This game makes me think negatively about Muffet. There is no reason why they should not be better than UCONN. Maybe she's not as good at coaching as I thought and maybe Lindsay Allen and Brianna Turner aren't that good either. Turner getting balled up by a true freshman is absolutely unacceptable.

I don't watch women's bball, but watched from 3 mins in the 3rd quarter and on. Is this ND team expected to be equally/greater talent than uconn? Cause they were dominated every possession I watched.

Our players have to go to class. I doubt their players do. Brianna Stewart majored in "Individualized Sport in Society" at UConn---in other words: majoring in basketball.

If there was a time for Notre Dame to catch UCONN on a "bad" year, it was this season. UCONN lost their 3 best players to the WNBA and they are really young right now. Notre Dame has a lot more upperclassmen and their players should be just as good. But something is obviously not right.

That's the reason they beat us on our home court, even in a down year? Give me a break. UConn has the best coach in the history of women's college basketball, hands down. Simple as that.

Idk. UCONN women's basketball players actually sound pretty smart compared to South Carolina women's basketball or Alabama football (listening to them try to speak makes my ears hurt).

The Irish girls just need to be better. Plain and simple.

If you think "Individualized Sport in Society" isn't just a jock major, then I don't know what to tell you. As for Geno, there's a reason he's never made the move to men's basketball.

watched the game, UConn has a smothering defense. They also move well as a team on offense without the basketball. Notre Dame runs the same offense every possession, they only attempt a high low offense. They don't move without the basketball well at all. UConn has some long, athletic girls and if you just stand around and don't move without the basketball against a defense like that, they won't win.

Yes, I do agree he needs to coach a mens sport.

I guess I'm not sure how their majors affect their performance on the court.

We just were not mentally prepared to play this game. We looked sloppy, inconsistent, and nervous. We played well in spots, but we looked like the "young" team. They were just more poised than us. In our arena.

One positive: outscored badly at the FT line. If FT attempts are even its a different game. Hopefully we can get to the line more when/if we play UConn again.

It means that they don't have a "real" academic curriculum to which they must devote a significant portion of their time. They can spend all of their time practicing, lifting weights, watching film, practicing free throw shooting, etc... They don't have to worry about studying, labs, projects, research papers, etc... Majors like that are intended simply to keep players eligible and focused solely on their sport. That's how it affects their performance.

Yeah this girls team isn't very good

This isn't true. They didn't really played up to their potential. A lot of uncharacteristic errors tonight. Good news is that we are in December and we have a great coach. See you again in march UConn...

FTs are a complete disaster so far this year. That absolutely must change for a shot at a title.

An aside: one positive to come from this game is that it increases the odds that ND is on UConn's side of the bracket. Given that UConn is undefeated in title games, it's probably not an accident that ND's success against UConn in the tournament has been in the semifinals, not the finals. The odds are high that ND would have to beat UConn at some point to win a title, and the odds of that are better in the semifinal than the final.

In the meantime, though, work on the FT shooting...

ND Women lose 70-62

6 points in the 3Q. SIX.

Marina was ND leading foul shooter with 2-3. Bri and LA both 1-4. Nobody else got to the line despite two opponents fouling out.

Bri fouled out.

Beat with treys and no foul shooting and poor passing. The play doesn't like anything like KMac's era.

so far, I've only seen a little of the ladies this year, but from what I have seen, we're not as good as projected. Need to bear down some.

MBB: After seeing UVA's Kyle Guy wearing his hair in a manbun, kinda glad he didn't choose ND. That now bring the 2018 to already 3 commits. I believe I read that the class could have as much as 4 or 5 girls. The 3 girls currently committed are all guards so look for the last 1 or 2 to hopefully be bigs.

Jenna Brown is, by far, the highest rated recruit Muffett has in the 2018 class.

No Big Macs Tonight

No Big Macs Tonight

Final ND 86 Pitt 54

Arike was the leading scorer based on 5 of 8 beyond the arc. Young had 15 and 8 rebs. But Koko was the big story with a career high 13 points and 7 rebounds.

ND dominated taking down 41 rebs to Pitts 19. 21 of ND's 41 rebs were grabbed by the bench who also scored 39 of the team's points.

ND shot 50% from the floor, 44% from the arc, and 90% from the Line. ND hit 27 of 30 free throws with Koko the only shooter missing a FT, missing three out of 10 for 70%.

The passes inside were still sloppy but tonight Koko and Young cleaned up the rebs on the missed shots and turned them into buckets.

Ten played for ND and all scored. Patberg didn't take a shot ... again but was 2-2 from the Line.
