Ehh for all the bad it seemed - Miami under 4ypc. Good offense under 30 pts. Gotta get to 30 to ensure a top 10 win. Upside is there - haven’t peaked in week 1.

30k foot view - Season opening 3 pt road loss to a top 10 team with a QB making first career start. Not unexpected.

Looking more closely - both our offensive and defensive lines were outplayed. After allowing 3 starting offensive lineman to transfer out. And Ash did nothing to show he can scheme around that disadvantage at Dline. Denbrock calling exclusinvely screens for the first 3 quarters didnt help.

17-6 second half.

This loss is on Ash.

This loss is on Denbrock.

This loss is probably sort of on the OL.

This loss is not on CJ Carr. That boy is the truth.

I see 10-2/11-1. If Chris Ash doesn’t fuck it up. He figured out some stuff 2H.
Regroup. Beat A&M. We were 1-1 after two games last year.

Fuck Miami.

Fuck the ACC.

Make them open with us in South Bend.
How the fuck does Miami keep getting these games? I forget why they just didn’t have to go to Notre Dame last time.

If the INT was indicative of the picks CJ was supposedly throwing in camp, no wonder the staff wasn't worried about it.

Thoughts:

- We came out looking dead. Like a fighter who gets punched in the face and doesn't know what to do
- I don't even know where to begin with the offensive game plan for most of the game. Not pushing the ball down the field, hardly utilizing one of the best players in college football. That interception was so obvious the moment the ball was snapped. I put a ton of blame on Denbrock for this loss
- We were poor up the middle of the defense. I think both the interior D-line and linebackers had a poor showing
- O-line was gassed at the end and it showed.

- I am extremely disappointed in all of the captains and their play. Shuler is to blame for that touchdown right before the end of the half. He looked like he was trying to catch a punt instead of attacking the ball. Pauling wasn't really targeted. Schrauth and Wagner got beat numerous times. Hinish battled but is too small. Bowen seemed to get pushed around

- It's early. We have a QB who is a stud and will battle. I don't think we lose to Texas A&M with the bye

CJ is a big bright spot. If Denbrock didn’t neuter him could’ve been a much different game.
But I mean you sort of get it, right? Dude had taken four (4) total snaps in his career which were handoffs in a 60 point win over Purdue. Yeah maybe thirteen screens were a bit much, but you’ve got to massage things a bit with a brand new fucking 20 year old QB. The training wheels were off in 2H and CJ shined.

Positives:

Qb is going to be fine. Cool head and doesn’t seem to force throws.
The offense seems to find some rhythm in the second half and line play did improve.
Punter and kicker were both an asset.
The receiver core seems much improved.
Didn’t give up and pretty much won the 4th quarter.

Negatives:

Middle of the D line is a problem.
Offensive play calling was far too conservative.
The TE has to do a better job of catching the ball.
This is the only post needed.

Add to the negatives: prevent defense before the half and lack of pressure, specifically on third downs.

-Really surprised at how poorly both lines played.
-Denbrock's performance tonight was malpractice. Honestly, Freeman should fire his ass. Criminal under-utilization of Love and Price.
-Raridon and Hobbs had tough games.
-Carr is going to be AA if he isn't killed first.
-Special Teams played solidly.

The first drive made sense. Get his feet wet. But at some point you have to play to win the game.

For real. Like what are you supposed to do when your captain RT just gets spun around like a top to basically lose you the game?

If you're going to protect the young qb, why not hand the ball off to your all American backfield? Why protect him by throwing every down?

I thought Carr was really impressive.
Miami is a good team - lot of good players.
Beck is really good.
Something seemed off with our defense beyond scheme in the first half… just didn’t have its normal edge.
Would have loved to get Jadarian more touches.
Too many screens.
Need to beat TAMU now.

- The playcalling was horrific.. I get trying to use Love as a decoy here & there but for the entire first half?? Wtf was that. And too many screens..

- Piggy backing off that.. Price showed his big run ability & they ignored him after that. Why weren’t we’re using our two biggest weapons more?

- Ash has not prepared this D.. Stroman looked lost,. Hobbs had a bad night.. The D line is significantly worse besides Traore. Hinish was layed out almost every snap.. What the fuck are we doing? Still sending the blitz & it never gets home. Why can’t we get a wrecker on the D line?

- The O line conditioning was atrocious.. They got beat all night & we’re non existent on the last drive.

- The RS freshman QB that everyone thought was going to be the liability was actually the bright spot. But Denbrock wasted so many plays on foolish dinky screens that we never saw the true potential of this offense with CJ. Maybe he was reacting to his OL being manhandled..

- With all that.. the game was winnable.. The Fields fumble & the fucking INT off the Miami defenders foot really made the difference. Because even with horrible play calling & a porous OL, CJ gutted us into a tie game with 2:00 left. What more can you ask from the kid.

- Freeman needs to right the wrongs fast & get the win at home against A&M. We lose that one & I think this season is a wash.

- Hopefully our donors buy 6-5 320lb D linemen for us next year bc I can’t watch Hinish get tossed around anymore.

One thing I'm certain of Kenny will play this year because they didn't teach CJ how to slide and and he gets hit like a battering ram every time he runs. Dudes going to be sore

The most alarming thing aside from the coordinators coaching scared in this game was the lack of physicality on both sides of the ball. The lines got pushed around all game long. It's a testament to the talent on the team and the fight in the team that they were able to get this game tied late, but they were not physical enough.

Also, how Greathouse and Love could be ignored on offense to the degree that they were was complete malpractice. Denbrock really had a bad night tonight.
