You are one of my favorites on here, but with all due respect, I don't think you get it at all. For one, I am not arguing. I am JOKING--trying to simply add some levity to what seems to be a rather monotonous conversation. Here Come The Irish obviously got it.

Not joking, however, about the constant insults hurled at older alums here, however. We certainly carried our weight "waking up the echos" and "shaking down the thunder," and still do. We don't deserve this bullshit.

I was thinking you were, but internet and texting jargon has dulled my humor receptors to only acknowledging something as a joke if it is followed by a "haha" or "lol". It's truly a curse.

I am one of the people who argue about the crowd needing to get more pumped, but you are right, the older folk like yourself don't deserve petty insults.

Respect your elders is something my dad preached. Hell, I was taught to respect everyone (who hasn't proved to be unworthy).

i don't understand why the rally towels will be blue if the team is wearing green and the crowd is trying to create a green-out. it doesn't make sense.

and also, they'd better not be navy. could anything possibly stand out less than navy (other than black) in a night game?? if they must be blue (which makes no sense!!) they'd better be lighter blue like the shirt is. again, BLUE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

also, i think this may be the final nail in the green-out coffin. there's no way green shirts would be handed out at the gate along with blue rally towels. it's also unrealistic to think both rally towels and shirts would be given out. oh well.

You go to Michigan with JumboTrons and you have music and 115,000 screaming people. You go on the road and you’re involved in those kind of environments. I think it starts with playing good football, myself.

“I think we’ve got to get the crowd into it. Play exciting football, and I think those other things will naturally come. I’m sure we’ll look at all of those things closely. It’s not really on my radar right now. It’s more about getting our team ready for USC.”

They are on Swarbrick’s radar, though they’re more long-term than short-term. But he said he’ll even unveil a few Saturday night.

“I’m not going to share what they are at this time,” he said with a chuckle

Tricks!

Probably music will be one of them.

As far as the towels. My guess is since Sprint is handing them out there wasn't alot of coordinating on their part with what color to make them. Regardless, hopefully our stadium is a sea of green fans crazily waving towels and yelling their heads off.

I can't wait to go to NDNation tomorrow and see a 200 comment thread on how Swarbrick is (insert negative connotation here) for having the gall to get rally towels---but more so for having Sprint put their name on the towels.

Oh no marketing!!!

This is the first step to advertisements in the stadium!!

Corporate whores!!!!

We clearly have something going with Spring as they are also doing the "Watch a game with the Rocket" sweepstakes.

Notre Dame probably should put a label on your hot chicken soup stating the fact that it is indeed Hot Chicken soup and it could potentially burn you as it is Hot Chicken Soup.... It worked for McDonalds....(which is where I have a feeling you're going with this) and might be a good idea for those within a 50 foot proximity of said Hot Chicken soup to know of your desire to enjoy your Hot Chicken Soup in Notre Dame Stadium as it's your ND game day tradition. I'm sure the other 80,000 folks in attendance would hate to tread against you or your Hot Chicken soup as this is after all, all about a man and his Hot Chicken Soup and everyone needs to sit down any time HotChicken Soup enters said arena area.

You all should be ashamed of trying to create an atmosphere where Hot Chicken Soup could potentially be spilled. This whole situation is beyond concerning.

I think bringing Hot Chicken Soup to a football game could be considered hazardous, reckless and the same as bringing a dangerous weapon. You could burn someone with your Hot Chicken Soup.

Is the University trying to lesson the home field advantage? This is the kind of thing that I would laugh about in other Stadiums. I am tired of taking first timers to a Notre Dame Game (From Texas) and them saying, " it was great, but I expected it to be louder and more exciting". THEY ARE RIGHT and I can no longer defend Notre Dame Stadium after Bush League crap like this.

Man do I have a deal for you. For the low cost of nothing, you can take me. I promise you won't have to defend anything (within reason) to me. Hahaha. Just kidding

But really I'm not

Yeah, I'm joking. But seriously, I'm not

Seriously?? If the rally towels are actually blue i'm gonna be a little... irked... because the students have worked hard to make it a green out, tons of students already bought green shirts just for this game, and I have done tons of "green out" advertising.

Who forgot to tell Sprint?

this. i also am really hoping the towels aren't navy, because nothing will stand out less against a dark crowd than dark blue rally towels.

sprint really dropped the call on this one.

hardy har har

*UPDATE* on the link above a guy said he's already gotten his. and guess what color it is? you'll never guess?

NAVY!

sonofabitch. that's terrible.

They are not making special towels for the game, they are the same ones they have been handing out all year at the Irish Green. I have one from the MSU game.

Mention Jumbotron and those guys go into hyper-defense mode.... No need to read the rest of the article. Been there done that and I've got the t-shirt to prove it. Worst board on the net.

I'm aware of the differing views between NDN and IE. I also read the article and was about to post it on this thread because I took something different from it.

The rules of the stadium and the ushers defending them are a HUGE problem. That needs to change first and foremost. I completely agree with them when they say that a jumbotron will not cure the stadium atmosphere if these restrictions are still in place. However, I support the idea of a jumbotron/field turf/etc because I don't feel these items jeopardize what ND represents as a university. This sort of entertainment would be beneficial during those extra long TV timeouts or official reviews by keeping the crowd revved up (my personal opinion, obviously). I don't feel that article was solely about their hatred of jumbotrons. More so it was about the tranquility of a once common war site that was occupied by spectators and their blood curtailing screams of cheer and what is the cause of it's current state.

Last, to anyone who is still doubting the crowd noise or "sit down and shut up" stories, this article goes into detail with many examples describing this situation. That in itself is worth the read. It should, and will, open your eyes to the problem. Notre Dame Stadium used to be a feared place for opponents to play. Now it's just a historical place. "Ssshhhh, no talking in the museum."

Well then my friend, might I suggest the loudest, most annoying thing I have ever heard. Bring my ex-wife & when you get her in there, tell her I got a raise & she isn't going to get her 14% of it. Guaranteed loudest, most ear splitting bitch on the planet. Then simply tell her about some kind of good fortune I have had each time you want to make that noise. I like to call my invention " The MEGABITCH 3000":curse:

We need 80,000 green, blue and gold Vuvuzelas!
:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:
Or, mine and #1IrishFan's ex-wives. I swear they are louder and more annoying!

:banghead2:soapbox::curse:

The towel color won't matter as long as the crowd is waving them nonstop.

Blue will look a bit goofy with the "Green Out," but let's face it - the entire student section and 70% of the remaining fans will be blacked out.

It's going to be loud.

The '05 game was ridiculously loud.

Sprint should have known that white towels are always the safe bet, but honestly it doesn't matter. It may be better that the towels are blue. The color clash will appear crazier on the field than if it were just a solid green.
