Not sounding the alarm just yet, but should we be worried about another WR meltdown for '26 recruiting? I know some of the recent targets choosing elsewhere in the last few days were WRs ND didn't have great traction with, and that's fine but then who else is Mike Brown targeting other than the two mentioned here (Kaydon Finley and Brayden Robinson)? Does MB have a plan and process that includes solid backfills with WR recruiting losses? Full disclosure, I'm not following WR recruiting in detail but I have seen the recent WR recruiting losses and trend aways (Mosley), and am worried about our WR recruiting abilities for '26 and beyond at this point. The Notre Dame wide receiver recruiting blunders continue, and it’s getting dangerously close to having a much deeper conversation
Might be a hot take -- I'm pretty confident you'll see strong WR commits once we demonstrate there's a QB who can throw it. Most blue chip WRs don't want to go to a team that is going to generate >500 yds receiving

Is that gonna happen this year when your best player is Love?

It would seem that if it were to play out like that, it would have to be a scenario where awesome 2025 passing success leads to some top portal WRs joining ND for a year or two until the WR recruiting can catch up to our passing greatness.

Mike Brown might be a good WR coach, but it’s hard to argue that he has any clue what he’s doing as a recruiter. And I’d argue recruiting is the most important as a WR coach.

If CJ throws for 3200 yards this season we will be fine. WRs need proof on the field and the last few years Notre Dame has not had a good passing offense for WRs
Do we count the yards to the QB if they are on target but not caught?

It's on the staff to sell it. It's something you have to do every time you talk to said recruit. This way it's burned into their memory. They would have to show film of dropped passes over and over, saying here's the potential and this is why we need you.

End of day, you are recruiting these kids to PLAY football. Naturally they want their role to be impactful because that's how you get drafted. 1000 yd receiver is more likely to go higher in the draft than a 415 yd receiver. There's obviously more to it than just stats but that's the gist.

ND 1k yd receivers since 2010:

Claypool 18 and 19
Fuller 14 and 15
TJ Jones 13
Floyd 10 and 11

Chances of us having a 1,000 yard receive in 2025 is slim. I just don't see it when the main focus will be the running game again.

Having a good run game should open up huge passing plays
Still need a QB to throw it and a WR to catch it.. we need JG to take a huge leap. Our "blue chip" WR in the room didn't sniff the field last year and by all accounts so far won't see it this year.. We're not reloading at this position, we're barely able to tread water

Funny moment on yesterday's II podcast. As O'Malley was reading a question from a II customer about the WR recruiting, he said they got about 36 similar recruiting questions and obviously couldn't read them all.

Prister: "Do we know that the 2025 class (not WR, the class in general) is no good? They haven't even stepped on the field yet."
O'Malley: "I think they're angry about the 2026 (WR) class."
Prister: "I understand."

Prister said he thinks the WR recruiting struggles have more to do with the lack of WR production the last few years, which I found interesting because ISD has been shouting from the rooftops that the issue is Mike Brown the recruiter.

These are ChatGPT's thoughts at the FCS level where it was more challenging to find supporting information for a proper search to build a top ten list:

Here’s a summarized top five list of the best WR coaches (or head coaches with strong WR development/recruiting impact) in FCS right now:

  • DeSean Jackson – Delaware State
  • Michael Vick – Norfolk State

  • Joe Woodley – Drake

These coaches are recognized for their ability to develop and recruit wide receiver talent within their programs.

Sounds like we need to have prolific passing to convince WRs to commit.

Getting some pretty good WRs would help produce a prolific passing attack.

To finally get those pretty good WRs, we probably need to have a prolific passing attack to convince WRs to commit.

This will require some pretty good WRs.

Which means we should get some good WRs so we can have a prolific passing attack, which will get us some good WRs, resulting in a prolific passing attack, which, ultimately, will help us get good WRs.

I'd say Greathouse if he stays 100% healthy which is a big if should be there abouts.

These aren't even accurate Wiggins is at Texas A&M and Engram last coached at Wisconsin in 2022 and it wasn't WR's

Michael Vick? He has yet to coach a game correct? Wasn’t he just hired? And yet these are coaches recognized for their ability to develop and recruit WR talent?

Here's what I got out of chatgpt. I had to talk it through some of its initial choices (Stuckey at #7). I had to force it to come up with 9 and 10.

  1. Kevin Cummings – Wide Receivers Coach, Washington
  2. Josh Crawford – Wide Receivers Coach, Georgia Tech
  3. Joe Dailey – Offensive Analyst, Kansas (Former WR Coach, Boston College)
  4. Armon Binns – Wide Receivers Coach, Northwestern (Former Notre Dame Analyst)
  5. Holmon Wiggins – Wide Receivers Coach, Texas (Former Alabama WR Coach)
  6. Bobby Blizzard – Wide Receivers Coach, Western Kentucky
  7. David Gru – Air Raid WR Coach at a Power 5 School
  8. Drew Mehringer – Offensive Coordinator & WR Coach, New Mexico (Former Texas WR Coach)
  9. Mike Furrey – Wide Receivers Coach, South Carolina (Former NFL WR & Bears WR Coach)
  10. Tim Harris Jr. – Wide Receivers Coach, Florida State (Former OC & QBs Coach, UCF)
Edit - It really struggles with carrying information forward. Here is an updated list after I asked it "what school does #7 coach for." It's fucking lazy.

  1. Kevin Cummings – Wide Receivers Coach, Washington
  2. Josh Crawford – Wide Receivers Coach, Georgia Tech
  3. Joe Dailey – Offensive Analyst, Kansas (Former WR Coach, Boston College)
  4. Armon Binns – Wide Receivers Coach, Northwestern (Former Notre Dame Analyst)
  5. Holmon Wiggins – Wide Receivers Coach, Texas (Former Alabama WR Coach)
  6. Bobby Blizzard – Wide Receivers Coach, Western Kentucky
  7. David Gru – Wide Receivers Coach, SMU
  8. Drew Mehringer – Offensive Coordinator & WR Coach, New Mexico (Former Texas WR Coach)
  9. Mike Furrey – Wide Receivers Coach, South Carolina (Former NFL WR & Bears WR Coach)
  10. Tim Harris Jr. – Wide Receivers Coach, Florida State (Former OC & QBs Coach, UCF)

I feel like this hire had not the best timing, but may have been an over correction. Like stuckey problem was young and immature. Mike Brown the steady hand veteran.
