I've said for the longest time that they need auditors undercover at schools and that's the only way anything will ever get remotely cleaned up. This is a step in the right direction.

Is it an NCAA thing, or an IMG thing though?

If the NCAA is gonna start waging guerrilla warfare on rogue coaches breaking the rules, that's cool.

But if they're cracking down on IMG simply because they've heard of consistent "bump" problems there or something of the sort, I don't know if I'd have faith that they'll keep cracking down.

Seems that the tweet you linked has been swept from the interwebz.

Based on the thread title alone... no.

Based on the thread title alone... no.

Basically, 5 coaches got busted undercover NCAA staff at IMG for breaking the bump rule. NCAA had them pretend to be parents watching practice.

Basically, the bump rule is the dumbest thing ever. It means you're not allowed to have more of a conversation than "hello, I can't talk to you" with a recruit during this period... yet you flew all the way out there to evaluate them. It's broken all the time by pretty much all coaches, the only question is how and to what degree. Usually it's just a meeting in the coach's office after practice.

The bump rule is not what they should be policing, but the fact that they're policing at all is a good thing.

EDIT: WHELP

Wait. So this week with the staff going on visits, would they be violating this bump rule?

No, you can visit, but it's only supposed to be for evaluation. You're not supposed to be recruiting in person. The "bump" rule is that you're allowed to bump into someone and say hi but nothing more than exchanging pleasantries.

Thanks, reps heading your way.

Like when Saban was in LA for vacation or something and just happened to bump into a recruit.

NCAA can stop the cheating, just lay down the death penalty for every infraction, small or large. Like the Singapore answer to drugs, DEATH. There drug usage, sales, etc.. has drastically been diminishing.

Coaches will always weight opportunity costs of getting caught and the rewards definitely outweigh the risk. At this point, getting caught for a coach means very little to the possible rewards incentives.
