Everyone is acting as if the offer extended to Ludwig wasn't controlled by ND.
Example A: ND offers Ludwig the job regardless of buyout, but then backs out after failing to negotiate said buyout down.
Example B: ND speaks with Ludwig about the job, and extends an offer which is dependent on the buyout being negotiated down. ND is unable to reduce the buyout, and therefore the offer is not actionable.
The spin on this whole situation is incredible...
Without context, and only a shred of information from the media folks, it is absolutely impossible to suggest ND screwed the pooch on this one. I would be willing to bet this situation was more along the lines of Example B all along, but that doesn't generate clicks.
