Pyne "moving pretty well in the pocket" looked like a chicken with it's head cut off.
1. Hire a QB coach (Herman) and allow him to call the plays and take over next year as full OC.
2. Start all the underclassman and save face by calling it a rebuilding year.
3. Start paying recruits to try and save this class.
Literally none of those things are gonna happen.

It’s a bad loss, but it’s weird to be embarrassed about something you didn’t have any control over. It sucked, we move on. Something like this can either be galvanizing or damning. If MFMF is any more than a mouth piece, it’ll be the former. I’m super intrigued to see what changes for next week.
I do have control over who I support, and it's not embarrassing when it comes to being a fan of ND and losing to Marshall. Not only losing but being outplayed by Marshall. I didn't see Randy Moss out there, so I was surprised that ND played like Marshall and Marshall played how I expected ND to play.

I am embarrassed because this is pitiful!

Right that’s why Kelly left because he knew this team had huge holes and was going to struggle. It had zero to do with the large amount of money offered to him and it was 100% him abandoning ship.

Let me ask you all this question. If Brian Kelly was still the coach of Notre Dame would they have lost this game today?
No fan way. Plus if Kelly thought he had holes he would have gone into the portal like he did with Coan and filled them. MF is. Nice guy but how do we know he’s nothing more than a defensive version on Tommy who was propped up by Luke Fickle the way Kelly propped up Rees? That’s what it is looking like to me. Rewind and imagine that we hired Luke. We are a far better team. Btw what happened to Balis making our lineman stronger and faster? They look fat and slow and soft. Don’t forget Balis was a key keeper……or so we were told.

No thanks to Pyne.

Dude was absolutely putrid when given the chance and his pocket movement means f*ck all if he's still throwing picks and his accuracy is all over the place.

It's Angeli time.
He scored only 1 less TD than Buchner despite getting just 2 series. If that's putrid, I wouldn't comment on Buchner....and I won't comment on Buchner's accuracy either.

Yep, Pyne got beat out pretty quick by Buchner, whereas Angeli probably just got beat out by virtue of being a freshman and so not given a chance. Angeli will not know the plays but neither do the WRs so that equals out.

Pyne was absolutely atrocious. Worst qb I've ever seen in an ND uniform. If Buchner can't go it's either Angeli or a 4-8 season.

Yeah he has another awful pick bc hes a midget and looks like a High school freshman. can't throw the the ball or see over the line. No thanks
He's an inch shorter than Baker Mayfield. I'm not saying I don't prefer taller quarterbacks, but your argument is invalid.

I mean maybe not Randy Moss, but Laborn was the number one RB recruit in the country a few years ago…

The entire offense today was literally Buchner. Once Tommy started calling plays that fit his strengths - read option, play action, roll outs - the offense actually moves the ball.

What offense do you even run with Pyne or Angeli? You aren’t running the ball traditionally because the defense doesn’t have to respect the QB run. Defenses already don’t respect our receiving core so you aren’t going to be able to drop back and pass with ease.

Buchner creates another dimension that actually gives the offense upside at this point. Yeah those deep shots have to be hit and if those are, then we’re actually cooking with something.

It’s not really HH’s offensive line, those aren’t his recruits.
No, they are his players now. Just like usc coaches now have their players.

You shouldn't have to wait to get your players to play well. Hiestand is very overrated who was able to get 3 great prospects drafted high. His units are average. Tennessee ran him off and the Bears fired him.

He is not suited to coach in today's game at the the highest level. The days of 33 Trucking and Stanford power football are over and this university better figure that out.

Yup. I think this will be like 2007 where they rotated between Clausen & Sharpley based on situation but tried to prep Clausen for the following season. If Buchner is healthy which I doubt he will be vs Cal, he likely gives them the best chance to win. I’m assuming Angeli is no more of a run threat than Pyne.

Merriweather was never injured and that’s coming from a very very reliable source
If he's not, then at this point we absolutely need to start getting him reps. Lenzy's 1 catch for 5 yards does nothing for this offense, he's just occupying a single corner at this point and no team fears him.

Obviously, but he's making the point that Pyne is too short. Pretty bogus, Baker threw for 14,000 yards in college and they're basically the same height. The height argument is invalid.
Right but the talent argument is not. He’s a great kid & locker room guy but if you lack ideal height, you must be dynamic in additional ways. If Pyne is, I have yet to see it. I admit I’m no scout but watching pretty much every P5 team on tv today, ND doesn’t have a QB that would unseat any of them.

How about his pick that thankfully there was penalty on. He's five foot nothing. A hundred and nothing. You want to roll out a kid who has the stature of a high school Sophomore? It doesn't really matter because our Oline sucks. Our running backs aren't explosive, our Wide receivers suck outside of Styles. This offense literally has no hope. Absolutely none.

It don’t matter whose at WR tho if the OL and RB’s can’t block and give TB enough time for them to get open the passing game will suck

Pyne put together a drive on his own, roughly half a field. Entire offense is streteching in when the other guy scores just 2 TDs on Marshall and the other scores 1 TD. I don't blame TB though, you can't evaluate these guys when they're getting hit shortly after the snap and getting pressure in their face up the middle. This other dimension you speak of is fantasy if we're not moving the ball consistently.

Good point. At least Buchner is over 6 feet tall yet he still has to make almost every pass w/ a defender in his face b/c the OL is trash.

Yeah, I mean...he just lost to FSU with LSU. He's not a wizard. We need a wizard.
We don't have a wizard, ace....

Kelly wouldn't have lost to Marshall.

Methinks Freeman is TOO NICE AND TOO GREEN to whip these kids into nastiness. Give me back old purple face.

BTW, looks like LSU is 51-0 AT THE HALF.

What a shitshow. Again, you get a Coach with zero track record, its a crap shoot. LSU paid $100MM for Kelly's track record. They may not win titles and they may fire Kelly but it wasn't hiring some nice, charasmatic assistant that eveyone loved that had zero track record.

I am into sure things - Gordon Gekko.

I made the best decision I’ve ever made today with my wife and senior son. I went and watched Youngstown State curb stomp Dayton. Saw some good football. Not even gonna watch the replay.
Good for you. But be honest…you assumed ND would take care of Marshall and you could enjoy the replay at your leisure after you enjoyed some live football w/ your loved ones.

In short, the powers that be at ND listened to the threats, feelings, and perspectives of 18-22 yr/olds instead of following a solid search process for a new head coach and team of coaches. All the talk was, the players wanted Freeman. The Tommy talk was similar.

It seems from the outside looking in that we hired Freeman and Tommy because that's what the players wanted and if we didn't there would have been some type of revolt or mass exodus. Well, now look what pot of crap we're sitting in.

I had serious concerns after the bowl game. Serious concerns. Freeman looked way over his head. He still does. While we may not be able to pinpoint all that is broken, it seems clear, MANY things are broken. And I just don't think that can be chalked up to Kelly's departure or players who exited after the 2021 season. This level of "stink" seems to be squarely on the shoulders of the current coaching staff.
Well at least it made Hamilton happy who then decided to sit out our bowl game which was probably the difference between MFs first win or first loss. All well intended but as they say “The road to hell is paved with good intentions and shitty coaches”
