Pretty obvious already that there are numerous mid major and lower players that could help us. Those schools simply cannot pay guys the way the big football schools can.
We need to make every effort to keep most of our roster happy but if guys do leave we need to get the checkbook out and recruit established players on the smaller schools.
Winning with high school only recruits just doesn’t work any more.
For example most of Siena’s starters have eligibility and are good enough to play for us.

It’s amazing how a 12 beats a 5 darn near every year. Thought Wiscy might get to the second week.

High Point was also closer to an average 14 seed based off pre-portal analytics too.

If that makes any Cheeseheads feel any better

This has been one of the best opening slates of games in recent memories despite any major upsets. VCU-UNC right now is electric

7’0 225+ Estonians aren’t built to play 25 straight minutes. Really inexcusable when you spent most of the half up 15 that Veesaar is this gassed by Hubert Davis. 42 of 45 minutes

But why would anyone with a right mind take money to go be on a losing team? I would rather stay at a tiny little no named school and be competitive instead of going somewhere with a dead program. But I'm not motivated by money.

Incredible choke by UNC. VCU didn’t even play well. Disgusting.
It may be the end for Davis at UNC. No Caleb Wilson but blowing a 19 pt lead in the 2nd half is really bad. A lot of heat he's getting for mismanaging his team's minutes in this one. Other than Caleb Love going crazy a few years ago and lifting UNC to the title game his tenure has been mediocre at a place that doesn't do mediocrity for men's basketball.

I think a lot of younger coaches put a schematic whipping on some older dogs yesterday. Either the coach is washed or the spoiled NIL era team doesn’t take to coaching.

Georgia looked like they didn’t spend 1 minute on prep for SLU. Schertz runs an offense. You need to prepare for plays.

Bucky Ball made Bennett look overmatched yet again.

Martelli Jr’s depth won out as Hubert Davis shot himself in the foot repeatedly.

One of the only “vet” jobs I thought won out was Sean Miller basically said Dybantsa can score 50 we’re gonna stop everyone else until crunch time finally helping. That game wasn’t as close as the score.

Agreed. I watched the firs 8 minutes of the SLU game and knew it was going to be a blow out. SLU was prepared and knew how to exploit their defense. Gerogia was trying to masquerade as an NBA team but without any players close to NBA potential.

Who do we like today? I like Miami-OH to at least keep it close. Akron seems like a popular upset pick given Bama's drama. T Tech also has question marks but I think they limp through. Is Santa Clara that good or KY that unreliable to make that line?

I went 6-2 on spread picks yesterday and here's what I'm on today:

1. Santa Clara +3.5
2. Akron +7.5
3. Long Island +31.5
4. Hofstra +12.5
5. Northern Iowa +10.5
6. Furman +20.5
7. Missouri +1.5

Miami-OH noticeably absent. UNI has high rated defense which IMO should keep it closer than 10. Akron feels like either they win or get rolled dependent on if T Tech shows up or not. Line has moved to 6.5 now - popular upset pick. I like Santa Clara, UNI and Miami-OH to contribute at least two upsets to the day. Hoftra/Akron feel like potential for that 12/13 round of 32 match-up to guarantee a Cinderella to Sweet Sixteen. Drama on both higher seeds losing top players, early tip off - we will see soon.

Davis signed an extension through 2029–30 and would be expensive to buy out. This is also the program that values Carolina ties and Tar Heel "family" culture, evidenced by their hiring of Matt Doherty, Roy Williams and....Hubert Davis. Roy was a former player and long time assistant but had Kansas on his resume where he'd already won. A lot.

I never understood it. Even as a former player and long time assistant to Roy, Davis had never been a head coach before and UNC Basketball is a huge job. Dean and Roy set an incredibly high bar here. Hiring former players should not be as important as it is to some people. I seriously don't get it. Feels like a very outdated mindset and hiring practice. Roy was a Tar Heel, but he also busted chops at Kansas before going to UNC and that wasn't the first time the job was offered to him.

I think Davis gets one more year, but if it falls apart and they pull the plug, they will be under serious pressure to get this right. Scheyer (ironically, a former player and assistant at Duke) isn't even 40 yet and he's already stacking his resume at Duke. You better believe UNC notices. It might be find the right guy time for UNC, and if that means someone with our UNC ties, go hire that guy if he's going to get you back.

Greed. Necessity. Desperation.

Maybe you're not motivated by money, but if you look around, quite a lot of people are. For that, many of them do incredibly dumb, awful and in some cases immoral and evil shit for money.

So if you offer the average dude more money that he's got to play on a 13-18 team, you might be surprised at who takes the cash. I personally wouldn't be surprised, but that's just me.

Long Island looked great at the number yesterday ; but with Duke's scare and Michigan was a 4 point game a few minutes into the 2nd half; I fell like Arizona's coaches were handed some good talking points and they could lay waste to Long Island. Still a huge #

What? You don’t think someone from Piss Stain U wouldn’t take a raise, and the chance to go to ND because of the lack of success?
