I hope you’re right, but how is ND going to overcome the, apparently, crazy amount of money USC is giving him. Isn’t that why he committed to them anyway? Because it’s the kind of money you just can’t turn down?

P.S. Drayer doesn’t know shit.
You talking Hall, or Hines?

I think we flip Hall from Stanford to ND based on my info above.

I think for HINES that if USC is any sort of a tire fire like I think they could be AND it comes to pass again that their bags fall short of promises, he could come back.

Both plausible

Yep, I completely misunderstood; confused Hall for Hines.

What about the 3 weeks off that Freeman/staff took that's been floating around here??

Your reason makes more sense, Freeman emphasized recruiting when he was hired.
The staff took vacation right after the major recruiting visits and coaches couldn't make visits.

All reports indicated that despite being on vacation, coaches were definitely still making calls to recruits. While there couldn't be any in-person contact, ND's staff was still definitely talking with recruits.

I think a lot of guys have verified that he took time off, as well as the entire staff. The optics are that since they were vacationing that they dropped the ball closing on these three guys. But, what we also know is that is was at the tail end of a contact period leading into a dead period. The kids couldn’t be on campus and coaches couldn’t visit, but they could make calls/texts…which you can obviously do from anywhere. There’s a lot of assumption and innuendo, but you can’t argue the optics are bad for Mike Brown and ostensibly Freeman, also.

If we close on two of these guys, nobody makes a sound. Close on one, there’s some frustration. But, we ended up with none, so we go defcon-1.

We’ll see how it plays out. I personally think 1/3 of those guys ends up signing with ND, Robinson being most likely and Hines being second most likely. I think Hall eventually flips. And, I think some rising senior with a good senior campaign comes on board. I think those three plus Burress complete the WR room and that Bettis ends up a S.
MacIrish- your posts are great thank you for verifying. With the dead period, posters need to realize that kids couldn't go on any campus and no coaches could visit.

I agree bad look for Freeman and Brown, I agree about going 1/3, but I'd push for 2/3. If I am ND a call would've been made to Hall- especially before his senior season starts, get him back here for the summer BBQ. With ND keeping in contact with Meadows- I'd try to get him here for a game in the fall.

Once Hines knew he was going to get more $ from USC I would've used that money to go after bigger WR on the board. With Robinson- give him the opportunity to play defense at ND and if it doesn't work switch him to WR.

Crazy Balki- thanks for the info. For any poster that thinks that ND stopped talking with recruits (texts, zoom calls) they are just looking that they went on vacation and stopped recruiting. With Bowden tweeting that it's not over, hopefully this means not just with Meadows.

Didn't USC lose one or two recruits recently because the money wasn't what was promised?

Nope. He’s getting close to being considered one of the worst hires in the last 15 years.
I think it’s okay if we look elsewhere this offseason. Not everyone deserves more than a year. Time to cut the weak link.

We need to higher a proven coach and pay him top dollar stop going after guys who are young and haven’t proven much

What happened with removing the cap on the # of on field coaches?

At the very least, they need to hire a ringer recruiter to make sure WR recruiting gets fixed going forward.

I mean I've seen assistants fired at the HS level for yelling at refs / getting 15 yard penalties... I don't agree with the pile on here, but criticism is certainly justified.

Agree it was a dumb move on his part. Calling for his head as a result ain't it, though.

I say he gets one more year. Burres is gonna be a stud and I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays a lot next year. Williams and Gilbert will need to be counted on I think both have potential to be studs. Next year WR’s looking like starters Faison, Greathouse, X is up for grabs. You’ll have KK Smith, Gilbert, Williams, Burres who I think all will be ready not sure about Saldate. I think you should bring in one guy at least. I think with our RB’s and OL we will be run heavy so you can’t expect us to have a 1,000 yard WR

Did you happen to hear what he did to get the 15 yarder?

I still think he needs to play Thomas over Collins more.
It's hard because Collins probably has the best tools/upside of any of our WRs, but it feels like his production has really fallen off as the year has gone on.

Also, we didn't really see what Brown did to draw the penalty. Guessing it involved throwing his headset on the ground over a PI penalty that was in fact called. That's not cool, obviously, but neither was the USC punter taking off his helmet and bouncing it off the turf right in front of the ref, and they didn't call that. So maybe there was more to it?

Anyway, Brown's not getting fired, but our young WRs need to develop this offseason or this time next year he very well might.
