Did ND reach out here? The article is VIP

They did reach out. He held an offer out of high school. He's a true freshman so he would meet the criteria to actually be a viable transfer, and he also visited ND at least once....

But with that said, he was committed to 3 different schools, I'd be surprised if he ends up outside of the SEC.

I thought the transfer portal doesn't open until December. Do they make an exception for schools that fire their coaches?

KSU fans generally seem disappointed but love Howard and would cheer for him at ND. Having Avery Johnson in the wings takes some of the sting away for them.

I don't think there's a better option out there really other than maybe Ward. I doubt Pratt portals. Leonard is a different tier IMO.
Why would he come here after seeing what Hartman did or didn’t do?

Money. I don’t see him as an NFL QB. The marketing that was done around Hartman is a major selling point for any QB. I regularly see ads from Google and Dove featuring Hartman. He’s got his UA and Beats deal. The starting QB at ND should be an easy sell.

Freeman’s point on why he needs a 4th QB is spot on. You have to assume a transfer/injury and not get caught with your pants down. Hope they bring in the best guy they can find and let Minchey/Angeli compete… may the best man win.

The only this the guarantees is that you will have a transfer. In this era it is very unlikely to have 4 scholarship QB’s.

But since he wants to keep Parker none of this matters. Just cheer for them and hope for the best. 🤷‍♂️

Challenge everything! Right? I mean, unless it's the OC...

If we’re only going to have three QBs regardless, I wouldn’t mind having one who has played a meaningful snap at this level, TBH.

Exactly. You take the transfer like Howard. Howard is a solid QB, which should be the basement for what is needed to start at quarterback for Notre Dame. Then you tell Minchey, Angeli, and Carr to show you they can be better. And if one of them beats out Howard then it's doubly positive because a) it likely means they're good and b) you know you have Howard as your solid backup plan if they falter. If you go into spring with Carr, Minchey, and Angeli, it's possible whoever wins the job is just less bad than the other options (see Bama this year) and you have no fallback plan. In this day and age of cfb, you absolutely cannot have too many competent QBs on your roster.

In a vacuum, I am not opposed to a transfer QB next year. That said, I really want to avoid getting into a "Transfer Starting QB Every Year" death spiral.

It isn't ideal, but it may be the future of college football...just look at your top 3 Heisman candidates:

Jayden Daniels (ASU to LSU)
Bo Nix (Auburn to Oregon)
Michael Penix Jr. (Indiana to Washington)

I can name countless others (Ewers - Ohio State to Texas; Williams - Oklahoma to USC). It's just a sign of the times.

Alright so it's official. How far are we from having an idea of the direction this needs to go? Trying to figure out how long Sam's recruitment took

ND was the pick for Hartman before he even entered the portal. IIRC, it was the morning of Wake's bowl game where various CFB insiders were saying he was ND bound.
