Ugh...morning after and still stings bad...

1) That last drive.....WTF. I don't care if you have sam Hartman, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady back there....run the damn ball. Force them to use their timeouts, and then that 10 second runoff becomes huge on the intentional grounding.

2) Tackling. When or why has this become such a lost art?

3) Dline pressure. Pretty sad when the announcers even asked on air if ND should just send Sneed. At minimum let him and Bothello get in there and rush McCord since no one else could.

4) Kicker. If he hits that first FG....we're still celebrating cause Freeman would of had more confidence in him.

5) AL Golden. D played hard, but I think I'm over his schemes and would like to see a new coordinator next year. Why the hell do you blitz a corner with that much on the line when no one has gotten home all night?

6) Need to send the safties asses out for practice with the Jugs machine. Sad that 3 picks went through DJ Browns hands....the final one would of ended the game for christ sake.

All in all....moral victory...hell no....its an L. But am proud of the boys cause they fought all the way to the end. Just mad I have to hear from OSU fans at work and how pubic hair beard won

Oh....and Putuporshutup and still go fuck right off

Tonight is the reason why you HAVE to have great coaching. Did the players not execute absolutely. DJ Brown. Someone else said it and I don’t remember who it was but Sam looked scared at times.

Golden good coach but not great.
Parker is ok.
Freeman is good

If Parker calls a pass and Freeman say no we are running the ball pretty much ball game.

But everyone will give Freeman a pass and it’s unacceptable.

Except you left out the biggest blunder … last two plays with 10 on the field … I’ve never seen a worse end of game coaching performance

Freeman didn’t even know in PC that it wasn’t the last play, it was the last two. Someone needs to be held accountable… 37 seconds between second to last and last to get 11 players on field… this was all after a timeout earlier

Agree, it was coaching mistakes all game. Agree sam made some mistakes as well.

Freeman finally admitted they aren’t getting pressure. Maybe stop hiring friends that failed at their last stop(Washington).

I just can’t with dj brown. So bad

The problem is that the last drive before we decided to go with 3 defensive lineman we were getting the best pass rush of the night. Playing prevent defense is the Dumbest call in all of sports.

I don’t think I have the heart to watch the highlights, but a few takeaways.
  1. If ands or buts…. But genuinely think that overturned first down completely changed how the game was gonna go. ND finishes that drive and OSU is in the hole right away
  2. I thought ND largely looked like the better team.
  3. Rookie coaching in a few key moments-not the 10 men- but the one fourth down sneak from what I thought was too deep to sneak and airing it out on the final drive leading to clock stoppages. Make them use their timeouts and don’t get cute with it. That defense was worn down man.
  4. No moral victories, but I can’t get too mad at Golden when 17 points is the least amount OSU has scored since 2017.
  5. This team can win every game the way out. Not saying they will, but they showed tonight they’re more than capable. Beat Duke big to get back on track
  6. Ultimately, this one hurt a lot but at the end of the day was very blessed to be able to partake in the atmosphere. Got very lucky with some incredible seats right on the tunnel:

Also, Sampson or Prister always say if you run the ball 40 times you win the game. ND ultimately ran the ball 39 times with that one time they didn’t being the difference

You should probably change your logo. The coaching was bad enough you need to take the laser eyes off freeman.

Unfortunate result, especially considering Ohio State is not all that good. Sometimes it feels like ND is just cursed.

You can point to a lot of plays in the game, but IMO this game came down to not getting consistent pressure on the QB, particularly when Golden backed off and only rushed three on third and 24. That gave their receivers plenty of time to get deep enough for the 1st down.

BTW…..BenMo pretty much shut down Harrison. Kids a stud.

Right. Zero pressure all night, he had 5 seconds to throw. Etc.

I've been saying it since game 1. The lack of pass rush is a problem, especially against better offenses. Dline just doesn't have the talent this year. Ohio St will lose to Michigan again which is all gross

I put this loss on Freeman and both Coordinators. Just completely unacceptable to look like the better team much of the game, have that many self-inflicted wounds, still have a chance to win...only to shit the bed and blow it in the epic fashion that they did.

I have the time stamp to prove it....when Parker called whatever the hell series that was at the end, I got extremely nervous. When OSU converted the first long conversion on 4th down, I immediately sent out the "Bush Push" text to all my friends. You just knew it was going to happen again. 18 years later and I get to relive that painful feeling. I'm genuinely sick to my stomach over this loss like I was back then.

I hope OSU doesn't beat them twice. At Duke next week will be a tough game and they still have USC and at Clemson. If the coaches, tackling, execution, etc don't get better when it matters most, they'll lose all three of those games and go 8-4. Think about that...8-4 with Sam MF Hartman as your QB and the amount of talent at RB and DB would be hard to fathom.

Sunday morning report:

I imbibed last night in vintage form. The headache feels bad.

It’s time to accept reality now that Sunday is here. The game is over and the world is still spinning.

This is unequivocally who we are. It will NEVER change.

I’m not mad at the team, I’m mad at myself. As an adult, it is embarrassing to hold a shred of hope for something that is IMPOSSIBLE.

It’s literally akin to sitting up in bed hoping Santa will deliver presents at the age of 40. Bad look.

I promise to do better, and embrace the limitations of this program.

I will gleefully accept bowl trophies from games played in December.

*Ohio State fans read stuff like this and think “LULZ, WE BROKE THEM.”

I honestly couldn’t care less what a bunch of dipshits that have lived their entire life and will be buried in Rust Belt shithole flyover country think.

Yes, your team was better last night, but I am better than you. Deal with it.

Some thoughts on the game and the program and season.
1. Say what you want but Parker called a hell of a game. We had zero 3 and outs which were very common with Rees and Kelly. We moved the ball on every drive minus the last one. Players need to execute. I loved the 2 backs in the backfield need to see more of that all year.
2. OL played their asses off only giving up one sack I’ll take that. Especially against a front 7 with 4-5 1st or second round picks.
3. The defense played lights out against one of the better offenses in college football. I think USC is better so that will be another test.
4. The refs were pretty fair across the board they let a lot go on both ends. Whoever is in charge of hiring the officials tho stop bringing in guys from the conference we play.
5. Coaches need to figure out why or how did we only have 10 guys on the field the last two plays someone needs to be held accountable.
6. I blame the players for the loss tho. It’s a loss across the board. Hartman should have easily picked up the first down on that first drive that’s probally 7 points there. We should have picked up the first down on the other 4th down play. The last drive of the game we missed tackles, should have had two INT and should have sacked McCord but allowed him to get a throw off. Need to clean up all that.
7. Need to just keep winning and let things play out but I’m not sure 1 loss gets us in a playoff this year I’ll honestly be happy if we can get a New Years Six with Bama or LSU.
8. Love Freeman and he’s 100% the right guy for the job you can tell might and day the difference between him and Kelly and the energy he brings. Kelly woulda lost this game by 14 he also woulda never played any of the freshman that was the main reasons we were in this game. Greathouse, Flores, Love and Pride
9. Is Colzie getting snaps zero catches for 3 weeks in a row?
10. Mitchell evans is a stud gonna be another really good TE.
11. We were better than Ohio State but this Ohio State isn’t anywhere close to the ones they have had in years past. It’s actually a down here across college football.
12. We need to figure out a way to keep bringing in athletes but we also need to bring in and recruit stud DE/DL guys. I think the last two classes WR, TE, RB, OL, QB, LB, CB we have brought in guys who will change this program around the safety and DL recruiting needs to get better.

Sun came up. Told my three year old son the “Go Irish” lost. He growled and smacked the bedside table and said, “What the heck Go Irish. I can’t believe it.”

Honestly my first thought was it’s good that we’re pissed that we lost. Not so long ago we would’ve been patting the team on the back for competing. We’re getting there, I think. Still stings but I’m going to choose to be positive.

Hard to blame the defense when the offense only scored 14 and nothing in the first half
Agreed that over the course of the game the offense was the under-performer, not the defense. The defense has an issue with giving up long, game-losing drives, though. Marshall, Stanford, this one.

He still sounds like this is to big of a stage for him at times. It’s concerning.
I agree! He doesn’t seem to have the swagger to take control of the game when he needs to. These are the growing pains that Coach Kelly talked about.

A lot had to go wrong for Notre Dame to lose this game, and it did. Freeman and both coordinators were terrible when all they had to be was literally anything less than not terrible.

That said, if we take a step back and look at things from a macro level I think we may need to simply accept this as a growing pain. To be clear, I am not talking about moral victories. F*** that s***. What I'm talking about is the reality of the situation which is this: we hired a completely green head coach who really didn't even have much coordinating experience. And we're not talking about learning the job at the FCS level or even G5. We're talking about learning the job on the biggest stage, under the brightest lights, Notre dame.

I think we can safely say that this team is better than it was last year. We have seen Freeman correct the mistakes from then. That's called progress. And it sure as hell beats watching Brian Kelly Make the same mistakes year in and year out for the majority of 10+ seasons. It's very promising when viewed through that lens.

Last night I made a post, sort of tongue-in-cheek, asking when we would stop Clemsoning. But now that I think about it, I think we might very well be well ahead of schedule. Swinney was hired halfway through the 2008 season. Clemson didn't win their first ACC title under him until 3 years later. It wasn't until another 5 years after that that they won their first national championship. Every year they got a little bit better under him, and every year there were some head scratchers. But bottom line - the team and the program kept getting better each and every year until finally they landed a few elite quarterbacks in a row. Sound familiar?

What happened last night is unforgivable. I'm sure Freeman, of all people, would admit as much. I'm also sure that we will probably never see anything like that happen so long as he is at the helm again. Last night was a gut punch, but let's see how we come out next week. If Freeman can channel this and refocus the team I could see the season ending very well. A chance of redemption against the USC. A chance to show that last year's game against Clemson wasn't an anomaly. Maybe even a chance to get that "NY6" bowl game monkey off our back. Who knows. I just want to continue to see progress. I'll take the lessons learned along the way so long as the trajectory is up...

we’ll learn a lot about freeman next week. A dominant win and we can start thinking about playoffs again and talk about how he quickly improves and fixes mistakes

Or the complete opposite, a loss, and this season is in Jeopardy of spiraling, and we’ll most likely know he won’t be “it”. Can’t lose 2 games in a row 2 years in a row in season.

We’re not set up to be as good as this year over the next two years, saving grace will probably be an easier schedule though

You could tell in his answers during the post game press conference, he wasn’t trying to throw any coaches or players under the bus but he seemed absolutely miffed at his staff. Mentioned something about being disappointed at the lack of pressure against McCord.

If they come out and wax Duke, confidence will be lifted. I’ll be overseas on business this week so will be a nice break to not think about this.

Morning after thoughts: ND is SOFT

1. Hartman lost two 4th Downs. On 4th down you have to make sure. First drive you gotta know where the ball is and can’t be afraid of contact there. Second he seem scared to just drive into the line and bounced all over. Soft and not smart.

2. Run the damn ball. We left them with time AND a timeout. Coaching was awful but the execution was even worse. ND dropped a potential game ender but OSU guy dropped a screen pass.

3. DLine looked awful and pass rush was awful. Even when they got there McCord was able to stay up and throw the ball away.

4. Can’t tackle. Like historically bad and almost leading the NCAA in missed tackles is the epitome of soft.

5. 10 guys on the field. No excuse. I’d rather Freeman say they didn’t know but he did. Just makes it sting more.

6. They need to play angry. They need take a page from Deion and just get offended the other team showed up. No flash, no fight… not saying go all in on the Deion model but his kids aren’t soft.

7. Hartman ain’t it. He’s above average and what we thought we needed to win these types of games. He needs more swagger and confidence and a chip on his shoulder. He’s just going through the motions.

8. Estime. He’s great. Too many twinkle toes moments. He’s a bruiser that hesitates and thinks he’s Barry Sanders sometimes.

ND historically loses these games. They did what I thought they would. 💔

Freeman must got for it on fourth because he knows his kicker is 50/50.

Huge leg but just can make kicks. Even though he struggles to get the ball in the end zone consistently. I have no faith in the kicking game at this point.

One last thought I think ND needs to go portalling for a QB I don’t thing Angeli or Minchey are gonna be ready we need a gun slinger whose a dual threat
Wow what an insight. But perhaps ND needs to go to the Portal for a Coaching Staff that can have a full team on the field at the end of the game too....
