Everybody's favorite boogeyman.

The Citizens United decision in 2014 on campaign financing opened the door to special groups pouring money like Soros into politics. The amount of money that poured into the midterms was obscene. Each side has its favorite boogeyman. I don't know how many times I heard "Pelosi" and "Trump" mentioned in ads.

There's a good article in the NY Times about how the right wing government now in power in Hungary has driven a university started by Soros out of the country. Soros was born in Hungary. Will we as a country ever get to that point where a controlling party targets and drives out university?

Obviously, both can be considered free speech issues entangled in the toxic slurry of politics today that polarizes and demonizes.

The NYT article is a typical lib supporting lib puff piece. Let's not forget Soros's long history with Hungary and his attempts to fight the Fidesz–KDNP alliance that is on it's second term. The university is known as Lib U, and Soros U. Soros bankrolls the place in an attempt to spread his bread of politics. How people don't see that as dangerous is beyond me.

Soros's foundation (which is also a vehicle to spread his politics) is also moving out of Budapest. To act like Soros is an innocent (like so many left sources) is pretty funny. He's not an elected official, but feels it's his job to shape politics in Hungary, and really the entire globe. Hungary is just unwilling to play his game.

Hungary is not an authoritarian gov. But many on the left want to describe it that way only because the right has firmly defeated the left in the last decade in elections. Truth is, the socialist Unity Coalition ran the country into the ground, and after the Hungarian economic meltdown in 2008ish, the people went right. They went Trump before Merica did.

But back to CEU. Anyone who believes they are a non-partisan educational institution is naive. I don't see it as a country kicking out an educational institution. I see it as a country saying, "your thinly veiled attempt to influence politics is unwelcome". And technically, they weren't kicked out. They were asked to comply with both old and new laws. Instead of complying, they decided to move. But absolutely Orban went after them. And Hungary isn't the only country in Europe were Soros, and his political institutions are not welcome..

I think it was a waste of money. I'd be skeptical of any of these weird schools.

The media/journalism have a weird martyrdom complex going on. I still can't be bothered to really care that the guy is dead. That whole situation is still creepy as all heck.

The media (both sides) cherry picking is a way of life. You can go to El Paso, San Diego, or really any border town (any town for that matters) and find someone to say what you want to hear. Truth is, there are a lot of Hispanics that are pro wall. Especially older ones. And especially the large population working as border security. The left has done a great job at playing identity politics with the rest, especially the young.
