She's everybody's clickbait right now. I feel bad for her in that regard.

From a competitive standpoint, she's driving a lot of attention to the sport and that is good for everyone. With that comes the target on her back. These veterans are going to come right at her, some more aggressively than others it seems. She needs to get stronger and she's going to have to adapt her game to being with pros now.

From a media standpoint, she's going to get used to drive traffic and clicks. There isn't anything she can really do about it. The guys like MacAfee will throw the red meat out until people stop eating. There don't appear to be any signs it will stop since she's one month into her rookie season.
This is the sad part. Not just for Clark but for Angel Reese & others. It has very little to do w/ their talent. It’s more about framing it in a decisive way. The “hot take” machines are nauseating but it‘s obviously working or they wouldn’t be employed or using that rhetoric.

Just sayin'! You said he was just a punter, like he was some kind of limp dick pussy. Legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri played in the league 25 years almost, McAfee's career got shortened to a respectable 8 years after knee problems. Despite the shorter career Pat had nearly twice as many solo tackles as Vinatieri. He didn't avoid hits like a lot of specialists. Not just punter, he did kickoffs and was Emergency QB. Pretty good athlete.

That said, he's got the ESPN gig going on, and does WWE too. He's been making Gameday appearances. Obviously he's entertaining and people want to hear what he has to say, otherwise he wouldn't be getting these gigs. Seems like most of the people that took issue with what Pat said are the people that weren't watching his content to begin with.
Being a former player makes pundits more credible to you. That's fine. I don't subscribe to that. Which is precisely why I don't consume this guy's content, however many tackles he makes or flares he shoots up into the air trying to get more attention.

He has the masses. That's not me.

Here's my issue with the cheap shots against Clark: where are her teammates? How the hell do you let a teammate, especially a star, get beaten up and not retaliate and defend her? Can you imagine Larry, Magic, Isiah, Michael or Stockton getting cheap shotted like that and Parish or Rambis or Laimbeer or Oakley or Malone not throat chopping that person into oblivion or clotheslining them or taking out a nose or a few teeth with an elbow? You DO NOT let anyone beat on your teammate like that without consequences.

HOF guard Nancy Lieberman told the "Run It Back" podcast on Wednesday that she would've "punched (Carter) in the face" and told her to "f--k off."

"That would actually cure the problem because I've known Chennedy since she was in high school here in Dallas. She's a tough kid, she's a really good basketball player, she's gonna come after you because she's very physical, which is ok. But damn, where's Caitlin Clark's teammates?" "Lady Magic" asked. "I'd be pissed as s--t at my teammates if nobody came to my defense."

Lieberman pointed to Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky having an "enforcer" during his career and Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan having Charles Oakley during his early days with the Chicago Bulls.

"Honestly, this is bulls--t," the former point guard said. "Indiana has to be better. Somebody has to come to this kid's, I don't want to say rescue."

Not even an established superstar. There would have been a brawl if that happened to someone like Wemby.

Back in the early 70s, Wilbur Jackson was Bama's first black scholarship football player. He said he never really had any issues, but there was one star lineman who never did anything to him, but made it clear he didn't want him there. However, Jackson said that in a game against Tennessee, a UT defensive player called him a slur and tried to stomp on him while he was on the ground. The lineman who didn't want Jackson on the team came flying in like a raging bull and leveled the UT player then stood over him screaming that he'd take both his knees out if he ever did that again. Jackson said that the guy didn't have to like him, but he sure as hell had his back as a teammate. It's gotta be like that. You DO NOT let anyone mess with your teammates.

They talk about that in the video above with Kornheiser and Wilborn. It's odd that her teammates don't have her back, but Chennedy cheap shots her and her teammates are off the bench celebrating? Something wrong there.

From former Fever star Tamika Catchings

Learning to play as a team

The Fever players’ relative unfamiliarity with each other also might be the reason the “enforcer” that social media so desperately wants Indiana to have to protect Clark has yet to materialize, Catchings said.

“I’m on the outside looking in, but I would just say this: There have been injuries and very few practices and they are still trying to learn with each other and they are still trying to learn how to play for each other so when you talk about an enforcer, you enforce because you’re a team and you know and understand how to protect each other. None of this happens without a team effort. I think they’re still trying to get to that point.”

The basketball element of this is probably best served for a basketball thread. How the media is covering Caitlin Clark, how she's being used, is the issue at hand. The WNBA has to ride this window for as long as it stays open. Of course they're going to try and prop her up. She makes them money. Cardoso and Reese have both landed in Chicago as rookies. Big market. Of course they're going to try and angle everything as best they can to gain attention to them, and make more money.

Now a congressman from Indiana has weighed in on the Fever-Sky foul issue. Yes, it was a cheap shot. Everyone gets that. This is not an issue of FEDERAL GOVERNANCE, however.

CC is going to be a pawn for people whether she likes it or not. There isn't anything she can do to prevent or respond to this kind of thing.

Barnes is 100% correct. Her teammates need to step up. Her coach needs to chew some ass and tell them, "You let that **** happen again and don't make somebody pay DEARLY, you'll sit on the bench and I'll find some people who DO want to play as a team."

11 games into her pro career. Utterly ridiculous.

It's 3 Technical Fouls, clickbait title. It's 1 more than Angel Reese, and Caitlin plays more minutes than Reese. Reese is right there with her in personal fouls too, 32 to 29. It can happen when you're on the floor a lot. You know who led the league in technicals in 2022? Our own Skylar Diggins-Smith. Ogunbowale was 5th that year. Marina Mabrey was 7th. Was an odd year frankly for former Irish women, I didn't see any of them in the Top 10 in the last 5 seasons other than that 2022 year.

I can't read the Athletic, so I can't comment about their debate, but just based on the Tweet it seems click-baitey. She's 10 games into her Rookie year and she just played a grueling season of college leading up to this. Seems a bit early to determine if she's just hype or not. It's odd that they'd focus on her technicals too when there's been a clear message sent that she's been more on the receiving end. The Fever have sent the League a number of fouls against her for review already, not just the Carter cheap shot. The media has already commented about the treatment she's received up to this point, and it extends beyond simple Rookie hazing.

I was just watching a video where a guy was talking about this. Her teammates have to protect her, absolutely. If the opposing teams are smart they'll stay competitive, but 100% should avoid trying to injure her. She's helping them all eat right now, don't kill the cash cow by putting her on the bench.

First few minutes here, they show some of the other fouls Clark was getting in that Sky game too:

Totally true, but, as Barkley said, they're being petty and jealous. They'd rather hate on her for being a rookie, white, straight, and mostly for getting all the attention, than reap the benefits of what she's doing for the league. They've gotten more press & viewers in the past month with her than in the past 5 years without her. Just a bunch of petty short-sighted bitches.

The more I check-in on this story, the more impressed I become with CC. Especially after her tough games, when she maintains that balanced, professional demeanor. It’s really too bad the so many in the WNBA have become catty little girls about CCs presence. This was the WNBAs opportunity to shine, and they have absolutely shit the bed.

Darn

Dude loudly knows nothing about college football. Peace.
Evidently Herbstreit gave an ultimatum that if McAfee doesn't come back, he's not coming back either.

I say call his bluff and hope Desmond goes with them. The entire cast needs an overhaul because it's basically a Jerry Springer episode every Saturday morning. And it typing that, I can fully grasp why that resonates with a large audience.

I like Herbstreit, but I honestly like him better when he's doing live games than what he currently brings to Game Day.

I always thought that Les Miles would make an entertaining gameday host. Someone like Saban would get paid BIG TIME by ESPN if their gameday team walked out.

He at least provides "something" different, I think I'm completely burnt out on having QB4 on the practice squad give "they just need to want it more" type analysis. Everyone seems to be chasing the TNT Shaq style show

***I say this while being an arrogant prick who thinks every commentator is dumb as dog shit. At least having McAfee ruffles feathers of the crypt keeper ass commentators.

I agree their format is stale. I just don’t enjoy MacAfee’s brand entertaining at all. I find him especially annoying when it’s clear he has no idea what he’s talking about.

I haven't watched Game Day in years and only watch ESPN for CFB. Come to think of it, I don't watch any pregame shows. Nothing they say is going to effect the game.

Really? I'd rather listen to him than some of the old crap the other talking heads put out. I dont' care much what Reece, Desmond, or the rest think about various topics. Pat did a great segment with the ND Lacrosse team last year on GameDay, gave them big props for winning the first championship and put our guys to the test on camera (We passed). The fake Lou interviewing real Lou was good too, real Lou handled it very well. I think he celebrates the pageantry and tradition that comes with college football, but he adds some entertainment to liven things up.

I am sure CNN is going to do a great job providing a fairly and honestly moderated debate!

I will not be surprised in the slightest if the CNN team cuts away from Joe Biden in real time if he starts dozing off on stage or looking old and confused.
