Molnar's Offense/Coaching Part of the Problem?

If anyone had any doubt as to whose offense ND was running, listen to Kelly's PC around the 12 minute mark. Kelly was asked what kind of offense Martin would be running. His brief answer covered a lot of ground. I only listened to the PC once so I didn't write down precise quotes. This isn't exact but the gist:

Martin hasn't worked for 4 different coaches. I taught him this offense so he'll be running mine. There won't be confusion this year.


Going back to my OP I posed a bunch of questions about the readiness of all 4 QBs last year, and if Molnar and Kelly were on the same page. The next exchange further confirrmed to me they weren't.

Asked if any of the QB was pulling away from the others, Kelly noted they were stilling running basic drills. Today they worked on pass plays when the defense dropped 8 and the QBs had to decide to make a throw, run, or throw it away. They were told zero gain is an option. Ball security was paramount. No turnovers. Kelly added that the "We haven't even put in checks yet. Checks are a basic part of the system. Last year we ran too many checks."

Kelly said he simplified the offense for the spring, because Rees would have an advantage over the others if they ran the whole playbook. So, I don't see how his quote confirmed anything about Kelly and Molnar.

No way you can blame Molnar for the offense struggling. All of the blame falls on Kelly. If he doesn't find a reliable QB to run this offense this year he's going to have major problems going forward.

I want to make sure everybody understands that this is nothing personal directed toward "Coach Meyer."

That has to be the most groundless thought I have ever seen put to words on this site. The OC is very responsible for the day to day operation of the offense, therefore the habits they develop.

The qb coach is responsible for the development of the qb's. Both were Molnar.

All the quarterbacks from last year were reliable, they were just not educated and developed properly. We will see this year. It will be just as clear as the fact that you have little knowledge of football.

Molnar just like Martin now are OC in name only. Kelly calls the plays and is very hands on when working with the QB's. I'm quite sure the OC has some input, but Kelly runs the show. Whether the QB's succeeds or fails people will look at Kelly, not the OC.

This debate is silly. Obviously, Kelly is responsible for the offense. He's the CEO of the program. He's responsible for all of it.
That said, there clearly was some distance between him and Molnar over the handling of the offense last year. Generally speaking, you want your head coach and OC on the same page; if they're not, you're asking for trouble. And by trouble, I mean trouble for the OC.
Whether Molnar left on his own or was pushed, the fact is Kelly now has an OC who appears to be on the same page, and basically a whole new offensive staff, and seems to be moving the offense in a different direction. Hopefully, our revamped offense shreds the **** out of 10 or 11 opponents next year and this is not a problem we speak of any longer. But, we'll see.

So, who put Molnar up there? Kelly did. And furthermore, Notre Dame ran a gazillion "check with me" plays, where Kelly changed the original play.

This is Kelly's offense, not Molnar's and not Martins. As for the QB's, Kelly says in his March 30 Press Conference below, "I enjoy coaching those Quarterbacks." So, he coaches them at practice, and he coaches them in the game

It's not my contention that Molnar or Martin don't coach the QB's also. But I believe Kelly is the one who has the most control and influence. I think he's even more involved than Weis was.

Well lets fire Kelly! It was his fault that Rees was a wasnt cutting it, making the wrong reads and has a weak arm with no touch. Its Kellys fault that that Hendrix and Golson didnt have the ability to pick up on a complicated playbook. Its Kelly's fault that Dayne flakes under pressure and forces things. We should have fired Kelly a promoted Molnar!

i dont want to be in this battle all day. I do believe things will be better without Molnar. Is BK perfect?...no but I do believe him and Martin are cut from the same cloth so things will be clearer this yr.
