The nice thing is that the Caps will be shooting towards us for two periods.

That's about where I sat too for the game I went to a few weeks back. I was a little bit more towards center ice. I thought I effed up and bought the wrong tickets but then I remembered that's it's flipped and the road team shoots that way twice.

So ACAMP....same question to you about the PENS. How are you guys going to do without Malkin and Crosby? Is this question as funny? ;)

Honestly man, you know I am a Pens fan, but I think Philly is the team to beat in the East. Deepest crop of forwards in the NHL. We'll see how the goaltending holds up in the postseason though.

The east is weak. Talk about the west. That is where all the depth is at. Look at the crappiest teams in the west. They own the east. Wins against the east are the only reason the jackets are still alive. Example. Jackets are 2-1 against the Pens and Flyers this year.

I'll throw my two cents in. They need to get Crosby back, even if it is just for the postseason (assuming they can still get there) Remember last year, Philly made the playoffs on the last day of the season and made it to the Cup Finals. The loss of Malkin really hurts, but if their GM can swing a deal and get at least some of that production (he was having a down year but still a force to be reckon with) and get Crosby back, that and a renewed focus on defense (2nd in the NHL in goals against) and solid goaltending, they will have a chance to make some noise. Playoff hockey is a different beast. Tighter checking, lower scoring games, should suit them well. Their GM did a great job solidifying the blue line. But getting Crosby back and something at the trade deadline are necessary.

Philly look tough...and they bring the wood however I think the PENS will be right there. As you said it all depends on the goaltending...and I would add will Staal step up to elite status?! I think he can...its his time to shine.

I am worred about the Wings, Howard is in a slump....

Jackets lost 7-2 at home to a healthy pens team. They won tonight against essentially a minor league team. Pens leading scorer that actually played in tonights game was Pascal Dupuis. Enough said...

So is your argument that the Blue Jackets are better then then the Flyers and Pens

Don't doubt the Bruins - I'm sure KPENN doesn't want the Flyers to play them again until the conference championship....Unless they go up 3-0 in the semifinals.

Yea the Bruins are tough. Great defensive team, will serve them well in the postseason. I really think the east comes down to Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, Tampa. Philly's goaltending is a question mark, Pittsburgh has injury problems, the Caps are just a puzzle to me, I know they are trying to become more defensive but they seem to be forgetting about scoring goals. Boston, can they provide enough offense, losing Savard hurts. And Tampa's goaltending is also questionable, not sure Roloson is the answer.

But that is why it is interesting.

I think Boston and Philly are both the best teams built for the playoffs as it stands - me and KPENN were talking about it in the poker room until we were barred from talking about hockey. I wouldn't be completely afraid of any of those other teams in the playoffs. Pitt doesn't have the depth with Malkin out (and their defense is great this year but c'mon), Washington confuses the hell out of me as well, and Tampa probably doesn't have the goaltending nor the defense.

As an FYI - Boston is 6th in goals scored (savard only played in like 15 games this season) and 1st in GA. Now some of that has to do with Thomas standing on his head every freaking night, but they have a steady d. The one thing that concerns me a little bit is that the Bruins have activated their defense a bit more this year which has led to a ton of odd man rushes. Other than that, they have 3 good scoring lines, and a 4th line that is arguably the best in hockey this season.

No way. I am not that dumb. I am just saying. If you look at the Jackets overall record against the east it shows that the difference between the competition in the west and east. The east is very top heavy. The west has about 13 teams that could make the playoffs in the east. Btw going by the previous posters blowout theory then the jackets are better than philly (no way). Jackets blew them out in the early season.

Agreed, but I mentioned in another post that they need to swing a deal at the deadline to at least get some sort of production. They aren't going to get an Evgeni Malkin type player, but if they can get something, get Crosby back, with their defense and goaltending they would be contenders. Not favorites by any means.

Never made a blowout theory. Just saying you have to take that 2-1 record with a grain of salt.

That's all well and fine but you're expecting the same Crosby to come back this season. As Bruins fans know - that is not always the case. It appears his concussion was a bit more serious than anyone had in mind - he still cannot even do light workouts without getting headaches and spots. Sure, he'll probably be back but it's a big jump to believe he'll be the same player this season.

Valid points, and I understand that he may not be the same player. I was simply saying what has to happen in order for them to be contenders.

Also, just an FYI, the reports yesterday that he tried to work out yesterday and saw spots and stars proved to be false.

The Jackets are 9-2-1 against the east. Also the west only has two teams with losing records against the east. I think that shows the strength of the west.

The west overall is much better... but that means something to Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington, Tampa and Boston why?? It says what exactly about any of those teams??

I'd say nothing... the top of the east is just as good as the top of the west... transfering teams would not change win/lose records that much...

but yes, the West is a better conference overall right now.

Ok man, I will try to explain myself one more time. I never made any argument regarding the 2 conferences. Your point about only 2 teams in the west have losing records against the east is an extremely good one. All I said was your statement that the west is better because the Jackets are 2-1 against Pittsburgh and Philly doesnt tell an accurate story. That is all.

Yea, he came back for one game and early in the 2nd period against Buffalo, Tyler Myers, who is a huge guy, fell into him along the boards. Nothing dirty, and it didnt even look that bad. Malkin skated off slumped over but mostly under his own power, but they said the next day he has a torn mcl and acl, and I have heard 6 months recovery time.
