Hats off to the team and staff for an incredible season given all the adversity they faced. No telling "what might have been"...but this season says a lot about the players and staff.
Good luck in the tourney, should have a good run.

Any word on what he said?

"Now you know who Asia Durr is!"

After the ACC selected Durr for POY, McGraw was interviewed about POY selection and said there was a strong case for Arike ... which there was. Their stats are very close with Arike Rebounding showing a more rounded player.

Walz made the comment in the post game handshake line while McGraw was congratulating him on winning the ACC Tournament. McGraw had a "What did you say?" look on her face as turned around and tugged on his sleeve.

USA Today Names Muffet McGraw Coach of the Year
Arike Ogunbowale announced as Second Team All-American

March 7, 2018

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – With the NCAA Tournament just over a week away, USA Today already announced its First, Second and Third Team All-Americans along with its Coach and Player of the Year. Karen & Kevin Keyes Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw received high praise in the Coach of the Year honor, while junior guard Arike Ogunbowale found herself on the Second Team list.

Despite four season-ending injuries which left the Irish with seven healthy scholarship players (no scholarship guard off the bench), Coach McGraw still guided Notre Dame to the program standard of success. The Irish achieved a 29-3 record against the No. 1 rated strength of schedule, defeating nine ranked opponents along the way, which stands as the second most in the country.

The Irish were also dominant on the road, picking up seven of those ranked wins away from home, which leads the entire country. Notre Dame also earned 15 total wins against the RPI Top-50, which also leads the nation.

Coach McGraw also spearheaded the Irish to their fifth consecutive ACC regular season title, going 15-1 in league play. The Irish also reached their fifth straight ACC Tournament Championship game and ninth consecutive conference tournament title game overall.

Player-wise, Ogunbowale picks up the first All-American honor of her career with the Second Team nod from USA Today. Ogunbowale is a major reason the Irish are on their way for a 23rd consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and a projected No. 1 seed.

Ogunbowale averages an ACC-best 20.2 points per game, which also ranks 24th in the country. Her 20 games of 20-plus points also leads the ACC while tying Notre Dame’s all-time single-season record. Ogunbowale’s 646 total points stands as the eight most for a single-season, while her 20.2 ppg ties Beth (Morgan) Cunningham for the second most, with Katryna Gaither holding the top-spot at 20.4.

How did we miss out on South Carolina and Baylor as a 2 seed!!??
I know nothing about Oregon this year and assume there a difficult team but if I had to choose I would have chose them as a 2 seed.

I rarely see a bracket that I like, but I like this one.

Oregon is real good, but we are set up for a real shot at success.

.... and UConn gets to be whacked around by South Carolina.

Irish Earn No. 1 Seed in Spokane Regional for NCAA Championship :: Notre Dame Women's Basketball :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of ND Athletics

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - For the 23rd straight year and 25th time overall, the University of Notre Dame women's basketball team is dancing in the NCAA Championship. The Irish were named a No. 1 seed in the Spokane Regional and will host First & Second Round action inside Purcell Pavilion starting on Friday, March 16, at 5 p.m. ET.

The Irish received a No. 1 seed for the seventh consecutive year and eighth time in program history. Notre Dame is 30-6 all-time as a top seed. In addition, Notre Dame received First & Second Round hosting duties for the 13th time, where they are 18-2 in NCAA play inside Purcell Pavilion, including the winners of 12 straight.

The nightcap of Friday's First Round doubleheader will feature No. 8 seed South Dakota State clash with No. 9 seed Villanova at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2. The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State are making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance after going 26-6 and winning the Summit League Championship. Meanwhile, Villanova is making its 11th NCAA appearance and first since 2013 after going 22-8 overall and 12-6 in the Big East.

As a conference, eight ACC teams made the Big Dance, which tied the league record set in both 2014 and 2015. The eight teams were the most of any conference this year.

Coach McGraw Named a Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year Finalist :: Notre Dame Women's Basketball :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of ND Athletics

Coach McGraw Named a Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year Finalist
One of four remaining head coaches in the running

March 14, 2018

ATLANTA - On Wednesday morning, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the four finalists for the 2018 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year award with Karen & Kevin Keyes Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw making the final ballot. She is joined by UConn's Geno Auriemma, Oregon's Kelly Graves and Mississippi State's Vic Schaefer.

Coach McGraw is a three-time winner of the Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year award, previously earning the accolade in 2001, 2013 and 2014.

This year is proving to be one of the best in Coach McGraw's illustrious Hall of Fame career. In fact, already, Coach McGraw has been dubbed Coach of the Year by both USA Today and espnW.

Despite the injury obstacles and adversity faced, the goal never wavered from eying a national title. The Irish, through it all, went 29-3 on the nation's No. 1 strength of schedule, ultimately earning their eighth No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship in program history.

Notre Dame knocked off nine top-25 ranked teams along the way, including three in the top-10 in South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida State. All-in-all, the Irish picked up 15 RPI top-50 victories, which ties UConn for the most in the country. The Irish also went 15-1 in the nation's No. 1 RPI rated conference, securing their fifth straight ACC regular season title.

Once again this year, the fans will have a say in determining the winner. Between March 19-30, fans can visit Naismith Fan Vote | Citizen Naismith Trophy to cast their ballot for one of the four finalists. Voting ends at 6 p.m. ET on March 30, and fans are limited to one vote per day. Lastly, the fan vote will account for five percent of the total vote.

The 2018 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year will be announced on Saturday, March 31.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The No. 1 seeded University of Notre Dame women's basketball team flexed its offensive muscle in its first round NCAA Championship matchup on Friday, knocking off No. 16 seed CSUN by the score of 99-81. It was a night for the record books, as the Irish tied the program mark for most points in a NCAA Tournament game in school history.

In addition, the Irish (30-1) achieved something that hadn't been done since Jan. 7, 1999, as three different scorers finished with 20 or more points. Arike Ogunbowale led the way with 30 points, followed by 24 points from Jessica Shepard and 23 points from Marina Mabrey.

"I thought Jessica Shepard, for her first NCAA Tournament game was phenomenal with a double-double. Could have had a triple double with seven assists and no turnovers," Karen & Kevin Keyes Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw said. "Marina helped Jess out by hitting three's and Arike did her normal offensive game, really hard to guard."

How It Happened
Up 23-16 heading into the second quarter, Jessica Shepard got the Irish off to a quick start, scoring six of the team's first eight points. Later, at the 5:26 mark, Mabrey connected on back-to-back treys, igniting what was a 12-0 Notre Dame run and eventual 19-8 run to end the half up 55-32.

All-in-all, the Irish recorded one of its best offensive quarters all season, tallying 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the second period. In fact, Notre connected on 11 of its last 13 to end the half. Ogunbowale notched 11 points in the quarter to lead the Irish with 18 points by the half, while Shepard and Mabrey followed suit with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

By three minutes into the third quarter, Mabrey had connected on two more three pointers. Then at the 3:50 mark, Mabrey not only connected on her career high sixth trey, but was also 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. A mini 5-0 run 50 seconds later by the Irish, gave Notre Dame it largest lead of the game, up 34 points at 82-48.

By the time the clock hit zero, Shepard had recorded her 12th double-double on the year and third straight with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Her seven assists also marked a career high. Mabrey finished one assist shy of her season high of eight and earned her 10th game of 20-plus points.
