Tommy Rees could win the starting job. But if he does it will be very bad news for Irish fans. He can't throw downfield well enough to stretch a defense. He is absolutely incapable of extending a play with his legs. He locks in on primary receivers and throws into coverage too often (without Floyd stealing 10 Tommy duck passes last season his INT numbers would be worse). He can't throw a fade to save his life. If Tommy wins out it is because neither Golson or Hendrix have a clue what is going on with the offense. BUT...I think that is unlikely because Chuck Martin knows how to coach up his players. I would personally bet on Everett Golson to win out, with Hendrix as his primary competition.

Hendrix or Golson. If it had to be decided tommorow I think it would be Hendrix but Golson can make up the ground

I think it will be Hendrix because he has more experience than Golson.

You didn't see yesterday's practice video, did you. Watch at 1:16 mark. Whoever is ND's QB better be able to make that throw or ND's height advantage will be wasted - again.

Irish To The Core, how do Hendrix, Golson, and Kiel do throwing fades in college?

Hendrix starts the season over Golson. He has game experience, not alot but some. Golson will see action in each game and needs too. Tommy may come in for mop up duty here and there to keep him sharp too. Who starts the bowl game is the real questions. If all goes according to plan, Gunner red shirts. If there is an injury in the first half of the season, Gunner may rise to QB#2 over Tommy as he has future as our QB.

I don't have a favorite personally, I have a feeling this is not a popular take on the QB situation, but Tommy was 8-9 in the scrimmage yesterday and threw a TD, he is the frontrunner with Hendrix right behind him. Kiel is likely redshirted if all goes according to plan. This leaves Golson the odd man out.

Where did you get the scrimmage stat?

Considering Kelly keeps belaboring that all QBs started on the same page with no regard for experience AND they are basically running drills, how is there a frontunner and #2 at this point?

I also have no favorite.

If you want to private message me I can tell you.

A PM to tell how you have scrimmage stats...and why you think it's Rees, Hendrix, Golson as the odd man out, and Kiel gets a redshirt???

Are you Epitome or Brian Kelly???

If Coach Kelly starts Tommy Rees and he does the same thing he did last year, I think he will be on the hot seat. Mentally Tommy is probably the best bet, but physically the other 3 QBs have much more upside. I just cannot see Tommy Rees starting, average mobility and arm strength, most experience. Hendrix above average mobility and arm strength, little experience. Golson and Kiel same as Hendrix but with no experience. I think all signs point to Hendrix. Plus I just cannot take another year of Tommy Rees starting.

This thread needs a poll!

It's up. But I left the vBookie event to the last years owner.

I miss Epitome.

He was a good dude. Regardless of the BS he earned, I enjoyed the guy.

Neither. He's somebody with a source and the source feels Tommy is the frontrunner.

Most of the comments in this thead is about who somebody wants not who is getting it done. Rees obviously is not the most gifted athlete in the competition but despite his "deficiencies" he had one of the Top 5 passing season All-Time for ND. Only Quinn and Clausen did better. And unlike them he didn't do it as an underclasseman, he did it as a true sophomore younger than Clausen when Jimmy arrived on campus.

Look at the stats of QBs and you'll find most reduce Ints as they develop in college. Keep in mind Rees stats and clips are from live fire in Div 1. They're not the high school clips people keep posting for the other guys. IF the others can think at the speed of the college game and handle the reads, they're athletic talents should vault them to the front. IF they don't process at Div 1 speed, Tommy will still be starting.

We're only halfway through Spring Ball, one scrimmage done and we've only seen snippets. Lots of time between now and September. Kelly doesn't seem anxious to give the job to anybody at this point much less the winner of a fan poll. I can wait and hope to see progress from all 4 QBs. May the most effective QB win the job. Competition will make the offense better.

There is unfortunately a difference between stats at a practice and performance in game.

I have seen totally enough from tommy in game action--mediocre play is all we can ever expect under game pressure.

If by some fluke the coaches add up the practice notes and decide tommy has earned the start---we will be on the verge of a total meltdown of this team's potential, and kelly's prospects along with it.

There is a calm resignation on many boards that if tommy wins the start it must be because the coaches know what they are doing. Unfortunately that calm will turn to total mutiny & chaos after the first two interceptions that REES throws. It is inevitable. From there the team & fans turn on the coach and his decision process---calls for a change will put pressure on the coach to ADMIT a mistake, or take his chances to prove he knew what he was doing.

My my, if you are looking for one single factor that can turn the 2012 season into a total catastrophy of both perfromance , results , & confidence---start Tommy Rees and roll the dice!

It's obvious that QBs get better as they get older. But comparing his stats to Quinn and Jimmy is very misleading. In a shotgun spread, completion percentages will always be higher, especially since Jimmy and Brady threw long passes much more frequently. I'll be fine with any QB other than Rees. If Rees starts, I'm not going to bother getting tickets to the scUM game or any other game. At least if I'm watching on TV, I can turn it off.

^^THIS

The scariest part is he's a great practice player...it's when the lights go on that he throws picks at a mind numbing rate.

But since he's a practice all-star he might win this thing and then play very well against the Navy and decently against purdue.....before throwing 3 INT's in the first half against MSU and we're down 24-0 at half. Of course then we throw hendrix or golson into the fire in night game against scUM...and then, well then things get fugly.

I am undecided yet on who I really want to QB this next season. I would love to see someone more agile than Tommy Rees, but I also don't know if any of them are truly ready. So, I don't want BK throwing Hendrix or Golson out their just because he and the fan base want someone with agility. Tommy Rees has done some impressive things for a true Frosh/Soph. After this upcoming season do I want to see Rees as the starter? Not unless he grabs it by the horns this year. But for THIS season, regardless of who BK stands by, I will support them.
