I have a hard time believing that if Andy Reid or Kyle Shannahan wanted to be OC's at ND, but their buyout was 2.8, and ND supposedly had a person ready to pay it, they would pass.If you're told you're shopping from the coaching bargain bin, it seems reasonable to take the bargain you are familiar with.
ND basically said they aren't going to pay a buyout for a coach. They had an offer from a BOT member to cover the buy-out and they said no. It would have cost ND zero dollars to do it. They still said no. At that point, if you're MF, why keep banging your head against the wall?
Because not every good coach requires that type of buyout. If you're told you're shopping from the coaching bargain bin, it seems reasonable to take the bargain you are familiar with.

Assuming Parker doesn't even want the job, then I want him even less. It's Wednesday afternoon as I type.
Parker was at a hockey game on FRIDAY NIGHT with a guy from Utah who he figured he'd be reporting to before too long. He interviewed for the job only after they pissed down their legs and made idiots of themselves publicly. He likely had zero ambition for the job until all this blew up in the faces of the people who pay his salary as tight ends coach. He goes back to Purdue with Freeman. He's his guy. In the back of his mind he has to know how it all looks and all he can do is make the most of it.
Nobody wanted them here, nobody still wants them here for the most part, and they're walking into a situation probably knowing it full well. I really hope they succeed and use that success to move on in the end. Not like anyone is going to pay to keep them around anyway.
We’ll see. I agree that the admin looks amateurish right now. But some very amateurish administrations have gotten remarkably close (or have even won) championships in the last decade. There’s a lot to play out hereI never thought I would say this but Notre Dame Football will never will another National Championship. These hirings are very unfortunate.
If I were his parent, I would be advising him to re-open contact with other schools. I don't know how you can trust that Parker will be good. Maybe Parker is, but going into CJs senior year, I wouldn't want him to be stuck with a bad OC at the school he is committed to and no other good options.Worry about Hartman... How about Carr? Despite his recent I'm on board comments, do we think he reconsiders at some point this Summer?

If Carr was your son, would you want him going to ND? In the last week, ND just told us all we need to know...Marcus won't last, he either does a great job with 1 arm behind his back and moves on to a real program like Kelly...or he gets fired.Worry about Hartman... I think the refusal on the buyout was tied specifically to Ludwig and his OL coach. I think they felt the specific juice wasn't worth the squeeze there.
I'm fairly certain ND has hired assistant coaches under contract with other schools and had buyouts tied to them.
Because not every good coach requires that type of buyout.
Not trying to be a dick but I'm truly dumbfounded by this narrative? This was ONE coordinator that had an unusually high buyout that ND has never paid for in the past. But, somehow this time around it's blasphemy Marcus Freeman is required to hire coordinators under these circumstances? Very good coordinators are hired every year without paying obscene buyouts. Freeman should be tasked and responsible for doing the same.
No, he could earn a lot of coin elsewhere AND be coached by a well regarded HC and OC. I will be shocked if Carr sticks. This will neuter offensive recruiting, Parker? I mean Freeman can recruit, but this is amateur hour. Freeman screwed the pooch. If Carr was your son, would you want him going to ND? Don’t threaten me with a good time.Assuming Parker doesn't even want the job, then I want him even less.
I’d advise him to if he asked me.Worry about Hartman... How about Carr? Despite his recent I'm on board comments, do we think he reconsiders at some point this Summer?
I don't think it's Freeman's fault. Going from Ludwig to Parker, is Freeman's fault. That's the point. The admin took a singular candidate off the table and now the world has burned and Freeman is being forced to hire his buddy. That makes zero fucking sense. The buyout price as far as ND was concerned was $0. They still wouldn't do it. Why is that Freeman's fault? The message to Freeman is loud and clear at that point.
The first part of your statement, yes, BUT maybe he still thinks about WHO is the next OC and/or QB coaches that take over? Hopefully, he now bleeds Blue & Gold and it's not a concern.I'm not worried.
Both have to have known this was a distinct possibility from the beginning.
I should rephrase that... we should always be worried about a likely 5 star QB a year away from committing, just like every other program in that situation.
I'm not particularly worried about Carr he's all in.
If the key to success is firing Watt, I’d say hiring him is a good place to startDidn’t Tulane just fire watt ike a year and a half ago? And look at that Tulane now
I'm sure he wants it now that he was put into a position to get it.Assuming Parker doesn't even want the job, then I want him even less.
Why do you think they didn't have conversations with Moorhead, Lewis, Candle, etc?Again, you don't go from Ludwig to Parker without ever having a conversation with Joe Moorehead. Or getting Sean Lewis, Jason Candle, etc. on campus. And, not own this decision. It's as simple as that. Freeman is hiring a guy that is very close to him and he trusts. He owns this decision. I want nothing more than Marcus Freeman to lead ND to NC so LFG Gerad Parker. But, he owns this nobody else. Taking one candidate off the table doesn't lead you here unless you want it too.
Correct, and let's not act like if football doesn't work out the kid would fail at life because he has a degree from UGA, FSU, Bama or Ole fuckin Miss.....all bullshit that ND spews. I'd love to see how the BOT acts when they turn into Ga Tech or Boston College and half the stadium is empty...it's coming. No, he could earn a lot of coin elsewhere AND be coached by a well regarded HC and OC. I will be shocked if Carr sticks. This will neutar offensive recruiting, Parker? I mean Freeman can recruit, but this is amateur hour. Freeman screwed the pooch.
Agreed. I mentioned the OC and OL coach from Oregon State. They have put together pretty good offenses with good lines and that's at a place like Oregon State. The combined buyout for the pair would have been $100k. I highly doubt the admin would have said no to that.I don't think it's Freeman's fault. Going from Ludwig to Parker, is Freeman's fault. That's the point. The admin took a singular candidate off the table and now the world has burned and Freeman is being forced to hire his buddy. That makes zero fucking sense.

Sometimes I'm not sure you can help it but you are literally proving the point.I
Why do you think they didn't have conversations with Moorhead, Lewis, Candle, etc?
Lewis just took a job and his offense isn't what Freeman wants to run.
Candle and Moorhead are head coaches. Candle already turned down Miami twice. Maybe he's not overly interested in taking an OC job. Same with Moorhead.
It's definitely not as simple as you are assuming it is. It sounds like Freeman has had discussions and has vetted guys like the ones you mentioned. But he ultimately felt Parker had the most familiarity with what he wants offensively. There's a reason why Ludwig was the guy, because his offense best matched what Freeman has said he wants. The other guys, easily could've been not a good fit or lack of interest, given their situations. Need to also remember that Parker was a legitimate name being mentioned throughout the process.
