Rees and McVay crossed paths in Washington, his week-long stint on their practice squad.
lol it was a try out and if i remember correctly they werent happy with Rees because he was so bad/inaccurate they couldn't evaluate the WR's they had working out

Sampson and Fortuna reported on their podcast that Rees is well respected by the Rams' staff and that McVay has a "man crush" on him. They wouldn't be surprised if he was on McVay's radar.

Do we have to say it out loud that the beat could be fluffing Rees’ resume a bit?

That was the first thing my cynical brain went to. Freeman or whoever encouraged people to play it up to help recruiting guys like Dante Moore. "Hey you know McVay wanted Tommy right?"

I think that would have greater credibility if it were the local guys, but the love has come from Orlovsky and Fortuna, neither of which would really have reason to do that.

There was also another national podcast some weeks ago where I think it was either Pete Thamel or Dan Wetzel mentioned how Rees "has done great work as the offensive coordinator there. His record as a playcaller is preposterously ridiculous." This was mentioned in regards to our HC search.

I swear to God if Harbaugh blowing an interview with the Vikings somehow === Rees to the Rams I will lose my fucking mind. How on earth does McVay have a "man crush" on Tommy Rees? When have they even crossed paths?
Wouldn't surprise me if McVay thinks highly of Tommy. The problem is we are looking at this from a totally different prism. These guys don't live in a vacuum isolated in their own little world. College coaches talk to the pros and vice versa all the time. We all know the offenses the pros are adapting came from the college ranks. Lots of good coaches in college that are qualified to coach in the NFL. The difference is the quality of player each is working with.

Fortuna is still one foot in and out of being beat versus national. Orlovsky just likes to talk about anything, he said Caleb Williams should consider ND. He’s a daytime football host. Not saying McVay isn’t aware of Rees, just not also disregarding other possible reasons it’s being entertained, or at least not shot down.

he said CW should consider ND purely because of Rees though

The current Rams OC just got landed a head job in the league. Guys touching/under/associated with Shanahan and McVay have done quite well with their careers. Rees going to work for McVay, even if he isn't technically calling the plays, would be good for his career.

Rees was going to have to leave the Burnt Ends shadow for career development anyway. The pro route was probably more likely anyway, as he could still get "promoted" without getting a head gig yet (he's only 29). Working with somebody like Shanahan/McVay/LaFleur seemed like perhaps the best way to broaden his expanse, hone his chops, and move on from ND OC without having to either make a lateral move or take a HC job at a crappy program. If Rees were to work for McVay for 2-3 years and do well, he would probably be able to pick his next job- at the ncaa or nfl level.

Just my two cents, I believe MF or possibly Swarbrick maybe both believe they can win a natty in the not to distant future. This is what kept Rees from LSU. This will keep him at ND for the next few years (unless the wheels fall off).

I’m pretty sure they said Dan Orlovsky has a “man crush” on Rees but that McVey & Rees are familiar with each other.

That would be quite different haha. Anyone have the exact quote or know what time of the pod it was at?

Can't look it up right this second, but on The Shamrock, it was said that McVey has the man crush

Correction: I was wrong it was McVey. Fortuna had just mentioned Orlovsky and I conflated the two. My bad.

Sampson @ 6 min mark: “McVey & Rees have a professional connection. They know each other and Rees is respected on that staff”

Fortuna @ 3:55 mark: “Sean McVey has a man crush on Tommy Rees.”

Sir, I have it on good authority by a few Irish armchair QBs that Rees is garbage and should have been let go. I will not have you besmirch their good name! What do these so called professionals know anyway?

The carousel, it never ends. It goes round, and round, and round...
I seriously doubt Rees leaves to join Cristobal though. Miami has been a dumpster fire and Rees is setup really well with last year's freshman class.

Rees to LA Rams makes more sense for Rees’ career then Rees to Miami.

At the end of the day, MF is the head man and he’s not going anywhere. Balis is still around. Just brought back Hiestand. Upgraded at ST, WR, and RB coach (assuming he stays). McNulty to Parker may be a wash. The squad is in great shape. Plenty of folks will line up to want that OC gig. Damn near autonomy on the offensive side of the ball. I still don’t think the Rams go for Rees when they have plenty of viable in-house candidates hit if he does go, I’m not worried.

This is why MF should not give any OC autonomy on who their offensive assistants are. The OC can bolt anytime and then you’re left with his picks.

Rees to Miami makes zero sense. If he didn't bolt from ND for the LSU money he sure as shit isn't leaving for lame ass Miami. St. Louis on the other hand...
