You say this in italics yet I'd still wager he had the most to do with that lolBowden is the sole reason for the Six Flags song to get playtime during ND games.

Only time I liked hearing that song is when I was in Fenway and a homer was launched over the MonstahYou say this in italics yet I'd still wager he had the most to do with that lol
Well that sucks. I thought Martin was a part of the rebuilding in Detroit. Why are we bringing him in then?Kudos to Freeman and Bevacqua for making upgrade hires in the offseason. Martin was apart of the rebuild in Detroit and he seems to fit the Notre Dame culture that Freeman is continuing to building. Happy for this hire.

Blanchard may be a great fit at Texas Tech and was worth pursuing. Martin may be a better fit for NDI’m not going to pretend to act like I know anything about Martin (when I saw the name, I immediately thought of the former great FSU baseball coach), but for all intents and purposes, this seems like a great hire.
From a prior post that I read, it appears that the TT guy just throws around a ton of money and judging by their results (in a Texas and Oklahoma-less Big 12, no less), he’s throwing it to the wrong kids.
Admittedly, I was initially harsh on Freeman. Frankly, I thought he was riding Golden and Denbrock’s coattails and didn’t know what he was doing after Marshall, Stanford, the 10 man Ohio State debacle and such. But, while he’s arguably still cutting teeth as a head coach, he seems to be learning and adapting well and he’s got the program in a positive, upward trajectory. He appears to be doing everything right.
He’s building a program and not just random, one-off year teams (like TCU, Kiffin/Ole Miss, Colorado and other “bought” rosters for a year, etc).
I agree. From what I’ve read, Blanchard thrives off of the portal. You’re not building a program off the portal — not at Notre Dame, at least. That would be a 1-year, pay-for-play deal. That’s not what you want. You’re a hamster on the wheel at that point. That’s what the lesser tier schools have to do.Blanchard may be a great fit at Texas Tech and was worth pursuing. @forkbeard3777 I'm also of the opinion that any teams that went portal heavy this winter (LSU, TT, Ole Miss, among others) will be realtively disappointed this year. I felt lie portal classes have gotten weaker over the years.I agree. From what I’ve read, Blanchard thrives off of the portal. I think the portal should be used to plug in players here and there...fill a small gap, not build an entire roster off of. But, every program has its own philosophy…@forkbeard3777 I'm also of the opinion that any teams that went portal heavy this winter (LSU, TT, Ole Miss, among others) will be realtively disappointed this year. Or he’s now a D1 GM at 25 and gets to live in San Diego. Idk about you but I’d choose that life at 25 looking back lolCaleb Davis to SDSU as GM. Assume he wasn’t psyched that we are hiring a new guy over him.

Always.When South Bend?
Striking out on the exciting outside hires, just to promote from within is a classic ND move.
This is unrelated to DPP? Caleb Davis was Director of Recruiting. Auman was Assistant to the GM so this seems more like a reassigning with Bowden gone. I imagine Martin’s right hand would be more scout related.

There are some that felt he was much better than Bowden and should have been in that position already. I think Merk also mentioned something similar in the Ask Merk thread.Striking out on the exciting outside hires, just to promote from within is a classic ND move.
