One thing I'd add here; make sure you actually go INSIDE the Basilica, whether or not you're religious, anyone would appreciate the architecture. It's beautiful. The Ushers will make sure you take off your hat at the door but otherwise you're free to walk around and take photos and such.
If Catholic, take in a pregame Mass.

Welcome to IE. Another option for parking is just south and SE of the stadium. Usually around $30 to park and we never have a problem getting out after the game. If you park there, you'll be right in the middle of the tailgating. I would hit the Bookstore Friday night, because on game day before and after the game it is always packed. If you wear Marshall gear, you will probably be invited to join a number of tailgates. ND fans are the best when it comes to getting along with the opposition.
Yeah I would second this. I haven't tailgated in that area, but I have seen lots of full tailgates over there.

Also, IDK about the free campus parking on Friday. Last time I went all of those lots had parking gates. Its probably better just to go to the bookstore lot.

And for all ND fans going, it looks like there are some different events this year. Maybe the biggest is that the player walk is being renamed the Victory March and will include a speech from Freeman at the reflecting pool.
