Really surprised Absher didn't get a shot during the week after Otting's struggles. It's not like this is a one week absence for Craig. If Otting goes down for some reason during the season we're down to a true Freshman and no one else.
ah id say Absher starts at C if Otting were to go down. They'd work it out

I feel like Hughes has been the best DT the last couple weeks, Dawson is supposed to be great against the run as well.
Hold on......you're our resident DL guru. What do you mean "is supposed to be". Don't you know?

Why can’t we have anything nice? And elbow injury that will keep him out sounds like this will be something to monitor the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, he's not wrong that. A sucker move, sure, but they hold the cards. And I can see the point now that the Big Ten is way tougher than it had been.

With that said, if they don't want to play us, make Clemson, FSU, and Miami play us every year or jump to the Big Ten.

Wrong, start something with UCLA or ASU or even BYU or Utah

Disagree with that. The only reason this game matters more to us than them this year is that we already have two losses. (Although I'm not convinced they get in for sure at 10-2 with a loss to ND, either.) It's like saying we "needed" to beat Purdue more than they "needed" to beat us. Well sure, because in this season, right now, we have more to lose with another loss.

In a typical year, this game doesn't matter (for playoff positioning) much more than any other game. An 11-1 or 10-2 ND team with a loss to USC is not in a very different position than an 11-1 or 10-2 team with a win over USC. USC being in a conference doesn't give them any special advantage, other than getting an auto-bid if they win the conference.

That's to say, there's a reason they are the ones trying to bail on playing us. When USC joined the Big Ten, they knew most Big Ten schools aren't in LA-type climates, right? And that to get from LA to most Big Ten schools you have to sit on a plane for five hours? If they want to bail because they don't like having to travel to the Midwest another time, fine. It's a shame given the history of the game, but it obviously takes two to tango.

I don't think either of ND or USC really needs each other in any significant way. I'm certain we will be able to still schedule well.

It certainly would take away one of the pillars that we've historically used when talking about why we shouldn't join a conference...... to protect our rivalry games.
