In the PC today, Kelly voiced his preference for Field Turf to replace the grass. He believes it will help the pace of the players. It's not up to him, but this will be his input.

And opposing teams too.. So there is really no advantage to field turf versus home grown.

I don't want Notre Dame to change anything, leave the tradition alone. If he thinks he can't win games just because the field isn't turf then why did he want to come to Notre Dame? It does not make any difference if it's turf or grass. He sounds like a Ty Willingham when Ty suggested Notre Dame to schedule 9 home games every season. I remember he said that when Kevin White decided to set up a 7-4-1 schedule back in 2002 or 2003. Ty thought 9 home games would benefit Notre Dame to win games just like Kelly wanted to have turf on the field so he can win games. I am not buying it.

I don't think it was an excuse. I think it's a preference. They practice on field turf.

Tradition = Notre Dame Band, Irish Guard, Stadium walk, Gold helmets, Music Selection

Tradition does not = what kind of field we have. It still looks like grass.

Put a damn jumbotron up opposite of Touchdown Jesus. Put some loudspeakers up to pump in some music. Did anyone else see Va Tech run out last night? Jesus.

I agree with the colored field, endzones, and lines. And we need our name in the endzones. I say Notre Dame green field, Notre Dame gold lines, Notre Dame blue endzones with 'NOTRE DAME' in them in white. That would be sweet and incorperate all the colors we use for the team.

Yeah, I've never heard of natural grass being mentioned when people talk about Notre Dame and it's tradition.

I actually like the real grass but the turf would have some advantages in bad weather. never have to cut it. But the grass in shorter this year then it noramlly is.

Gold field turf.
Jumbotron.
Sound system.
And as the players run out of the tunnel to mid-field, they all do the Dougie for 30 seconds.

Haha - that will pull the RKGs for sure:)

Agree with you on the field turf but definitely not the loudspeakers. Pumping in music while your opponent tries to plan their final drive just seems cheap: that's a job for the fans and the band.

Rudy slept in the stadium, the groundskeeper let Rudy into the stadium, the groundskeeper was responsible for, get ready for this, mowing the lawn... therefore GRASS=RUDY=NOTRE DAME TRADITION.

Boom. Did I just go all Glen Beck on you or what.

You got it!

As far as traditions go at Notre Dame, the natural grass traditon is waaaaaay down on the list. It's really not that important.

As for as those who say both teams have to play on it, I say, Notre Dame is usually more athletic and speedy than most teams they play. It's not some magic formula to get the team to win, but it's a tiny advantage in my opinion, especially when the team already practices on it.

I absolutely HATE that there is still a HUGE opposition to making this change. It seems a lot of you here on IE are in favor, but I don't think it is very popular across ND Nation.

Tradition holding Notre Dame back? Here's a small reason.

This grass over turf isn't holding this team back they only time it would really help is in bad weather. Now that they cut it shorter it is a non issue.

I dont think grass to terf would break tradition. Yes its change but isn't that what we need in some ways? Im not saying this would solve our losing ways but give the coach the changes he wants. BK is not an idiot and he understands that tradition at ND is the most important piece of recruiting outside academics.

I'm sick and tired of watching a home football game and watch the crowd react as if they are watching a croquet match at a picnic. It's a huge downside to our home football game atmosphere. Watch Oregons crowd or watch South Carolina's home crowd against Tennessee. Did any of you watch the VA Tech game last night? The crowd in Blacksburg was fired up from start to finish. How many times have you seen the camera turn to the crowd at ND after a touchdown? Hardly ever because they dont want to get shots of people telling other people to stop yelling and sit down.

I understand that I've gone off topic and terf/grass will not make the difference in our crowd, but we need some change. If it's something as little as terf/grass, let it go and stop with the cries of tradition. Changing what the players play football on does not change or downplay tradition
