I don't know. The Devils get him at 3 primes years, at relatively cheap and avoid the big money part of his deal.

More or less I just find the timing weird. After free agency and the Devils are hurting financially and what makes it more odd is the Devils didn't even seem to care, they pretty much went "yeah ok" and let it happen. I mean, your biggest star, and best player leaves and you don't even seem to care?

My theory(I could be way way off on this), is that around the time they signed the deal(2010) the Devils were aware of his interest in the KHL, so both sides came up with the long term deal knowing it wouldn't be honored and would let him walk to get his KHL payday.

I could be wrong though, but I smell a rat here.

Makes sense, and once again brings up the interesting dilemma of Euros vs N Americans in terms of drive in the NHL.

The NHL schedule was release today after the news that NHL players will partake in the Olympic... Also the new divisions were named.

Brian Burke has a new gig. I just cannot fathom him being kind of behind-the-scenes and allowing Feaster to act like a GM, nor staying out of the media.

Maybe the strategy is to blow-up the next two seasons and have the best lottery chance for Connor McDavid in the 2015 Draft - it might be worth the gamble

I have no idea why these preseason games have a habit to turn into powder kegs.

I'm back and forth on this, John Scott should not be targeting Kessel.

Kessel should not be on the ice with John Scott.

Kessel should not be using his stick as a damn baseball bat.

The only one who was some what right in all of this was clarkson, who ironically enough saw the steepest suspension due to the mandatory suspension for leaving the bench.

Had Scott gone and went all Todd Bertuzzi on Kessel Toronto could be losing the most important player on the ice without playing a meaningful period. Not saying scott would of sidelined Kessel for months had clarkson not came to his aid but

Losing clarkson for 10 < losing Kessel for 80
