Being from Connecticut I have a bit more interest in this than most I'm sure, but UConn revealed all of their new uniforms for every sports team. While the jerseys all look fine and are not really anything special, it's the helmets that are pretty shockingly different. A program like UConn really needs something unique to get some attention, but I'm not sure if this is the type of unique they should be going for...

I particularly like that they cite "intimidation" as a reason they put the logo on the front. Unfortunately I think the opponent will be laughing at them rather than be intimidated by them. Although who knows, maybe that will end providing some sort of advantage.

I'm a UCONN grad. I'm digging the helmets

How do you feel about the new logo in general? I grew up with the fluffy, friendly logo and I've always loved it, so it's really weird for there to be a new one. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it might take a little while. A lot of friends of mine from high school go there now and from what I've heard people aren't very happy with the change.

I lived in Norwich for 15 years. Lot of ties to UConn and I love the helmets.

Most of the alums I have spoken to don't like it one bit. But, I love the new logo looks fierce. To each there own. People who don't like it have to deal with it.

Where in CT are you from?

Yeah I don't dislike the logo it's more of an "if it's not broken don't fix it" attitude for me. But the more I look at the helmet, at least the blue one, the more I like it. I still don't know if the white works for some reason, but the blue is definitely growing on me.

And I'm from Glastonbury. Born and raised a UConn basketball fan, and still root for them as long as they aren't playing the Irish.

Word. I know some people from Glastonbury. Most likely older than you. They are in their mid to late 20's.

Oh nice, yeah about a quarter of my graduating class went to UConn so Glastonbury is definitely well represented in Storrs. My older sister actually went to UConn, graduated in 07. Was there for the men and women's championship in the same year. Definitely some good stories from the aftermath of that!

Wouldn't be too surprised to hear that!

And I agree that there really wasn't much brand equity with the block C, and it was a pretty boring logo. We'll see how these look when worn during a game. Definitely going to take a while to get used to this style as it's pretty much never been done before.

I like them even though the blue on the logo doesn't match the blue on the helmet/facemask.

...I like the wolf on the helmet, but the total white background kinda ruins it for me...would have olved for them to put enough white to outline the blue on clear sticker...maybe a little red in the eyes...its cooler than it was

Q. Why is UConn Athletics changing the Husky logo now?

A. Athletics has been working to evaluate all parts of its visual identity, including wordmarks, logos, and uniforms, for the past 14 months. It became clear that the Athletics’ identity was scattered, with different logos and marks for its teams. In meetings with coaches and student-athletes, it was also clear that they felt very strongly that the existing Husky dog logo did not represent all of the attributes they wished to portray. While the existing logo has reflected Pride, Loyalty, and Strength, the student-athletes and coaches wanted Determination and Athleticism reflected as well.

I don't know about you but that Deterimation and Athleticism just jumps off that new helmet. Ought to be good for 4 or 5 more wins a season at least. Particularly if they can recruit the Determination and Athleticism that wears the headgear.

Not so sure about the Pride, Loyalty, and Strength when they chose to truncate the ears, nose, and mouth. That strikes me as disrespectful to the mascot. Does a Siberian Husky looked more intimidating with or without teeth?

The "framed" look evokes an image of Jack Nicholson announcing, "Here's Johnny!". The Shining was a scary movie but that scene got laughs not intimidation.

Tsk, tsk, ph. That's not a wolf that's a Siberian Husky, thank you!

Q. Why does the new Husky logo look like a wolf?

A. The difference between huskies and wolves is a common point of confusion for many people. Our new Husky logo is, and will always be, a Siberian Husky.
