My Marathon Weekend

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I would be running the Sunburst Marathon on June 2 at South Bend. I am very proud to say that I finished my first marathon at a time of 4:28:35. One of the things I am most proud about is that I never had to stop once to walk. The main reason I wanted to run it at South Bend is because everyone got to finish by running through the tunnel out onto the field. What I didn't know is that they would also be calling my name over the loud speaker as I ran onto the field. It was awesome. If you ever want to run a marathon, make the trip to South Bend. It was a very flat course with only 4 or 5 inclines (I wouldn't even call them hills to be honest). about 60% or so takes place along the St. Joseph River and the rest goes through neighborhoods and side streets. It's totally worth it and something that any Notre Dame fan would appreciate. One question a lot of people have been asking is what song was I listening to as I ran onto the field? Simple, I had the score from Rudy (no joke). Thanks to all of those who offered their advice over the last couple of weeks. It really helped.

Congrats man.. You can see a little pain in the face there ha. Great stuff.

A little?!?! I could barely walk when I was done. Actually that face is half pain/joy. I'm not ashamed to admit that when I crossed the finish line a shed a few tears. I was so proud/happy/emotional that I think I went through every human emotion in about 4 seconds.

I believe it man.. If I ran through the ND tunnel after a marathon listening to the Rudy score I'd shed a few too.

Ran my first Sunburst 5k yesterday. Amazing feeling running through the tunnel and onto the field.

Ran my first Sunburst 5k yesterday. Amazing feeling running through the tunnel and onto the field.

But wouldn't it have been finer on artificial turf with a Jumbotron displaying your face (in a grimace that flashed agony, ecstasy, relief and joyous anticipation of "next time") while a state-of-the-art sound system blared your name and stats? I, as a blue hair/gray hair/no hair elder statesman, would be comfortably ensconced in a heated or air-conditioned upper level box sipping a Bloody Mary/Brewski/Martini all the while.

My apology for the intrusion on your moment. I just don't have the strength or resolve to resist an opportunity to have a little tangential fun.

Congratulations!

Congrats man. Today is my one year anniversary and I still have so many great feeling memories of that day. Can't wait to do it again.
