I may have missed it, but I have not heard an official announcement from the Vikings. Although many reporters are assuming it to be true, as recently as yesterday an article referred to O'Connell as "expected to be hired" as the Vikings head coach.I will be pumped if Golden is the new DC/LB coach.
My concern though, is that O'Connell has been announced, for a while now, as the new head coach of the Vikings. Why can't Golden be announced? He's had the same opportunities to interview as O'Connell, and Cincinnati to to South Bend is a hell of a lot closer than LA to Minneapolis. If he can't be announced because he hasn't actually been ok'd/interviewed/approved or even consented on his part, then it seems like MF (and us) are counting our eggs before they've hatched. If everything has to wait until after the Super Bowl, then Golden seems like he could very much so be a free agent and considering all options on the table for him. If that's the case, then it could be ND DC vs. multiple other opportunities for himself, or put another way, ND vs. the field.
Maybe I'm missing something or am overthinking things. But the optics of this don't seem to indicate it's anywhere close to a foregone conclusion that Golden will be the next DC at ND.
