Any chance this any effect on Drayk Bowen? I know baseball was supposedly a big part of his decision. Kinda looks like some the current players aren't feeling good vibes in the near future of ND baseball.
I don’t know if I agree with the current players not having a good vibe. If you look across the college baseball landscape, teams are all having transfers, including those who made the CWS. It’s just the landscape of college athletics.

Got it, I honestly don't follow baseball that much. I just see we lose our coach and then some stud pitchers right after.

Today was the deadline for baseball players to enter the portal with eligibility for next season. Hope Rao is it.

I thought Rao had a decent chance of getting drafted by MLB. If so, transfer is a moot point.

Freeman had a follow up post that Findlay wants to stay at ND and isn't allowing other schools to contact him yet. He had to enter the portal by July 1, which he did, just to keep his options open for next year.

So just waiting out our coaching hire before he makes up his mind? I get it, but that's unsettling. He was such a stud for us, especially in the postseason. Can't lose him.

I haven't seen or read anything about the coaching hire. What is the latest on the interviewing process?

They interviewed Wofford head coach Todd Interdonato. Wofford had a solid year, going 42-16-1.

They're also considering ND pitching coach Chuck Ristano, who was a finalist before they hired Link, and Rich Wallace, ND's hitting coach.

My guess is they go with one of the internal candidates, more than likely Ristano. He's been here 12 years.

More cost efficient and easier logistics.

Interdonato knows how to run a program. He's built Wofford up to a consistent winner. Early to mid forties. Interesting candidate for sure.

I agree on both points. I'm really surprised they haven't interviewed Justin Haire from Campbell. He turned that program into a well oiled machine, making the past two Regionals and they gave Tennessee some fits ahead of our Super Regional match up in Knoxville. Seems like a layup candidate, he's young, experienced, not a Campbell alum, not sure what's going on there. Haven't heard a peep on ND reaching out to his camp.

Haire was the name that immediately came to my mind when the FSU job opened and you started to mentally prepare for the inevitability that Jarrett was going home.

Haire is a guy I was really hoping ND would reach out to. Interdonato is, to me, a candidate with similar qualities, though.

I hope ND doesn't look for their next Link Jarrett- they had him & he is gone unfortunately; I would be OK with an internal hire.

I thought they were also looking at the Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy.

I hope they have a hire soon.

Saw where the four finalists are the Wofford guy, Ristiano, Murphy and VCU’s coach.

Can’t see Murphy returning to the college game. He’s got a good gig now w/ Counsell that doesn’t require begging kids & their parents to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to come play baseball in a cold weather climate.

IIRC, Murphy is a South Bend native but he still left there for the ASU job so I doubt he’s dreaming of heading back home.

My guess is that Haire (& his agent) know that he can attract a better job at a baseball friendly locale sooner rather than later. If he went to ND, he may only be there a few years before moving on so he could be biding his time as he looks for a destination gig.

Shawn Stiffler (American Pie references inbound) fits the bill. He's been excellent at VCU for over a decade. Early forties, back to back regionals coming off of Covid.

He or Interdonato would be great hires.

He’s a finalist which means he’s interviewed which means he has some interest.

All I’m gonna say is, they need to throw the bag at Wallace and keep him around as well regardless of who the head guy is. His recruiting prowess will pay for itself, and the programs he’s been involved with the last few years have been quite successful under his leadership. He’s perfect for ND, and I hope the AD does what’s necessary for him to stick around

Unfortunately Lance couldn’t even run the local community college team in town…
Give him time. He’s trying to build nothing into something.

Lance is different. You hate or love him. Dude took me to 4 World Series, never came one time though. We went to Idaho all those years and he never came once.

We’re sitting on the bus. Ready to beat some ass In Idaho. And Hersh never shows. Our leader just literally doesn’t show. Stick’s us on the airport

That happened all 4 years at Tech. Ultimately got him fired.

But I played on some great teams at Tech
