Marina opened the scoring in the game and ND never trailed.

ND had a 17 point lead during the game and held a 12 point lead entering the 4Q but GB outscored the Irish 24-16 to make a close game when it should not have been.

GB's Lindstrom led all scores with 20 points and 16 rebs

For ND:
Arike finished with 18
Bri 14
Marina 13
Kat 10 with 8 rebs

Green Bay vs. Notre Dame - Game Recap - November 17, 2016 - ESPN

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Arike Ogunbowale scored 18 points, Brianna Turner added 14 and top-ranked Notre Dame overcame poor shooting and held on to beat Green Bay 71-67 in a Preseason WNIT semifinal Thursday night.

Notre Dame (3-0) went up 7-0 but couldn't extend the lead to double digits until early in the second half and couldn't shake the Phoenix (2-1), even after going up by 17 midway through the third quarter.

Green Bay cut the lead to 63-58 with a basket by Jessica Lindstrom with 3:41 left. The Phoenix had a chance to get closer but Mehryn Kraker airballed a 3-point attempt and Turner scored on an alley-oop pass.

Kraker cut the lead to 66-61 with a 3-pointer, but Marina Mabrey made two free throws with 35 seconds left and then deflected a 3-point attempt by Lindstrom. The Phoenix cut the lead to five points again on a 3-pointer by Lindstrom and the final four-point deficit on a 3-pointer by Frankie Wurtz with 3 seconds left.

BIG PICTURE

Green Bay: The Phoenix, the favorites to win the Horizon League, played their first game ever against a No. 1 ranked team and stayed within reach throughout the game as they gave the Irish all they could handle.

Notre Dame: The Irish struggled offensively early against the Phoenix, who ranked ninth nationally in scoring defense last season at 52.2 points a game, but managed to pull out the victory despite being held to 36 percent shooting.

UP NEXT

Green Bay: The Phoenix are knocked out of the Preseason WNIT. Green Bay plays road games against Belmont, Chattanooga and Bradley before returning home to face Drake on Dec. 3.

Notre Dame: The Irish will play the winner of No. 17 Washington and No. 25 Missouri played later Thursday in the Preseason WNIT final at home on Sunday. The Irish then play at Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday.

This game reminded me of the NCAA tournament game against Stanford last year; Stanford beat Notre Dame by 6. Like Stanford, Green Bay was hot from 3 (12/25) and I think there was a couple times they hit 3s on 3 or 4 consecutive possessions. So considering Green Bay was lights out from 3, Notre Dame shot less than 40%, and that Green Bay is actually a pretty good team, I'd say this game could've been a lot worse.

Arike is off to a tremendous start. Through 3 games she has scored 30, 13, and 18 points through the first 3 games. She's well on her way to being in the same category as Skylar Diggins, Kayla McBride, and Jewel Loyd.

They play #17 Washington on Sunday at 3:00 ET for the WNIT Championship.

Also, really tough game for Turner inside. Missed a lot of shots we got accustomed to see her make. She really has yet to find her groove back. It's pretty normal, since she haven't had the same time as others to prepare for the season, we the surgery... We are a work in progress, but things look positive.

Two areas of concern the past two games are bad FT shooting and an inability to pull away. In the both of the last two games we've seen the Irish build a comfortable lead and then let the other team hang around or get back into the game. ND should not be getting outscored in the 4th quarter at home.

The girls beat Iowa 73-58. They improve to 7-0; they play Valpo on Sunday before the #1 vs #2 showdown on Wednesday.
