Ogunbowale has yet to see a shot she doesn't like. Unfortunately for the rest of the team she hasn't been close to making anything.

Nelson is awful, just awful. So bad that I ask the question of why she has a scholarship probably 5 times a season.

Every time I watch women's basketball, the refs are always awful. Maybe it's just me...

Pretty bad collapse in the 4th quarter. Terrible shots from just about everyone. Not having a point guard in the game for the majority of the quarter really hurts. UCONN's best player goes out and the team goes on 21-5 run mostly on out hustling the Irish.

One should not do mental multiplication for a basketball thread using a 12 game football schedule. Mea culpa! Thanks for catching my error. O.P revised in RED accordingly.

NP...........4th quarter collapse was a disappointment, but not the end of the world. The ladies noe know they can play with anyone. Just need to supply effort all game long.

I feel like that's the first time in 5 years that not only could we hang with UCONN, but we were the better team. In the watching this team, I have to imagine this is the most athletic team Coach has had. They are fast and they play fast most of the game. Excites for the rest of the season.

Small observations/thoughts:

A). We were playing them in front of a packed house in their place;
B). Lobo said that this was not only very hard but that ND had essentially an entirely road schedule so far which would cause exhaustion. She said she was amazed that ND could keep up the intensity for as long as we did;
C). We played with these people for three+ quarters (for the most part looking better than them) until the home rested team pulled (a little) away;
D). Kat is not yet healthy. It really hurts her mobility, but she is warrioring it out. This is one of several problems with our poor off-ball help-side defense;
E). Jackie couldn't get into the offensive side of the game --- some of that was being assigned toughest opponent on defense, and some of that was that she might not have fouled on ANY of the four fouls called, causing her to be on the bench too much;
F). Koko played a surprisingly good game. Still, her lack of any speed is a problem; this includes set-up defense and the need to help out;
G). Thank The Lord for Marina busting out. Without that we lose by thirty; ... and Tough Girl Jessica;
H). Arike: Good Grief Lady --- play basketball not streetball. Sadly we are so depleted that Muffet can't exercise too much in game discipline, especially if Jackie (or anyone) is in foul trouble. Arike's weird wondrous ability to get hard shots to (occasionally) go in is ... what? ... hopeful? ... nice if the clock's running down? ... destructive of team organization on offense? (we only ran oldstyle Notre Dame offense about one of every five times down the floor --- 1).point guard with four foul line extended, or 2).Kat with the ball distributing from high/low post set-up --- and I do NOT believe that this is what Muffet wanted because we came out of every time out in one our two "traditional" formations. I believe that this is largely the Arike Factor. --- plus Lili for some unknown reason seems not quite to get it as a true point guard.)

Connecticut is real good still, but don't have anyone who will just dominate you and not let you have a real chance. We need to moderate our views due to one of their AAs getting in Auriemma's doghouse and sitting all second half, and the other big, Samuelson, being fragile. The #$%^ point guard is disgustingly REALLY good, and Nurse is the underrated leader. It's still going to be hard to beat them. Maybe A'ja Wilson can just dominate them and foul them out (they are strangely NOT DEEP this year.)

We are on the other hand REALLY fragile. Marina might be getting her offensive mojo back, and Jackie will be all the refs allow her to be. Jessica is wonderful, but she isn't fast, and needs to get the help-side defense thing downpat --- but she's a baller and will get it. Lili seems in a similar not-quite-there mode, but not just on the helpside defense but as to running the offense. Arike has regressed to her wildwoman persona (for at least half of her playing minutes.) Kat is wonderful oldstyle ND Kat, but we really need to get her healthy. I fear that she will not, because the injury needs rest and Muffet has no one else to play. That's six players --- one hurt, two trying to get team defense figured out, one who never did (Arike is just terrible at this), Marina having to play out of position at point guard 50% of the time --- and we still are beating almost everybody. Half-full/ half-empty.

Muffet, you have a tough job this year.

Game 9: #3/2 Notre Dame (7-1) vs Michigan State (5-2)
When: Wednesday, Dec. 6 | 7:00 pm ET
Where: Notre Dame, Ind. | Purcell Pavilion (9,149)
Watch: ACC Network Extra
Listen: PULSE FM 96.9 / 92.1 | Bob Nagle (PxP)

Notre Dame returns to Purcell Pavilion after 25 days away

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After 25 days away from the friendly confines of Purcell Pavilion, the No. 3 Notre Dame women’s basketball team (7-1) returns home to host Michigan State (5-2) on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, in addition to Bob Nagle having the call on Pulse FM 96.9/92.1.

The Irish lead the all-time series over the Spartans, 9-8, with the last meeting between the two resulting in a, 79-61, Notre Dame victory in East Lansing on Dec. 20, 2016.

WHO’S HOT
There is no hotter Irish player than Arike Ogunbowale, who over the last four games is averaging 23.8 points per game. Over that span, the junior shot 48.7 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range. Ogunbowale tied her career high 32 points at Michigan on Nov. 29, becoming one-of-five ACC players thus far this season to notch a 30+ point performance.

Jackie Young follows right behind, averaging 16.3 points per game and a team best 9.0 rebounds per game over the last four games. Young earned her first career back-to-back 20+ point performances with 23 points vs USF and 22 points vs South Carolina as part of the Gulf Coast Showcase, earning her tournament MVP honors and ACC Player of the Week recognition.

ROAD WARRIORS
From Nov. 14-Dec. 3, the Irish played seven straight games away from Purcell Pavilion, travelling 9,800 round-trip miles and matched the longest streak of non-home games in regular season history.

When Notre Dame took on UConn in Hartford on Dec. 3, it marked their fourth straight top-25 opponent, and fifth overall, all of which have been on the road. Only Notre Dame and UConn have squared off against four straight ranked foes this season and five overall. Furthermore, both Notre Dame and UConn are the only two schools to currently boast at least four top-25 ranked victories.

In addition, with the win at No. 22/20 Michigan on Nov. 29, the Irish procured its sixth win away from home this season, tying USC, Florida Gulf Coast and Houston for most wins away from its home court thus far.

1,000-POINT CLUB WELCOMES NEW MEMBER
The 2017-18 season could potentially witness now three different Irish joining the 1,000-career point club. Arike Ogunbowale became the 37th member of the prestigious group in the season opener vs Mount St. Mary’s when she earned a team high 21 points. Mabrey then followed suit becoming member No. 38 on Dec. 3 at UConn, when the junior poured in a season high 21 points. Now senior forward Kathryn Westbeld eyes the 1,000-point milestone, currently sitting with 819 career points.

ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE
After starting the season 4-0, Michigan State enters Wednesday’s contest with a 5-2 overall record. The Spartans suffered back-to-back losses vs UConn (96-62) and at Miami (67-57), before bouncing back to earn a 65-62 win over Western Michigan.

Three players average double-figures for the Spartans, starting with Branndais Agee’s 11.6 ppg. Agee, who was a Preseason All-Big Ten selection, became the 26th Spartan to notch 1,000 career points after collecting 10 points vs UConn. Agee is also fresh off of leading the team in scoring in the win over Western Michigan on Dec. 3, tallying 13 points.

Sidney Cooks follows suit averaging 11.1 points per game on 55.6 percent shooting. Cooks led the team vs UConn on Nov. 25, with 11 points and eight rebounds. A familiar name in Taya Reimer rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.2 ppg.

As a team, Michigan State ranks in the top-25 nationally in six different statistical categories: 16th in assists per game (19.1), 4th in offensive rebounds per game (20), 7th in rebound margin (14.6), 4th in rebounds per game (48.3), 21st in scoring offense (83.3) and 22nd in steals per game (11.9).

I watched the second quarter. The one thing that stood out to me was that Arike was being VERY careful to play team ball offensively. I imagine that Coach gave her several earfuls after the Connecticut game.
