Air Raid is all and well when you have QB to match that style. Not sure we do but maybe its part of the future plan. MF wants Rees successor on the staff now?

Parker has a lot more non-Air Raid experience than Air Raid. Not sure why so many people think Parker = Air Raid.

Also, he's going to be the TE coach. Perhaps the least important position coach on the team. He's not the new OC implementing his new offense.

Mayer needs to be on the field 95% or more of the time.

ND always seems to have a TE on the field, even for a running play to block.

Anyone think this was a hurry up hire?

In terms this being hurry up hire. I think McNulty was probably being a class guy and keeping the staff informed the direction things were headed. If he handled this anything like Elston then Freeman/ Rees knew about this a week ago. They've probably had discussed candidates and had phone calls before it was even official.

Having 1 interview doesn't mean they didn't talk to just 1 person.

Pfft, Sully knew a month ago.

I understand that coaches can coach different positions and it’s no that uncommon. But why hasn’t he coached righted ends since the 13-14season?

FWIW, based on Sampson's most recent article Rees was the prime mover behind the other offensive assistant hires.

Obviously, it didn't have anything to say about the process behind this latest hiring.

My 2 cents is maybe because WR coach is a better gig than TE coach- more pay, more opportunities, etc. I don't take his move away from coaching TE's as a slight against him.

All they've done is hire a TE coach.

Pretty much what I was going to post. I don't understand all of the assumptions being made here. Parker was with Neal Brown for two years at WVU and isn't coming in as an OC. He's coming to coach TE at ND with Rees as OC. That's it.

I like the way you think about things sir. You and I were both high on Doug Belk but have come around to Al Golden.

I tend to agree with you more than I disagree.

Which is why they'll hire Chris Ash.

Mason and Parker. That's two.

Hiestand is a known quantity, Stuckey by all accounts is an all around superior human, McCullough is a bat flip home run, Parker was at Purdue with Freeman and Mason at UC.

They snagged Al Washington fast before anyone else could. We don't know who the DC is yet, most likely Al Golden.

This isn't Grand Valley State South under Kelly by any stretch, or am I missing something with the other guys?

Doesn't Washington also get added to the list with Mason and Parker? And I'm sure we can do mental gymnastics with the idea, but Rees also qualifies.

Sure. Add Washington and Rees. The first time HC with no network and experience has a network and experience because he's hiring dudes he's worked with before and his friends. We've disproved one theory.

The openings everyone fretted over are being filled and we're fretting over who they're being filled with.

I'm tired, pumpdog. I'm really tired.

BK sneakily hired an awesome staff. It's been gutted and the only guys who remain (MF, Rees) could get almost any open job in their area.

Hopefully MF can build a monster. So far I give him an A-, will be an A if he lands Golden.

Well, if it makes you feel any better BK made a fool of himself grinding on some recruit in a video, and said player picked Alabama.

for those quotes above about why does Parker = Air Raid or similar. sure he doesnt.

But i guess ask yourself this - Did he get the TE job because he has an outstanding history of coaching TEs? No.

So he is here for other reasons. What are they? TBD I suppose.

He was actually the interim head coach after they fired Darrel Hazell. They went 0-6, so maybe that was the "issue," but that's hardly his fault.

Though, per wikipedia, after Purdue he then had a rough stretch in 2017 where he took a job coaching RBs at at Cincy, left a month later for East Carolina, then had a DUI and that offer was rescinded. Landed in some analyst job at Duke, and then became their WR coach the season after that.

Well he was like 0-6 as intern head coach which has zero bearing on how he'll do coaching TEs.

Edit: someone beat me to it.

I was just coming here to post this. My assumption is ND was already aware and this will go on to be official. If it is on Wikipedia it can't be much of a secret to the vetting process.

This DUI was far more recent than the trouble Eric Bienemy got into decades ago, FWIW.

What tight ends from 2012-16 did he screw up so badly?

Wasn't it Brian Kelly who said that they coached special teams collectively as a staff with Booker as coordinator? Notre Dame special teams have been icky even before Kelly.

Scott Booker was a punching bag for the fan base. Never got it then and I don't get it now. Glad he's in the League as a safety coach where hardly anyone even knows who he is.
Both TE and ST struggled while Booker was in charge. Bernie Parmalee made ND the TE U of college football. He left a wealth of talent at the position and it wasn't until Booker was out that the position became a dominant force again. Some coaches don't work at a position. Obviously Booker can coach given what he's doing now, but he was inexperienced coaching TE here and it didn't work. There's a reason he was one of the coaches that wasn't retained after 2016.

Any chance Brian Flores would come to be DC at ND? We should kick the tires.

I’m just surprised ND will allow this with his DUI. That aside, him coaching WRs for most of his career and moving to TE isn’t that big of a deal IMO. He can teach route running to the TE’s. Hiestand can teach them blocking technique.

Tommy has an arrest record as well.

Maybe this is what Alan Pinkett wanted.
