I'd pay 10 bucks for two... And with the thousands of ppl that flood the bookstore and drop boat loads of money i'm sure 10/20 dollars for game day pom poms for the family wouldn't take a second thought...i spent 1500 my first trip, this yr spent 500 bought pom poms both times for my girl..

I agree with you If it works, I'll be pleasantly surprised and pleased... Go Irish Beat BC

I hate to say "I told you so", but I told you so. At least the pompoms looked cool in the student section.

We used the hell out of the pom poms....dont know why people didnt use them...it got kinda chilly in the 2nd half...and our Offensive woes added to a kinda meh excitement level. I felt the crowd did well while Fredo had the football though. Just know this guy and the 20 or so people in my section were yelling our butts off.

.....no offense, but the stadium music has got to go or at least be changed up a little. It's cool that they're trying something new, but playing extremely noticeable chopped up music up until 3 seconds before the ball is snapped or playing a song, stopping for a few seconds, and then replaying the same song during a halt in play gets annoying surprisingly fast.

Pompoms were a nice touch though

I suspect a "cultural" issue. Cheerleaders and cheerleaders wannables use pom poms. It's viewed as a girl thing except at some schools like Alabama where you can see them around the stadium. They were widespread 20 years ago in Legion Field so it wasn't just a campus thing.

Like the music, the powers that be are trying to change the "culture". The students are going to be more receptive to taking part. Hopefully it will grow as the "bad knee" folks may not be able to stand but they can shake pom poms even sitting down. It creates the effect of involvement.

It's a start.

I sat next to Senior section for this (BC) game. Their section ends around the 40-45 yard line. They were more interested in their marshmallows and their conversations than the game. Maybe they've sat through too many losses, but they were not loud or energetic. The music made no difference. They stood around and gave a half assed effort. The music made no difference.

Completely true and accurate.

I prefer towels to pom poms.

Justin Bieber could pull off pom poms. Chuck Norris could kill you with pom poms, but he wouldn't, because that would look womanly.

Also, the pom poms looked cheesy, like something from a dollar store IMO.

I kind of like the idea of shileghlies (pardon the spelling) myself. Now, that would be bad-***. A stadium full of crazed drunks waving big clubs around.

I agree. The seniors were absolutely embarrassing. I could not believe those kids really acted the way they did. The senior student body is an embarrassment to the University of Notre Dame this year. I've noticed their crap all season at the games. PATHETIC!

Wait, wait ... WAT??? These were college seniors and not blue-haired seniors??? For shame, for shame!!! How dare they talk through the game while popping their vodka soaked marshmallows!!! Ban them, ban them!!!

I kid, of course. My excessive use of punctuation marks should be a clue.

Music is hit-or-miss no matter what. The crowd encompasses a wide range of tastes from Big Band Swing to Rock (in it's many iterations) to Punk to Hip Hop, Ska and Rap. Good luck!

Personally I'm partial to Edvard Greig's "In The Hall Of The Mountain King." Check it out on You Tube ... you'll find orchestral versions as well as versions by Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Who, Apocalyptica and Epica. Good chit.

Only you would come up with "In the Hall Of The Mountain King." Man, I'm glad your back on this board. (Gratuitous punctuation error intentionally made in your honor.)

I tried, but couldn't find a Stones version. I just love the bucolic beginning that builds to a frenetic crescendo.

Hey, in spite of their hard livin', hard drinkin' and hard scrappin', the Irish gots some kulture.

I don't know why I find this so funny, but I'm still laughing about this one. Maybe its because of the overall goofiness with which I view the whole debate about what music to play in the stadium. Maybe "Sweet Virginia?" Get the whole crowd singing the line about "got to scrape the **** right off your shoes." That ought to fire some people up.

I think that that would poteen (a variant of "scotch" to give the term an Irish twist) any future night games. Talk about a lawsuit waiting in the wings ...

I felt someone tap me on the shoulder less than a minute into the game yesterday. Before I even turned around I knew what was coming next. "Could you sit down so we can see?" An older couple was behind me and a group of 5 older men behind and to my left. I didn't say anything, just sat down and shook my head. I also stood up ANY time anyone in the two rows in front of me stood but there weren't any other complaints luckily.

All this talk about music played in the stadium during games tickles my funny/sarcastic bone. With apologies in advance, here's a paean to Notre Dame and all its Loyal Sons and Daughters:

What I did notice were the marshmallows being thrown at the team. The announcer requesting them to stop and than they continue. Not sure if the announcement could be heard on t.v. or them being thrown, but thought it was dissapointing to say the least. I remember few years ago (Teo recruit visit maybe?) the same thing from the student section. Not sure the reasoning behind it. Just kids? Seniors last game? How about they were drunk....whatever

I don't condone their behavior but I can understand it. During my 4 years, ND compiled the worst four-year record in their history. This senior class is only one year removed from that. If this game had been played during my senior game instead of Utah, I would be pretty pissed and depressed. This was the kind of game that we would definitely lose. Good lead in the first quarter pissed away, opposing offense coming back to life, etc. used to spell an eventual loss. So I assume they just decided to accept it. I think we can all admit that was a pretty awful game. For big games, all of the students go nuts. This was a horrible game against a horrible team, where we played badly but fortunately got the win. Cut them some slack, it's been a long four years.

The seniors always throw marshmallows for the senior game. In fact, they used to do it for every game their senior season, but the ushers started to take away the marshmallows. It's not a big deal, it's not like they're taunting the players by throwing marshmallows. And the Syracuse snowball fiasco was total bullcrap. The students were having a snowball fight and during one of the year-long tv timeouts, people started throwing them at the NBC camera guy and the cops (SBPD and Indiana Excise had been cracking down hard so those $hits deserved it) and a few of the snowballs hit the players. Kuntz got pissed because and started yelling and the media took off with it. The media tried to paint it as the hooligans in the ND student section decided they would throw snowballs at the players to show their displeasure.

No, he's right. Its an embarassment. We all know ND's mission as an educational institution is creating the rowdiest, most interested fans in the FBS.

The marshmallow thing is both harmless and a tradition. Really shouldn't even be a discussion.

I realize it is a tradition but didn't know it was tradition to throw at that the team. Just saying. I could care less if they throw at each other. Have fun it's college but also support the team in a year that has changed from last.

When the PA announcer has to say "the players and coaches ask that you stop throwing marshmallows at them. Its not a great way to support them." It isn't a good thing. players on the sideline were turning around and looking into the stands while the game was going on.

I'm sure the yellow seats found it to be plenty lowbrow... Hence, they just had to leave before halftime to avoid being struck by said mallow.

It might be beneficial for marshmallows to be thrown at the gold seaters every game. :)
