Is that the same as your ass pounding underwear?
My tongue in cheek response about "big boy underwear" was meant to try to get a rise out of Cack. LOL

P.S. Please don't ask me anything about what I mean by "cheek" or "rise" as I don't want to get banned.

Isn't that because ND only plays the most prominent teams in the Big Ten, and effectively a random sample of the ACC? I don't think ND/Rutgers or ND/Maryland would be that much better rated than ND/Wake Forest or ND/GT.
Not all 14 (now 16) teams have high ratings, but let me give you an example….

Last season, Purdue @ Iowa was the third most watched game of the week the week the game was played. There is interest in the B1G games even when a matchup isn’t sexy.

If you look at the weekly ratings, the B1G and SEC games dominate which is why they make more than the other conferences. ND has highly rated games too.

Something else I’ve been thinking about….

The B1G has yet to announce its next media rights deal, even though the players were announced last week: FOX, NBC, CBS, Apple.

Why hasn’t the B1G officially announced its next contract? Do you think there is a push to add more schools now that ND is supposedly remaining independent for now?

Until the PAC 12/10 signs a new media rights agreement/grant of rights, those teams are ripe for the picking if the B1G wants them. I know none of them add to the $$ pot athletically, but academically the B1G brass have to be salivating over adding a Stanford or Cal to the conference.

I think more expansion is coming. They will not leave USC and UCLA on that much of an island.

If ND is going to stay independent, really need to uncover what this means for ND night games. Doesn’t give away anything really here

So is my understanding right that a $1B/year essentially comes to $62/Million a team if they continue to have 16 teams? Whereas ND's potential NBC deal is in the ball park of $60MM/year + $12MM/year from the ACC deal?

Numbers look about right.
ND somewhere around $71M

The Athletic story seems to indicate that NBC will have the primetime slot for the B1G. Not sounding good from a night game perspective.

The contract includes an escalator clause, meaning the deal could approach nearly $10 billion if the Big Ten’s membership increases, network sources said. Even after adding USC and UCLA, the Big Ten “is not done” expanding, sources told Action Network.

Last month, Action Network reported the Big Ten would expand beyond 16 schools and was targeting Notre Dame, along with Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Cal from the Pac-12. Those plans have not changed, sources said this week.

Regardless of whether Notre Dame joins the Big Ten or remains independent, the league still wants to add more Pac-12 schools to help reduce potential travel concerns for USC and UCLA, sources said.

Are those number official? I thought Swarbrick said they were looking to get $75 million/year?
He isnt going to be far off from that. LL broke it down yesterday.
The broadcasting rights include,
around 60-65 mill for NBC broadcasting rights.
roughly 12 Mill from the ACC for playing those 5 games
and then NBC will be paying ND a few million for the USC game as well as restoring historic rivalries in the big ten (purdue, UofM and MSU) those three will be on some sort of a rotation.

Thats going to get him really close to around 75 million for all the broadcasting rights. Jack is a baller when everyone was saying he couldnt do it outside of a conference

75 million per team. No where near the 100 mark. This contract was a surprise at how low it came in. The ACC should feel safe.
I believe the $100 million a year was for full rights, this only covers a part of the income (it excludes things like bowl game tie ins, postseason money, and media shares from any school's road OOC games).

Also, USC and UCLA aren't going to be in the conference for the front part of the deal so it's not clear what the numbers look like when the B16G is up and running.

A few points with the B1G numbers:

- This is a seven year deal. The first year will have lower payouts for two reasons: 1. USC and UCLA do not join until the second year of this contract. They only account for six of the seven years of the agreement. 2. CBS will not broadcast as many B1G games in the first year as they are committed to airing SEC games in the last year of that contract. CBS has full B1G coverage beginning in the second year of the contract.

- These figures do not include revenue from the CFP, bowl games or basketball tournament credits. I imagine the B1G will need to add at least one more bowl game to its roster before things change with expanded playoffs.

- I wonder what happened with Apple purchasing a digital package? All CBS games will also air on Paramount+. All NBC games will also air on Peacock, plus Peacock will air additional games.

- This deal could expand from under $8 billion to $10 million in value depending on the B1G expanding further. All signs seem to be pointing to additional expansion.

- Assuming additional PAC 12/10 schools are added, Stanford, Cal, Washington and Oregon are the most likely targets. Do they add all four? If they only add two, which two should they be?

- Do you think Texas and OU look at this deal and try and pull a fast one on the SEC and join the B1G before ever stepping foot in the SEC?

I can't remember where I read it, but about a month ago it was reported that the B1G wasn't interested in Oregon and UW. Cal hadn't been brought up. Stanford was the only PAC12 school mentioned.

I don’t believe the media rights contract includes revenue sharing from BTN either. BTN will now be on basic cable in California starting in 2024.
