With this being $26 million guaranteed up front, that means for the Predators to match his contract he would be 17% of the entire franchises value ($161 million). Living here and knowing the Predators and their penchant for penny-pinching I will be surprised if they match this. They believe they have 3 stud defensemen in their minor leagues and getting four draft picks, possibly all first round, they may be willing to part ways.

Although it would also be a PR nightmare.

I hope you're right. I'm getting a chubby thinking about Weber in orange and black. Lol

I hope I'm right, too. I was really hoping the Flyers would somehow get Weber. He is a perfect fit in Philly.

I just had to take this opportunity to vent a little and say that Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr can both kiss my ***! **** them both!!! Next Thursday was supposed to be opening night against the Rain-juhs to see the Kings raise the championship banner. Now, we will be lucky if we have ANY season at all.

This really sucks!

Sorry. Had to vent.

Who gets screwed AGAIN? The fans. A lot of NHL "insiders" are very optimistic about the lockout ending before December, but I just have a sinking feeling they are going to s***can the whole season. Not sure why, but it is just my gut feeling.

The thing is though even if the season gets "saved" by December it is still a huge slap in the face to fans. How Gary Bettman still has a job is beyond me. 3 frickin lockouts in his tenure.

The thing that pisses me off most though is how many really good players there are in the league right now, Giroux, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Toews. Quick, Lundqvist(I know i'm leaving some out) who are all close to or in their prime and we the fans possibly could miss out on watching these guys for a year. Just pisses me off.

Add to the great players, there is great parity in the league right now too. Top to bottom the playoffs were some of the best games I have seen in a long, long time. They had a record year last year and then they pull this ****. If you run a business and you have record sales, you don't immediately close and lock your doors.

The NBC contract was really starting to roll and with a market like LA getting national recognition, who knows what would have happened.

KPENN, you said it best in your message to me a few weeks ago - "It's billionaires arguing with millionaires about how to split a pot of gold."

NHL had finally seemed to make strides from the last canned season... Last year was a good one for them by every measure I saw...

League proposed 50/50 Hockey related revenue split. I think this season will happen.

Thats not the main point of contention between the sides. The owners have always wanted a 50/50 split. They want the 50/50 revenue split to happen immediately. The players don't want to give up that much that quickly especially after what they gave up back in 2004. Add to that argument that the league had record revenue last season.

The owners should come in with a step down approach to the revenue split. Step in down one or two percent each year to soften the blow of the reduced escrow payments to the players. I think that would at least help bridge the gap between the league and the NHLPA.

The other points that the leauge is proposing is increasing the number of years before unrestricted free agency. The players have a huge issue with this. The owners also want to reduce salaries across the board. All those things combined are really hitting the players in the pocket book very quickly.

The sides are so far apart and they are both showing a reluctance to talk about the key issues to close the divide. My take is this: if significant progress isn't made by mid-November, the whole season might be in real jeopardy.

There's also no salary rollbacks either, which is huge too. The NHLPA isn't gonna accept the proposal as is, but they'll tweak it and get this thing done.

IMO the season happens and the deal gets done soon. And this is coming from a huge pessimist on this whole deal

I really hope you are right. We'll see if they can get things moving in the right direction.
