This thread is a hoot. They’re the least self-aware fanbase I’ve ever seen 😂
They are the worst "fans" in the sport. Bunch of casuals with unearned arrogance.

Miami may be the only fanbase dumb enough and with little enough football knowledge to make a big deal out of this. National media is nearly universally stating that it clearly wasn’t a catch. I genuinely can’t even believe there’s any controversy around it, in real speed the ball is out nearly instantly.

I was a little shocked the film guy called it a catch.

Then I remembered he's a SEC shill and only pretends to respect our program for the Irish views.

It really is incredible how good a small private university is at curating a gameday atmosphere. While I have minor complaints about music selection, the entire gameday campus experience is something incredibly special. Yesterday afternoon leading up to kick off literally felt like a movie with how perfect the setting was.

If it’s a catch then I fundamentally don’t understand catch rules. Because then you can “catch” the ball anywhere on the field for 1/2 a second and drop the ball and it would be a catch and fumble? No it would be a friggin incompletion. It happening against the sideline in the endzone does not matter!!! AHHH lol

Fantastic night and win. If any of you were in section 23 row 28 we had a blast.
Atmosphere was amazing. Much credit to Miami, that’s a good football team. I thought we missed on a few opportunities to put them away and they would fold but they didn’t.
Everyone knows what the weak part was tonight. Kid tried but they split him out wide on an island and he was just overmatched. He will get better.
Just an all around great game from CJ, Faison, Gilbert, and even Graham made a really tough catch over the middle.
Wanted so badly to get Walton to the edge instead of between the tackles. Don’t matter, we won.
Met Plaxico at the tailgate, and even had Chris Zorich shoulder me on the way out when we hit the exit at the same time. I’d love to call it a stalemate but he won the 1 on 1 battle.
Great win lads. Get healthy and who TF knows. Go Irish!!

Feel better man! Glad you caught it early.

@Irish#1 we need a new like emoji. I've wanted to say prayers, feel better, and condolences a few times today, but none of the current ones felt appropriate.
Thanks man! Yeah I’m glad I caught it early as well. Lesson learned on the bourbon! The antibiotics and steroid should hopefully clear it up

It was really just an amazing day start to finish. They even dialed up pretty perfect weather for early November. It’s like they have an in with the Big Guy or something.

I think part of the trouble is the broadcaster initially described it as a catch and then said it was out of bounds when he saw it ruled incomplete. (Bc it was dropped).

Easy mistake to make in the heat of the moment like that. But if you want to see it as a catch, that call reinforces your instinct.

None of that excuses the people who have watched replays since and still think that was a catch. It clearly was not.

Shoutout for handling player criticism the right way. Everyone understands but it’s not overly detailed or disparaging and ends on a positive note.

Glad you had such a dope gameday experience.

Absolutely electric win. I'll try not to rehash what others have said, but here are a few thoughts:

1) The defense looked so much better. Instead of adjusting to the offense, we were the enforcers, and Miami had to adjust to us. People are saying Miami spent that first half learning to play without Toney, and that may be part of it. But I think they weren’t expecting ND to come out that aggressive, and it threw them off. As we add talent, that has to become our identity: we set the tone and make offenses find answers, not the other way around.

2) We have to find a solution for Zackery. He’s young and may improve, but right now he isn’t ready for serious snaps on a CFP team. We have three weeks to fix it. Kick Gray out and put Golden at nickel. Or kick Gray out, put O’Brien or Talich at nickel, and play the other at safety. Or scheme around him. At minimum, he can never be left alone on an island.

3) Carr had a fantastic game, and we need to build on it. In the middle eight, I thought we’d found ourselves. The defense was aggressive, and the offense was hitting chunk plays over the middle. Then on the drive after Miami's first TD, we threw two fades to the sideline and went three-and-out. Woof. Carr is five times better when he uses the middle of the field. Over the next three games, the goal should be to develop that part of the offense, which should also open up the sideline throws.

4) Freeman needs to tell Denbrock to use true, hard play action seven or eight times a game. Don’t save it for the right moment. We can’t let linebackers lean on their toes before the snap and fire downhill the second they see run action.

A few more thoughts:
  • The run defense played heroically while missing two DTs. Take away the 29-yard run and Miami had 72 yards on 27 carries, mostly from Mensah scrambling.
  • Traore is a man. Losing him was easily a seven-point swing in the BYU game like Freeman said.
  • Overcoming that questionable holding call after the pick was monumental. That’s when I knew we’d win. Even if Miami had tied it 31-31, I was fully confident Carr would get us at least a field goal.

Freeman’s teams often peak in November. Let’s hope this is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to Monday’s injury updates and to preparing for the three “playoff games” left in the regular season.

Will come back with a bunch of takeaways when I'm not traveling for work but I'll say this: South Florida recruits took notice of that game.

Hearing from my people down here that ND's recruiting pitch/presentation is 1 of 1. Multiple unsolicited texts saying they've just got the weekend experience on lock.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. The house that Rockne built was rocking last night- I wish it were like this every home game.
2. The way our defense played makes me wonder if Freeman took over calling plays.
3. Great attitude by KVA on the field.
4. Boubacar has a motor and he is hard to block.
5. When CJ gets protection to pass he makes smart plays.
6. Welcome back with the Carr-Gilbert connection.
7. Give me 11 Luke Talich's on defense, he always gives 110%, and makes big plays.
8. The Irish gave Kaden Henderson a helluva game to flip.
9. Keep going 1-0.

Love thee, Go Irish!!

Just coming back to quickly post this one text I just got from a SFLA high school coach (who gave me permission; two-party consent laws in Florida!):

"Miami tries to sell you what ND presents merely by hosting. Completely different feel of legitimacy. Freeman the perfect representative."

Just have to hope McKinney is able to go come the playoffs. The ISD guys had discussed ND was running a big Nickel package in camp where Talich played LB, and now with all his game experience, I actually think Johnson & Talich are our 2 best safeties. Hopefully we can keep Talich from declaring, having a those 2 with JOB in the nickel would be ideal.
