How many people are forced to resign until the population start thinking this is a joke? Sorry, #ConcernedStudent1950, but you may be ruining your own message.

The whole ordeal is ridiculous. And I find it funny that those out here on IE who defended this mess are nowhere to be found in the thread. Maybe next time something of this magnitude shows up, people will actually take the time to vet it before lives start to get ruined. And maybe next time, our fellow posters will show back up and call for the resignation of those responsible for the mess.

At the end of the story, it says that

This post in no way endorses nor condones what is going on, as I don't have enough info to make a decision one way or the other.

They shouldn't. And the professor should stand his ground on principle. Good for the school if they are actually backing him.

No offense, but what difference does it make if the University accepts his resignation?

I would quit too if I couldn't do my job and had a ridiculous media blowing up my attempt to run a classroom.

I could be wrong but it means that the school won't let him quit. In other words they are standing behind him.

The schools former president didn't get his life "ruined". It's not like he's doing 25 to life in the federal pen or got kicked to skid row. He resigned from one high paying job and will be in line for another in short order. It's more like he has had to deal with some minor inconveniences.

Seriously?

Yeah, seriously. School presidents make hundreds of thousands if not millions a year. He will get another high paying job as soon as he wants one. How the hell does that equate with having ones "life ruined"?

If the President of Mizzou were black, would we be reading this?

So you agree that the kid worth $20 million has nothing to complain about?

I don't know that I defended the "mess," because I've maintained all along that I was not sure I was on board with the way the students were going about having their grievances addressed, but I did disagree with people here who were dismissive of the students' concerns and claimed that they couldn't have felt marginalized because there are enough non-racists on campus to elect a black student to a leadership position and because there are apparently no photos of the poop swastika. I also commend the football players for standing up for something they believe in, while not passing any judgment on the underlying issue. I still feel the same way about all of it. I just stopped posting in and reading this thread because I have other things going on in my life, and I don't care all that much about this compared to most of those other things. Plus these social issues threads are tedious circle jerks. So you wanted someone to "show back up." Here I am, anyways. You're welcome.

I am serious. You think this guy is going to end up selling fruit on the side of the road? Lol.

How much could I pay you to move away from the town you've lived in since the 4th grade, be completely ostracized from your undergraduate university, and be associated with racism until the day that you die? What is your price?

Get out of here with that mess. He got railroaded out from a major university for some cooked up BS.

I already had to move all over the country since I was a kid for economic reasons and dealt with all kids of racist bullshit, so yeah cry me a river. About this guy getting fired. $20 bucks and a twelver would probably suffice. It's amazing how much empathy people have for some temporally displaced rich guy.

I will admit you took the high road on this one... which for "social injustices" is rare for you Rhode.

But the "mess" is just that. And as the days pass... it appears most of it was fabricated. Not going to diminish the fact that there is racism everywhere in some form or fashion. But this was a political witch hunt using race as the motivation. Time we call it what it is... BS.

Many of us who work or plan to work in higher education are extremely concerned about these left-wing manias on campuses. They make functioning universities impossible. "Not being sure" what you think is not really an option.

but I did disagree with people here who were dismissive of the students' concerns and claimed that they couldn't have felt marginalized because there are enough non-racists on campus to elect a black student to a leadership position and because there are apparently no photos of the poop swastika.

Normally, there needs to be evidence of something happening for somebody to get fired because of it. This is especially true in this case because we know that left-wing media hysterias often end up being hoaxes (we don't need to look farther than other ACC members for evidence of that, but it happens all the time on campuses).

I also commend the football players for standing up for something they believe in, while not passing any judgment on the underlying issue.

How can you commend somebody for "standing up for what they believe in" without assessing what they believe in? Communists stand up for things, too.

Tedious circle jerks? There is usually lots of debate on IE politics threads.

So please explain how his life is now "ruined"?

He got railroaded from a major university for erroneous reasons. And if he is lucky he may get back in his profession. I would say his career and his character got ruined for nothing more than fabricated BS with the race card being used as the vehicle.

As far as you, I hope it never happens to you since you obviously seem ok with it.

Minor inconveniences my as*.

If history really does judge this to be much ado about nothing (and I honestly haven't paid enough attention to the details to know if that is the right read or not), then the former President's life will not be ruined. He will get another gig, and probably a good one, despite (if not because) of this situation. If people come to regard it as a big nothing. So I think maybe some people are trying to have it both ways - history will judge this to be BS and a guy will have his life ruined over it. It won't be both.

You're making a bunch of assumptions. This guy is going to have another high paying job in short order and the fact that he resigned so easily proves to me that he knows it. How about we revisit this in a month. If dude is slumming it with Sark then I'll buy into the whole "his life was ruined" nonsense.

You guys have a pretty interesting idea of what equates to having ones life being "ruined".

Let''s hope you don't run in to the same circumstances friend. The point is he shouldn't have to be looking for another job. If you condone what happened with him, then say so. And I will say again... maybe one day something similar happens to you and then maybe you will understand.

And yet we should have empathy for a kid on a hunger strike who comes from a wealthy family. Or a kid who is the SGA president and is spreading false rumors about the KKK, cops, and the national guard? Get out of here with that shi*

And for the record, we all have faced racism so cry me a river buddy. I could tell you stories of reverse racism and discrimination that would blow your freaking mind. I have seen it, been forced to be a part of it during a major facility build, and was forced to make hiring decisions on everything but qualifications and work history. And it isn't one or two positions. It was over 2,000 positions. I don't need you telling me about racial BS.

I'm not condoning anything and yes petty bullshit is a part of any work place and yes I have had to deal with such things. What is rediculous are all the proclomations stating that this guys life is "ruined". It's stupid and redefines what the hell that even means. If I was making the same salary as this dude and got canned for the same reason I would probably go on vacation and then get a bunch of work done around the house.
