Torturing and killing animals is psychopathic.

I don't like Vick. Never will. I wouldn't sign him to be on my team. That said, he served time and is a free man. A team can sign him if they want.

*I know, I know...it's Wikipedia...but, that information is right.

I don't think I am considered a "PETA freak", but my love for animals runs pretty deep. I do a ton of volunteer work for the local Humane Society and ASPCA and I love my dogs more than I care for many people (as evidenced by my tattoo shown on my profile page).

Michael Vick's sentence was not nearly long enough, in my opinion. However, there is nothing I can do about that. He has paid his debt to society as was detemined in a court of law and now he should be afforded a chance to resume his life.

The main point that the PETA freaks tend to forget is that Michael Vick is a much stronger advocate against dogfighting as a prominent and successful NFL quarterback than he ever could be rotting in a jail cell. He gives talks in disadvantaged neighborhoods in just about every city he plays in and helps get young inner city kids away from the dogfighting culture. The more successful he is, the more visible he will be, and the more kids he will be able to reach. There are already documented cases of kids completely changing their views on dogfighting based on Michael's lectures.

He has come a long way and has done a lot of work with various animal organizations and has a newfound respect for animals. His voice as a professional athlete is one that is much louder on the field and in the media than it would have been from a jail cell or as a "regular Joe" permanently ousted from the league.

I can't say I root for him, because what he did still makes me sick. However, I think he has become a powerful partner in the fight to end dogfighting and I think he is doing a lot to further a lot of anti-animal cruelty causes.

I love dogs. Have a dog, and what he did is disgusting. With that said, he did real time. He was on KCRW the other day talking about educating kids about dog fighting and animal cruelty. He said some things that seemed genuine and I can forgive him.

Max I wanted to give him was 3 years but watever

The reported years don't mean anything in NFL contracts, other than to prorate the guaranteed money over that number of years for purposes of calculating the salary cap. That figure, combined with actual salary for a given year, determine the "cap number." But if they were to cut him after 3 or 4 years then they don't have to pay him anything else, they just count $5.7M against their cap the next two seasons, although I believe they can accelerate that hit if they have the cap room to absorb the whole thing. It is far more likely they restructure so they can spread the remaining paid but unrealized guaranteed money over a few years.

Philly will never win a Super Bowl with Vick. They won't do it with Young either. Was Kolb the guy, probably not, but if there is one thing I've learned watching the NFL it's you need a QB to stand in and read the defense. Manning, Brees, Brady, Rodgers, and Big Ben. Obviously Rodgers and Big Ben have mobility, but they read the defense first and make good decisions. Newton, Pryor, Vick, and Young are all great athletes, but not Super Bowl winning QBs. So, for Vick to get that deal makes no sense. Just one opinion though. Obviously, PHI front office thinks otherwise.

Are you saying a "running" QB can't win? because I believe Steve Young would disagree

No, I believe I mentioned Rodgers and Big Ben, you can throw in Elway too. There is nothing wrong with mobility and having the ability to run. I'm saying a QB who relies on his legs, will not win. Steve Young and the other Super Bowl Champs went through progressions. If they need/ed to, they would/will make plays with their feet. Vick, Young, and Pryor all look at 1 or 2 guys then are gone. You can run circles around guys in college and be fine, but in the NFL you will get hurt. I think you could look at the many years and see that to be true.

I would agree to an extent that you have to learn to be a QB first and runner second but Vick last year threw much more than he has beofre. He seems to be growing
