Who is a realistic, better option than Kelly?

Gruden

I think that's the question the dissenters need to answer. I haven't really seen any names thrown out in this thread as a viable candidate to replace Kelly, and I think that's because there isn't one this year. For Kelly's flaws, he's still a better coach than 95% of the possible candidates that would be willing to come to ND realistically. I would like to see some possible names, but I don't think they exist or would ever come here.

Kelly is getting another year. I'm wondering what changes (if any) he should make to turn this shit around.

ST coach has to get canned IMO. And Elliot or whoever coaches the LBs should be fired. Outside of Jaylon's spectacular athletic play from time to time, the LBs have been terrible IMO.

Wish we could get Bernie Parmalee back to coach TEs. He coached Fasano, Carlson, Rudolph, and Eifert. Not a bad group of guys there.

Kelly will be coaching. Lets now face it, with the academic suspension circus plus injuries the team is decimated, mainly the defense. Example, tell me with a straight face NOW after today we are not missing Davaris Daniels.

Team is full of great gets that are nice on and off the field. There are zero animals on this team! We need some psychos!

I also don't believe these kids are stupid with low football IQs (like Kelly leads us to believe)Most schools that have our talent seem to be just fine..

Sick and tired of losing!

I can't imagine the amount of firings, decommits, transfers etc in the next 3 months.

I'm not sure if our TEs aren't being coached up, or the offensive philosophy doesn't use them, or if Golson just doesn't look their way. Either way, it's been bad. Booker coaches both ST and TE so it wouldn't bother me if he wasn't around next year.

Golson cannot see or read the middle of the field. I think even the biggest Golson defense attorneys accept that as virtual fact. We're limited to a bubble screen/quick hitch team when he's in.

Eifert lead the team in catches and yards in 2012, so I doubt either Kelly or Golson are inherently anti TE.

Kelly should get next year, but if this team doesn't get 10 or 11 wins next season and in playoff contention...he needs to go. No more excuses next season as there seems to have been a built in excuse or two every year since he has been here. Not next year.

If that transpires I don't think we are going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel candidates and I don't think some of the draw backs are going to play as big a factor as most expect. Kelly is one of the top 5 paid coaches in college football and the university has a lot going for them in the way of facilities, etc. There will be good candidates interested should the job open up. I still think you go back and take a swing at guys like Stoops, Meyer, Gruden, and Gary Patterson. How about David Shaw, Mora Jr., or Briles?

I am in agreement that we need to bring in a stud OC that is capable of running an O that suits our stable of QBs...in house promotion or Kelly is clearly not the answer...

How about we just keep some consistency for a year, maybe that would help.....

Golson isn't the answer in my opinion, I like how decisive MAlik looked today, I hope he continues to make strides and wins the job next year.

I agree with you, but do you really think Kelly's ego is going to let that happen? I don't.

I think there will be lots of changes on the staff. Unfortunately I think Alford could leave for a HC job. Also can we put Golsons troubles on our new QB coach? look at RG3

How bout when Golson threw a bullet right up the middle of the field through C Robinsons hands? Or when he completed 26 in a row vs Syracuse. I think it is more of a confidence issue.

Sorry, again...haven't read through this...

But the more I think of it why is Muschamp as D-Coordinator so far fetched?

We all know he has ability. Kid looks like a heisman winner one drive and a homesick schoolgirl with the flu the next ...sick of it and that ship has sailed!

We'll never pay anywhere near the amount of money that an SEC team would. He could go to Auburn and make over a million same with Bama.

He just got fired.

I knew someone would come with that...I'm not buying it.

Honestly this is a sad statement about the state of ND. For a program that once boasted "the best coaching job in America" it is amazing how far we have fallen. Brian Kelly, for better or worse, represents the ceiling of what we can expect in a head coach.

Brian Kelly is a good coach, possibly even a very good one, but he is not an elite coach. His in game coaching decisions are horrible and Brian Kelly the OC should be fired almost immediately.

Okay, why would he come here?

Ask him...IDK

Ummm, but...he is the best d-coordinator fresh off being fired looking for a job at a high established program...

IDK, what are your thoughts?

Lets go get him...

Lane Kiffen would never, ever be 'Bama's O-coordinator either...

But then 8 win Sark puts his 9th win on us handily today...Lane would have got beat, again.

BK got screwed with suspensions and injuries, but he didn't exactly do himself any favors with his coaching. He straight up blew the Northwestern game. He had unprepared teams for ASU and USC. How the hell do you start a game off with an illegal formation and then a false start? That's just bad coaching, nothing else.

I am no longer sold on BK right now. 1-5 to end the year with just a close win over Navy? He did nothing to tweak his game plans to put his players in a better position to win....we have 0 depth on D and he refuses to run the ball and keep them off the field?

"October is for pretenders, November is for contenders." Well, BK and ND looked like pretenders this whole month. If he can't get us to double digit wins next season with that schedule, then it's time to move on IMO.
