Notre Dame Confidence picks

Thought it could be an interesting idea to do this, was curious what people think. For those that don't know how it works you assign each game 1-12 on how confident you are. 1 being the lowest and 12 the highest.

I'm not picking on you or your picks, but having MSU as the 4th most confident (easiest) game on our schedule just shows how consistently strong our schedule is.

I am actually surprised so many people have the service academies so high on their confidence scale. I never feel that good when we play any of them especially Navy.

The order of my bottom four is really a toss up.

More confident about Michigan than Navy? We're no longer in the Willingham/Weis era. We're too big and fast for the service academies, hence our win over Navy last year. They play tough, yes, but there's much tougher on our schedule.

Navy- 12. I see no reason this won't be the same as last year.

Air Force- 11. Navy with a more potent offense. I still don't see it.

Temple- 10. Huge athletic advantage. But first game weirdness plus a scrappy team can lead to big upsets.

Pittsburgh- 9. I just don't see them surprising this team again.

BYU- 8. Though Pittsburgh last year was the closer game, I thought BYU's performance against us was less "lucky" than Pitts.

MSU- 7. Seriously almost put them under BYU. Kelly owns MSU's coaching staff. He's only lost one game against them, which 1) was in his first year and 2) need a miracle trick-special teams play plus a no-call from the refs.

Purdue- 6. We always play down to them. But our team seems to enjoy shutting their stadium up so we might roll.

USC- 5. They can beat us if they come in focused. Don't think they can't.

Oklahoma- 4. We could lose this game, but they drop a few because freshman QBs are prone to making bad decisions under pressure. ND's front seven + first time on the road.

Michigan- 3. It's ND vs. Michigan. Who the hell knows what's going to happen. Literal toss a coin game.

Stanford- 2. The best football team on our schedule. Last game of the season. Their power against our power. Another coin flip.

Arizona State- 1. Trap game placement on the schedule. Weird new place to play. Todd Graham has Kelly's number. Arizona St. will be hyping this as a statement game. At least we'll look good.

Well, confidence and predictions are two different things.

I always worry about the service academies for the exact reasons you mention above. I worry the team will have an attitude of "Its's JUST Navy" and then come out flat. Yes we are too big and too fast. That is almost always the case, but they have found ways to beat us in the past. Or, at least, play us tough. They never quit either which can be problematic if you don't put them away early.

Michigan is easy to get fired up to play. Hence my reason for putting them in a more confident position that Navy and AF.

I understand this is not the Willingham/Weis era. However, my personal feelings of trepidation regarding the service academies more than predates those two coaches. This is a confidence rating, not what I think will actually be the outcome of the games.
