Notre Dame's Pro Day is tomorrow March 31st and I figured we could start a thread to talk about any news that comes out of it. Something of interest for me is that out of the 11 prospects that will be in attendance, 6 didn't play on last years team.

I love the idea of inviting NFL vets to college pro days. The NFL should try to convince more schools to do it. It would enhance their efforts (e.g. Veteran Combine) to give "vets" a 2nd chance.

I also love that Welch, Hendrix, Golic, Daniels and Moore were welcomed, and came, back for ND's Pro Day.

I too think that was a cool idea. Especially in a year where there wasn't a lot of star power. It will be interesting if we see that happen in future years where we'll have more early round talent coming out.

I don't say this as a knock on Davaris. I just remember that during the 2013 season there were some that said Davaris was an early round pick that year regardless of his lack of production simply do to his potential with comparisons being made to Deandre Hopkins and how Davaris was the better player. Doesn't look like that potential will be getting him drafted as high as originally thought.

I think thats completely fair to say. Thats where he should be picked but there was a poster specifically that I recall claiming that if Deandre Hopkins was a 1st rd. pick so should Daniels. Regardless of production etc. Things change quickly.

4.57!? Wow, not bad big man. Also, Kendall was listed as 251 this past season. Dropped almost 15 pounds. Not much game tape for scouts, but has definitely earned himself a mini-camp invite.

Bench press: 24 repetitions (225 pounds).
40-yard dash: 4.57 seconds.
Vertical jump: 32.5 inches.

2.5 semesters could be 30 credits. 12, 12, 6. 2 semesters at 15 credits. He had 1 year left of eligibility. Seems about right considering he missed summer (half a semester) as well. not sure what going to another school would have had to do with it other than they would have never suspended him.

Eleven former players are attending Notre Dame’s Pro Day on Tuesday.


Left tackle Ronnie Stanley decided to return to Notre Dame after watching the 2015 national championship game.
Ronnie Stanley nearly added his name to the mix in January. But two days before the Jan. 15 deadline underclassmen had to declare for the 2015 NFL draft, he announced his decision to return to school through a Notre Dame press release.

The decision tore at Stanley in the two weeks following Notre Dame’s Music City Bowl win. He was re-recruited by head coach Brian Kelly flew to Stanley’s home in Las Vegas, Nev., with athletic director Jack Swarbrick among others and met with the left tackle. It was a more formal process than what he went through in high school and slightly awkward.

He wasn’t oblivious to the noise either.

Constant chatter about underclassmen declared for the NFL draft on television, articles online and questions from friends and teammates swarmed Stanley during those two weeks.

And the money talked too. The possibility of earning seven figures dangled under his nose. Notre Dame’s left tackle received a second-round draft grade from the league’s advisory committee, putting him in the mix for a lucrative financial deal.

“It was really difficult, especially playing in college where you don’t get paid really,” Stanley said. “So it was definitely a difficult decision actually seeing how much you could make in a year or for two or whatever.

“I was torn at a point where I just didn’t know where I wanted to go at that point in time and I thought I did at a point, and I had second thoughts about it.

“So it was just an ongoing process of me looking at myself in the mirror and asking what I really wanted to do.”

He looked to his mother and father for advice. He spoke to family members, former Notre Dame players in the NFL and teammate Sheldon Day, who announced his intention to return a few days before Stanley.

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Zack Martin reached out to Stanley as the deadline grew closer. It was the rookie Pro Bowler’s position along Notre Dame’s offensive line that Stanley took over last fall. Martin played a role in the final decision, but he never tried to force Stanley one way or the other.

“Honestly, he didn’t really want to give me a choice or he didn’t want to take what he wanted me to do,” Stanley said. “He wanted me to choose what I wanted to do, but he just gave me his information of what it was like and his perspective, pretty much.”

There was no epiphany. Stanley’s decision to return didn’t strike him in one single moment. But it’s no coincidence he announced his decision to return to school the afternoon following Ohio State’s win over Oregon in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

“I would say the most influential point was probably watching the national championship game,” Stanley said, “and really being kind of jealous of not being able to be at that top stage or where I want to be.”

Stanley returns with center Nick Martin as the veterans of Notre Dame’s offensive line with 50 starts between the pair. A 6-0 start before collapsing in the second-half of the season gave Stanley a glimpse of what the Irish could be.

With 18 of Notre Dame’s regular starters returning, he wants to take another shot at his goal.

“Last year we had the same amount of talent,” he said. “And you can go back in the film and watch the games because those things were lost by inches, and we just knew we could fix that…we knew we could do a lot better and we didn’t want to mess up this next year.

“One slip-up can cost you a whole game, and we realized that last year throughout the whole season. We expect to be perfect this season and that’s what we’re shooting for.”

For Notre Dame, Pro Day proved to be an exercise in both what was and what wasn’t.
Eleven former Irish football players worked out, a group that spanned three different recruiting classes and four different colleges. Seemingly half the current roster watched, along with a handful of former Notre Dame players, including Super Bowl champion Darius Fleming.
Exiled defensive end Ishaq Williams also watched the workout, as did early enrollee Jerry Tillery. Mike Denbrock, Brian VanGorder, Keith Gilmore, Autry Denson, Scott Booker, Todd Lyght, Harry Hiestand and Mike Sanford all attended.
At least a dozen different NFL franchises hit South Bend to watch DaVaris Daniels, Ben Koyack, Cam McDaniel, Kyle Brindza, Jake Golic, Ethan Johnson, Cody Riggs, Kendall Moore, Justin Utupo, Andrew Hendrix and Alex Welch. The group represents perhaps Notre Dame’s weakest draft class of the Brian Kelly era.
The Irish have had first-round picks in each of the past three drafts, with the low point under Kelly coming in 2011 when second-round pick Kyle Rudolph was the solo selection.
Considering Daniels’ struggle at the NFL Combine when he ran a 4.62 following his season-long suspension, another tight end might be Notre Dame’s first pick this draft. According to Notre Dame, Koyack posted a 4.72 in the 40-yard dash, which would have ranked third among all tight ends at the NFL Combine.
“I’m just trying to show them my name should be called sooner, not later,” Koyack said. “Trying to cement myself as a guy they see as versatile, see as someone they could put into any situation.”
Koyack and the other skill position players caught passes from Hendrix, with the tight end grabbing every ball thrown his way during that period. Daniels dropped a couple passes from Hendrix, who misfired on a couple more. McDaniel entered the event wanting to show he’s more than a short-yardage back. He had just nine catches all last season and didn’t drop any of the attempts Hendrix put on target.
“I just want to show how versatile I am, and if (slot receiver) is a place where somebody sees me, I think that that's a role that I could fulfill,” McDaniel said. “I just wanted to start catching as many balls as possible, make it natural again. I mean at Notre Dame I didn't catch nearly as many balls as I would've liked to probably out of the slot.”
McDaniel will return to California following Pro Day to be with his wife, Stephani, who is expecting the couple’s first child, a daughter, imminently.
Brindza attempted field goals outside while the rest of his former teammates drilled inside the Loftus Center. He converted 10-of-12 field goal attempts after posting 21 reps on the bench and a 31-inch vertical jump.
The disappointment of Pro Day was Riggs, who needed the event to build a resume after not earning an NFL Combine invite. He tweaked his right hamstring on his second 40-yard dash attempt and did not work out in the individual agility or position drills. Riggs declined to speak to reporters afterward.
Daniels and Moore did meet with the media for the first time on campus since last fall’s academic misconduct investigation that ultimately ended their Notre Dame careers. Daniels said he could have returned next season and suggested he’d like to graduate from Notre Dame eventually but is still two-and-a-half semesters away.
Both players accepted some blame for their part in last season’s investigation that also sidelined Williams, Keivarae Russell and Eilar Hardy, who was also present at Pro Day.
“I think through the process there was mistakes made on both sides, but I think with Notre Dame being my alma mater and the school being so academically tough that you know what you signed up for when you got here,” Moore said. “Academically, we all knew.”
Daniels, who posted a 39½ inch vertical jump at Pro Day, admitted it was odd to be back on campus working out. He thanked Brian Kelly and the football program for allowing him to return in an attempt to redo his NFL Combine performance. He deflected questions about whether Notre Dame treated him fairly through the investigation.
“I think that they did what … Notre Dame should do or would do in that situation,” Daniels said. “Whether or not we were treated fairly doesn’t matter. It’s over. It’s in the past, and that’s what it is.”

I want to say I don't believe that 4.57.....but he did lose a lot of weight and the 40 times don't seem to be too juiced for other guys.....
