5 star G Cole Anthony releases top four with ND in it. UNC, Georgetown and Oregon. UNC is believed to favorite

Well here was the graphic from his top 6 announcement. Miami was eliminated first, then Wake Forest. I guess we are next. LOL

So Jaiden Ivey, the kid that goes to school 10 minutes from Notre Dame and his mom an assistant coach for Muffet, just committed to Purdue. I’m REAL close to just totally giving up on Brey when it comes to recruiting. The more I think about it, the more I’m realizing that the 2018 class was a damn miracle and I’m wondering if a bag man had to get involved.

This recruitment was served on a silver platter for Brey to hit out of the park but he decided to piss it away like every other recruitment. This is unacceptable on just about every level.

Hunter Dickinson? Forget about it. If you can’t land a kid that grew up around your program then who can you recruit?

#NotCommitted - sounds like they hit it out of the park...

ND just landed Cormac Ryan a transfer from Stanford. A much needed recruiting win. Talented 6-5 guard/wing from NYC metro area who can shoot (at least based on his HS performance).

Don't think he's going to be eligible for the upcoming season. 3 years of eligibility remain.

Yup great pickup for Brey. Like you said not gonna play this upcoming year but will have 3 years on the team. Have him sit this year and develop more and learn the system more. Sounds good to me

At this point, Brey just needs bodies. I’m confident he can coach them up but they’re having the dambdest time recruiting enough guys. They’ll now have 11 scholarship guys, 10 available to play, and two of those coming off season-ending major surgeries. Gotta hope the 10 guys stay healthy throughout the year. Hopefully the 2020 class can grab 6 guys to get to a full roster but I don’t think that’ll be possible unless new offers go out.

There is a pretty easy fix to Brey and recruiting.

1.) He needs to try harder.

2.) Build a wall around Northern Indiana. Trey Galloway from Culver is probably going to IU. Also lets not forget Brey let Jaden Ivey from Mishawaka get away; that was an absolute joke of a recruiting job.

3.) Brey needs to cast a wider net. I don't mind him going after big fish, but lately that is all he's been after. It worked in the 2018 class, but it hasn't worked in literally every other class.

Wider net should be the top thing. Brey trying harder just isn’t gonna happen in year 33 in college basketball. What he needs is a strong staff around him in recruiting and good evaluators of talent. What they also need is to find ND-types around the country who are high academic kids and get them interested in ND. They’re competing with Harvard, Virginia, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern for some of the super high academic kids. They need to continue the New England pipeline as that’s an area that could be fruitful to them. The main thing is they need to make sure they’re always at or around 13 scholarships for more long term players in their program. They need to cast a wide net and not be afraid of taking some lower 4 stars and maybe 3 stars with potential. They’ve got 5-6 to take in the 2020 class to have a full roster so it’ll be interesting to monitor this summer and early fall.

He needs to change his philosophy re how big a roster to have. And it looks like he may finally be doing that as he is still looking to add this late. He's always had less than the max of 13, as guys who don't play will leave. That's true, but nowadays guys who DO play leave too, and you have to replace them. Matt Ryan and DJ Harvey are examples.

I think he is banking on transfers to fill out the roster - they HAVE to sit a year which takes off playing time pressure and their first year of eligibility is essentially as a true junior (or older) for more physically mature presence.

Ryan is a big help but this recruiting cycle is still a bad joke.

This may not be easy, but winning will also help recruiting.

Latest recruit visit for Brey; Austin Hutcherson, a 6-6 175 (!) wing from a Division 3 school, Wesleyan (Conn). Visited this week.

I guess Brey should be commended for not giving up on what has been an empty cycle but its hard to imagine that a D 3 guy will be much of an upgrade from what we have.

Kudos to Brey for looking outside the box. Report (from SBT beat writer) didn't say if he's eligible immediately.

I think if you're transferring from D3 you're immediately eligible? Not 100% sure tho.

If you go up divisions, you need to sit out to adjust to the academic rigors and training schedule (that’s actually what they told my teammate lol). If you transfer down you can be immediately eligible cause everything’s way easier apparently haha.

I don’t know if that’s actually true.

Honestly, good for Brey.

Take in a kid that he thinks deserves a second chance. He knows he won’t be able to recruit 5 better guys in the next class compared to a division 3 steal that I’m sure they elevated closely, right.

Check this guy out though. He looks pretty good. Obviously is playing above his league. I’d take him from the first 2 mins of this tape.

The academic rigors was a hilarious mistake that the NCAA office definitely made when speaking to Duncan cause that’s definitely not an appropriate explanation cause being a student at Williams vs a scholarship bball player at Michigan majoring in Pottery is not even close or comparable in difficulty. But the sitting out a year when transferring up is a thing and transferring down is immediate eligibility is a thing too. If you don’t believe it then that’s okay. My teammate did it and I attempted it for my 5th year before deciding to stay.

Also as far as Hutcherson goes, you’re getting a 40% 3pt shooter who’s a bouncy 6’5”-6’6” who could put good weight on in his redshirt year. Seems like a no brainer add him. He won’t have a problem with the academics and won’t be an issue in terms of being a 13th scholarship guy cause it’s not like Brey is taking away some guys scholarship when he recruits under the limit almost all of the time.

I guess you're right. He's also visiting Creighton, Illinois, and Marquette on this trip. They all can't be vanity trips, somebody must be seeing something here.

He has two years of elig. has to sit next year.

I realized that that was only his freshman tape too. There’s a sophomore tape on the Tube, also.

Obviously it’s quite hard to tell given the competition but he looks like a player Brey doesn’t normally get, outside of his 3-point shooting capability.

Interesting player that I hope the Irish can land.

Also, real no good time or place for this (don't believe the new season's thread has been created)

Rex's mom passed away from brain cancer a few days ago. Thought's and prayers to the family. I've never met him or his family, but I have friends that have and per beat writers, it sounds like she was an amazing person and a great family.

Hate to say it but these are bread and butter Brey guys. Stop shopping down the Top 50 aisle and build your team off of the 100-250 crowd. Don't ignore the Top 50 but don't bank on it.
