Meyer to Notre Dame

I just cant stand the argument that without a few players (Harvin, Tebow) that Meyer wouldnt be a good coach. Isnt part of coaching going out and getting good players and making them better?

I just dont see how there is any logical argument that Meyer ISNT a good coach. If ND is successful this year wont it be in large part due to Clausen, Tate, Floyd, etc....

In my own opinion, I firmly believe Urban Meyer will one day coach at Notre Dame. But I think it will be years down the road. Because I see us having a good year and Charlie keeping his job for at least another season.

....That said, you might want to rethink (delete) the entire "back when I was single" paragraph....

Please forgive me for my unclear synopsis.

In the course of courting a female, there is a process during you may 'ask her out' a number of times (this could last days, weeks). But there comes a point in the process where it is futile. At that point in the process they are not down with you. If the guy still persists, he will then begin to look desperate. Its time to move on, because there is too many others to get stick on one.

Meyer has said NO to Notre Dame. Its time to move on. Get over it already

It was Grunhard's dream to coach at ND also. His family vetoed a move to South Bend. It's called domestic tranquility, jason. You'll probably have to deal with it some day like most of us.

Yes Meyer had to deal with it, but unlike Gunhard who decided it was best for his family not to move, Meyer moved his family from Utah to Florida as opposed to South Bend to find his domestic tranquility.

"... we play football at Notre Dame not gimmick crap." I imagine words more explicit than "crap" were exclaimed by Army coaches and players to describe Gus Dorias and Knute Rockne's style of play in 1913. The "Rockne Shift" that made "The Four Horsemen" legends was described as a gimmick. College football rules eventually outlawed that gimmick. When Leahy converted the ND attack to the "T-formation" it was called a gimmick. Holtz was accused of instilling a gimmick attack at ND in '86 when he installed the Triple Option on the field where Lujack, Guglielmi, Hanratty, Theismann, and Montana (among others) had made the forward pass an integral part of the ND attack. Funny how ND fans today ridicule Army, Navy, and AF for a gimmick attack but when ND ran the same offense - it was "real" football.

Ok gimmick crap might nothave been the right words, but why would you want to run the spread option. Our personel is desighned to run a pro offense, so we hire Urban and Jimmy leaves to the NFL, and Dayne tranfers, and we have to recruit an entirely differnt type of o-lineman and running back that fits into the offense. So not only do we have to be selective because of our academic standards, but they got to fit our offense as well, which narrows the pool even more. So now we end up like Michigan. Or we can continue to run our offense wich is harder, which means our players need a learning curve that explains the last two seasons, and can contnue to recruit like we have been, and put guys in the NFL as well as give them a degree from Notre Dame.

Okay, im just gonna be another person to say this is a ridiculous comparison. And Even if your going off of this, i would say Meyer said no once because he was already committed to another school (meyers words "ND offered when i was already in the final hour with Florida.")..... not exactly the right time to ask him out on a date huh?

Charlie is a great guy and i hope he and the irish kick ass this year..... if not, move on to a better coach..... We have the talent, we have the experience, do we have the coaching? That is the question.

Why would Dayne transfer? Why would our offensive line need to be recruited differently? Meyer and Charlie recruit so many of the same O-lineman its uncanny. It may take a year for the learning curve your right on that, but in no way would we wind up like michigan (Meyer has never had a losing season, ever).....DickRod and Meyer run different styles of the spread with different kinds of players.

That is true about there spreads being different. Rod is desperately trying to get that dual threat guy in there @ Michigan. Meyer alters his playcalling depending upon who he has at the QB position.

its seems that some ppl think only Urban Meyer can coach this team....

(back when I was single) I would only ask a female once, if she turned me down, i was off to the next one. there are too many out there to get stuck on one. especially one that isnt down with you. Then, when one of those see you out with another female, all of sudden they want to come back -- F' them. they had their shot and choose to piss it off.

and Urban Meyer had his shot too. It was back in 2004/2005 (or whenever weis was hired) that was his time at ND, and he choose to pissed it off, so F' him.

For Notre Dame to go after Urban Meyer now (again, after he already spurned them) makes them look desperate......like a battered woman who keeps going back to her abuser.

Heysus, I don't appreciate using my post as a segway to your 'some people' post. I am not one of those people, and I want Charlie to be our coach for as long as he wants to be here and is successful. But do you really think we would not court him if this team goes something like 7-5 this year? It would be foolish not to.

I know I havent posted much on here lately but I will break it down just like I always do. I tell it like it is and if you dont like it ya'll can kiss my ass. lol
Urban Meyer is hands down the BEST college football coach in the country. I know alot of you dont like him because he turned us down (boo hoo boo hoo) GET OVER IT!!!!!! Urban Meyer is just as much a Notre Dame guy as Charlie Weis is. Weis is hands down just not a good coach. He will fail here yet again probly this season and Urban will be our coach SOON! Get over it people, its just going to happen. Do I want to see Charlie Weis fail? No of course not, he's just set up to do so. Expect to lose 2-3 games every year as long as we have him. Sorry, Just telling you like it is. I EXPECT great things this year but dont we all every year?

NDOM you are so wrong its not even funny. And I am not just talking about the wins and losses. Charlie Weis gets ND. Urban Meyer does not.

i want a pledge from all those in the anti-meyer camp as to how long you will hold your bias against him if he is hired. my guess is the vast majority will change their tune as soon he steps up to the podium.

i want Weis to succeed just as much as anyone else, but taking this hardline stance against meyer only sets you up to look like a complete fool down the road.

Echo I...I would love to have Urban at ND but there is a reason why he chose UF over ND...he did that!!!

He did it because ND would not accept jc transfers and he was told that he would get 6 players admitted EVERY year REGARDLESS of there academic background...REGARDLESS of their academic background...not shaky, not sub-average....REGARDLESS...after 5 years he can have 30 illiterates running around...obviously that is not happening at ND...

I just don't see him coming to South Bend to deal with academic issues.

Yes Rich Rod and Meyer run different styles, but you still need a quarterback who is a threat to run, which Dayne is not. You need more athletic and usually smaller linemen who can work in space. They don'y recruit many ofthe same o-lineman, they recruit some ofthe same o-lineman, usually the top-tier lineman, but not many.

2 NC's yes but half his team would not even make it into notre dame. I do not think he would be able to recruit half as well as Weis' staff when he has to look at grades first!!!! A LOT easier to recruit Florda players in Florda with no strict grade standards!!!

Reckon any of the Florida players can even spell Florida? I bet they can. Not all programs can match up with the Irish academically but some programs have some pretty good kids. We aint the Harvard of college football. Harvard is. Talk about a program and its recruiting, at least spell it right.

I should not post anything before my first cup of coffee. Never said we were Harvard...our academic standards are higher then Florida’s, right? How many kids that commit to Florida do we not even offer because of their academics? This is a message board...worry less about spelling and make a damn point!

Hmmm...I sure hope ND wouldnt go after him. Why him? are there no other coaches out there??? They should have learned their lesson with that snake before. When the fired Willingham, thinking they had their man, and then Meyer said thanks, but no thanks. Then ND was left with a fired coach, and no one to coach the team.

If Meyer were to come to ND, it would be the FLA situation all over. A program built up by another coaching staff, and then he comes in to captain the ship. That is his method of operation, I can see why he would want to come to ND now, they are on the cusp of a winning season. All of the hard work is done, or being done, he can come in and start taking credit for all the wins. George Seifert-style.

Look at Michigan, do you think Rich Rodriguez, just because he had success at West Virigina is going to have success at Michigan?(its the same equation as the meyer situation) If Rich Rodriguez becomes available are you going to want him too? How about Pete Carroll, would you want him too if he is available? he was won multiple NC's??

There is something to be said about Loyalty, I'm sticking with Weis.

You want ppl to pledge to a hypothetical question??

How about a pledge from all of the Weis-haters, that you'll show some loyalty and respect and back the coach that is currently in position?? Can you do that? I know its way harder to do, then to bash him. Its real easy to join the likes of Mark May and USC alums to bash him, alot harder to stand with the man while he is taking fire.

still waiting on someone to tell me specifically why Meyer is a good coach.....what would be his biggest, most immediate impact? What would he do, specifically, better than Weis? This is your time Meyer-supporters to state your case, make me a believer....

Is your argument that UM is not a good coach or is your argument to UM apologists entails the question of 'Why do you think UM is good for Notre Dame?'

ex:
You may determine why Randy Moss isn't a good fit for your team due to attitude or what have you but to say he isn't a good reciever isn't a good argument...

My point is, there are many programs out there that have exceptional student/athletes (Tebow for instance) and it is not fair to them to call them inferior.

Plus if I were to make comments about a schools "academic standards" I would make damn sure I spelled the name of the school right. Typing errors are one thing but 2 times is not a typo. You went back and edited it and still got it wrong.

Ok, first of all I would personally love to see Meyer come to ND. He is a proven winning coach WHEREVER he goes. Everyone talks about how the Florida players that he has couldnt get into ND. Which I would agree with, but dumb people are not the only good players in college football. Notre Dame has talent and Meyer would succeed as the coach of the Irish.

Another thing people say is that "Well Weis gets Notre Dame, Meyer does not". Ok would you rather have a guy that went to Notre Dame and is a die-hard fan (Weis), but cannot win the big games and not have us in the BCS games every year. OR would you want a proven winning coach(Meyer) that WILL win, even though he isnt the coach every ND fan wants in there?

To me that is a easy question. I would take Meyer hands down. Its FOOTBALL!!!! As long as he WINS THE GAMES and has no NCAA violations, then who gives a shit?

Take your pick.

Okay. Never had a losing season. One of the winningest coaches in college football today percentage wise. Turned every single program, BG Utah then Florida from medicore programs at best to top flight programs in college football. Great recruiter, some would say just as good as charlie.

ND reasons..... devote catholic, family man, players believe in him....... had a HS coach who played for him, said he would run through a brick wall for the guy.....this after he kicked him out of practice the first day. (Chad Long, started 3 years as a safety at BG, including Meyers 1st year there.....the went from 3-8, to 8-3.....biggest turn around in college football that year.)

The number one main reason he would be a good coach, he wins games, BIG games, charlie hasnt proven he can.... really hasnt even proven he can against crappy teams to be honest (Navy, Syracuse, Air Force anyone?)

You have no logic in your arguement. I and everyone on this board hopes that charlie and the staff kick ass, but if they dont THIS YEAR, something has to change, no excuses, no saying hes a great recruiter so lets just keep him for that. Eff that, i want a winner.

Dayne averaged 7 yards a carry in HS, and he sure as hell can run better than Jimmy...... maybe thats the reason many of you dont want Meyer here, the thought of JC not starting is just too much to bear.

at least 3 starters on the O-line along with other non-starters on the O-line had florida offers from Meyers staff..... he would make due with what he inherited, just like at the others schools he turned around.

My argument is twofold and concise.
1. UM already spurned ND.
2. ND has a current coach.

I never said he wasnt a good coach, maybe he is, maybe he is not. But that has never been my point.

I'm a very loyal person, I'm loyal with my friends, my family, my girlfriend, and loyal to things I like such as Notre Dame. I'm not talking about my friends behind their back, I'm not going after woman behind my GF's back, and my family knows what they have in me and I'm for damn sure not going to go behind Weis' back and calling for Meyer.

For me, its about Loyalty

Who the hell did he beat while at Utah?? f'n Utah St? BYU? New Mexico St. Lobos?? Wyoming Cowboys?? Do any teams on Utah's schedule count as a 'BIG game?' So he took at crappy team, in a crappy conference to a BCS game and won, BFD..He had a QB that dominated lesser talent. so are you going to want the coach from Boise St. and South FLorida too ?? Kansas St. had a surge in the late '90's/early 2000's do you want that coach too?

If he recruited the same players he got at Utah, at Notre Dame are you saying that ND would win too? is it that easy? Ty thought so, he got the same recruits at ND that he got at Stanford (and we know where that ended up) It ended with Weis picking up the pieces holding the bag.

He took FLA, an already established juggernaut school, to some NC's? Lets see him take a school with triple digit ranking in offense and defense and see what he can do with that team. I guess we'll never see that, because front runner Meyer will only slide into a program that is ready to win. (Like ND now)

I and everyone on this board hopes that charlie and the staff kick ass, but if they dont THIS YEAR, something has to change, no excuses, no saying hes a great recruiter so lets just keep him for that. Eff that, i want a winner.

You really know how to support your team....I will say this tho, at least in this paragraph you werent gushing about Urban Meyer like he was your boyfriend.

bottomline...F*ck Urban Meyer and the horse he rode in on.

Florida wasn't a bad team. Zook was always a good recruiter. The reason Meyer chose Florida was because he saw the mess the Irish roster was behind the great 2002 recruitng class. He did not want to have to rebuild a program.
