree to disagree on this one... the break between the WF postponement hurt the OL in fluidity... today there was more efficiency on the O'Line.... albeit the Pitt D-Line is top 5, I still see some improvement and T will start getting better lanes and looks... The Irish still have two solid games before the 'big game' to get prepared.

I hope so. But I'm gonna guess BK agrees with me given how he split carries, and also the AVG.

I know.... I hope he starts to disagree with you before BC!!

:starwars:

Believe me, I don't want to be right necessarily. I'd love Tyree to be able to take big boy carries. I do think he can be a serious threat in space though right now.

This is going to rub some of the anti- running game/coaching haters but...

The Irish ran for 115 yards against the No#1 rushing defense in the FBS.

Something overlooked about this game, the Irish had possession for 40 minutes......

That coincides with good clock management and being able to get the 2 or 3 yards on third down at critical points of the game....

Think about that for just one minute..... the Irish offense had possession for 40 minutes.

IDK. Book was 40 of those, and close to another 40 came in garbage time from CBo when the game was out of reach and D had given up. Our two primary backs were 20 for 35 and 1.75 AVG. And I'll guess Book's happy feet moved the chains a few times.

Man. Did we watch the same game? I thought Book did a much better job of hanging in the pocket and looking/waiting for things to develop downfield today. Sure, he escaped the pocket a few times, but only when he didn’t have a chance to get something down the field. You could legitimately see him making an effort with his eyes down the field as opposed to on the rush. Book made quite a few down field completions while stretching the play out laterally with his elusiveness.

We used the running game to open some things up in the passing game...something we’ve been begging for weeks. We were never going to go for 150+ on the ground against this defense. They scheme to stop the run and they’re a great run defense. Kudos to Tommy and BK today for playing to the weakness of the opponent.

The running yards came when they mattered... big plus compared to last games

Possession time kept the offensive off the field - huge improvement

Go back and look at the first three pages of the game-day posts.... everyone was worried about the game... I wasn't - no where near it.

Again, Pitt has a great D'Line.

Also - double check the 'garbage time' yards... Pitt still had most of their starting D'Line in.

Glad we won, D was awesome, Pitt QB was horrible.
Seemed Book misses quite a few open passes.
RBs got the tough 2-3 yards when needed to keep drives going.
5-0, will take it. Should be no problem with GT.
Need WRs to get it together quick, gonna need 'em.
How long will Lenzy be out?

and our horrible QB, 300+ and 3 TDs

True he did have those stats but you missed the 16 for 30 part and 100 of this yards were on two throws that he got lucky completing. I just don’t remember Book being this in accurate in the past.

When running against a stout D like Pitts we learned that C’Bo is the right guy for 3-5 yards. Not Tyree or Jafar for sure. Jahmir would have run well and straight ahead today but sadly he has moved on. Book made plays but so did some of his WRs. They are dropping like flies so give some others a shot.

I will say book isn’t gettin much help from his WRs, they can’t seem to separate.

I really enjoyed the game today, but that said, It did take 50 carries to get those 115yds.

With that scenario.... a team can be beat you 21 - 0 on 7 field goals......

I'm not trying to start an argument - in any way.... I'm just thrilled to see Book play at a B+ average compared to the last 4 games and the run game, O'line, and Offensive performance have possession 40 minutes of the game and the D play 'lights out'.

This is what everyone on IE has been waiting for and got - but still find fault.... I get there is always room for improvement and true - the Irish need to really improve more over the next two games before Clemson and today, the Irish proved that improvement is happening.....

BTW..... when the announcements this morning of those that weren't starting or didn't make the trip it was 'Woe is Me' and 'This is going to be close'......

The Irish bucked up and took control of this game

And it took Miami 42 carries to get 109 yards against them, Miami is struggling right now against Virginia and has looked very underwhelming so far. But they should Finish top 4 in the ACC.

ND has its best win of the season and really instilled some confidence. Take care of GTech next week and bring on the game of the year against Clemson.

How is Pitt's secondary supposed to be? I remember Paris Ford, Damar Hamlin and Jason Pinnock from the recruiting process, and I thought I remembered seeing Ford/Hamlin get some hype as a safety duo. Can't say I've watched them before today besides the end of the Lousiville game and I wasn't really paying attention to them on either occasion.

Because Clemson will likely stifle our rushing attack similarly to how Pitt did today. Hopefully we can still come through with clutch conversions on the ground like we did today, even if we don't rack up the yards. But, if today was just a case of facing a weak Pitt secondary, we might really struggle against Clemson's DBs once we are forced into passing downs (newsflash).

Book wasn't great, he was actually quite frustrating again, but he wasn't a disaster this time. Wouldn't give him the B+ Diz did but B-/C+ for sure, which is a step up for him this season. If Pitt's secondary is a strength, that is a real step in the right direction.

Yep. We just have to think anything can happen against Clemson. At the same time if we win every other game it is still another very good season.

Great win today. It's good to dominate someone on the road.
I also enjoyed watching Indiana beat Penn State. What a crazy game.

This Pittsburgh team has one of the worst offensive lines ever.

Hamlin and Ford are one of the best if not the best safety combo in the country. Pitts corners are ok not great. Clemson has better corners and are deep at corner, but Pitt has them beat at the safety spots.

Losing both Austin and Lenzy hurts significantly. This already was one of the least explosive ND offenses in recent memory with them both. Clemson on Nov 6 isn't really a possiblity anymore. Keep it in perspective and realize it still can be a very good season if you can beat Ga Tech, BC, UNC, Syracuse, and Wake Forest. Heck, if you do that and Miami loses again this season then you make the ACC championship which would be the more important game to try and win anyways.

Who are our most explosive weapons on offense for speed now? Teams like Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson would have guys step up seamlessly into that role when given the opportunity. Any chance we have someone who could?

Austin had one catch in the year. Do we know how long Lenzy will be out for? Either way neither has made an impact on the year.

Today both Skowronek and Mayer had the best receiving games so far this season. Hopefully these two stay involved in the passing game going forward. Skowronek had two decent seasons as a #2 receiver on a good NW team before last year when he had a respectable QB throwing him the ball. If he can get back to that form that would really help us on the outside which our biggest need right now. If one receiver can step up it would really help open this offense up.

Of the guys that have a chance to get in I would say Avery Davis has the most speed.

Wasn’t able to watch yesterday but reading here it sounds like an absolutely disastrous 45-3 victory.
